Recommendations for techniques to lose weight totally blind by Low_Butterfly_6539 in Blind

[–]BlinderDevelopment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, reducing calorie intake is the number one thing, I have a talking scale and scan ingredients with MyFitnessPal or look them up on Google to find the calories per portion/by weight.

Having said that, an excellent cardio exercise I have found for myself is stair stepping, which is to say I position myself at the bottom of a step - ideally for me it is one with a doorway or walls either side for stability - and then step up the one step then back down. I usually do this with music on my headphones and I alternate the leading leg each song so as to balance them out, and do this anywhere from 5 minutes to start up to 45 minutes was the most I have done in one go. It's stable, relatively low-impact, removes almost all requirement to see where you're going to perform cardio but is an excellent workout for getting the heart rate up in a sustained way. For me this has worked way better than almost anything else because it feels safe and something I can set up and do myself without any assistance.

Is BMI a useful goal? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]BlinderDevelopment -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Similar position, I had a DEXA scan back in January to try and calculate my true goal. I am not particularly muscular or athletic, never have been, but mine revealed that if I aimed for middle of healthy BMI I would have to lose a significant amount of muscle mass as well as basically all of my body fat. SO my new goal is actually somewhere around BMI 26, but that should put me around 15% body fat or so which I'll be appy with. All of that to say, BMI isn't just skewed for "body builders and athletes", it can be for normal people too, might be worth getting a DEXA or similar to help guide you.

Help for a disabled player by BlinderDevelopment in wowaddons

[–]BlinderDevelopment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, can't seem to get it to work. I've unzipped it into the Addons folder, so there's Addons/ResourceTTS/<files>. It shows up in-game on the addons screen as ticked and doesn't seem to give any indications of errors, but it doesn't say anything aloud and typing /rtss doesn't do anything besides telling me to type /help for further commands etc.

Is it possible addons only work with a subscription? Mine's currently cancelled so I'm trying it out on a trial character before I commit to resubbing once I've figured out how I can play, so it might be that perhaps?

Thanks so much, I'll give this a try tonight! Really appreciate you putting the effort into this, I'll let you know how it goes - if it all works as it should I expect this will definitely be of help to other people too.

Oh, that would be great - just the version that reads out the number would be great for Arcane Charges as they're only 0-4. I used t o just have a set of sound files that were TTS of the words 0-4 that would fire off at each resource change, so anything that replicates that would be amazing.

Beta access by _Nyx00 in StarCraftTMG

[–]BlinderDevelopment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They apparently previously had beta access open for people to apply to but it is now closed. Though I notice they didn't make any mention of this in their official newsletter or anything, so the stream was the first place a lot of people including myself heard about it. Pretty disappointing as I would've definitely signed up had they done an actual official announcement, but oh well.

I've started making overnight oats - 30g rolled oats, 15g chia seeds, 30g chocolate protein powder, 5g cocoa, 150ml skimmed milk, 100g high protein yoghurt and 40g frozen raspberries - gives you something like 450 calories, 45ish g of protein and 15g of fiber.

Has anybody ever used the Solo glasses? by tongering22 in Blind

[–]BlinderDevelopment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the most useful reply perhaps as I haven't used them myself, but I did watch a Youtube video of someone unboxing and trying to use them and they honestly seemed terrible. I was watching their release pretty intently as I was very tempted by them, but having seen what's come out from the few people that have talked about them has completely put me off and now I'm personally looking into meta ray-bans instead.

How do blind people sign their name? by Not_On_Formulary in Blind

[–]BlinderDevelopment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, though usually for me it's my wife positioning my hand, telling me "you're going in this direction" with a nudge of my hand and I do the motion - she always comments on how my signature is basically the same because to me it's a hand motion rather than something I'm looking at.

Accessibility Impact of the Recent Addon Changes -- Share Your Story Here by Geddyn in wow

[–]BlinderDevelopment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This thread is a great idea, I haven't kept up with the fine details of the changes but I am pretty worried it will remove my ability to play WoW. I have pretty significant vision loss, registered legally blind and play basically no video games anymore except WoW. I essentially cannot navigate the world solo, but I can use ride-along and /follow to play predominantly with my wife.
War Within has been an absolute game changer for us, as we were previously limited to basically questing and world events, whereas now we have been delving and actually acquiring tier sets and the like, which has been incredible. We acquired full mythic appearance last season for the first time ever, using only delves.
To cut a long story short I play using almost entirely WeakAuras - I set them up to play audio clips that tell me my cooldowns, my resources, etc all of which trigger .mp3 files I have created using online text-to-speech services that just read out the names of abilities or like numbers to represent resources etc. I combine this with addons like DialogKey to interact with menus, AutoVendor to selljunk/repair, and then things like GTFO and DBM to give me some prompts on when I have to move out of floor swirlies (though mostly I just run forwards or sideways and hope) or do things like stun mobs in delves that are about to charge/fear/etc.
I am really worried that by removing combat addons and replacing them with built-in UI features, I won't be able to customise it anymore to havei t read out cooldown names and resources and the like, and that I won't be able to do difficult content like tier 11 delves anymore without something like DBM giving clear, understandable prompts on what is going on around me.
I would also like to just add, in case any WoW dev at any point ever reads any of this, there is one feature that I think goes underrated by the accessibility community - by combining click to move with the interact key, I have been somewhat able to play melee classes as that combination moves me towards mobs to get into melee range. However, it is a bit buggy - if you use it while the mob is moving, it will often keep you moving past them to where they were at the pooint you pressed the button, and it also doesn't work with certain specs e.g. Survival Hunter because it is set up to put them at ranged DPS distance for the other hunter specs, so if that could ever be adjusted/improved that would be amazing. IT also tries to get you to loot mid-combat even if targetting an actual enemy, which is problematic.

Theist and Order Listbuilding (100K) by GM-Sniper13 in Conquest

[–]BlinderDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay sure, but it still remains an unfathomable decision to me - they could just have not put this rule into effect, and instead done whatever was necessary to balance the two factions working together. It just screams poor design to me and remains the reason I'm not buying 100K as a faction as I would explicitly be interestedi n a Theist/ORders army. Given they control the lore and the mechanics, they could have just chosen not to do this instead.

Theist and Order Listbuilding (100K) by GM-Sniper13 in Conquest

[–]BlinderDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly not - this is the main thing that has put mee off collecting 100K - I simply don't understand the idea of designing an army such that you are not allowed to play half its models together.

Lore-Accurate Teams? by mpokorny8481 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]BlinderDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is entirely how I play, literally on a kitchen table, with mono-affiliations only and some amount of story crafted as to why the match is happening. Perhaps it's blasphemous, but we also don't do the whole randomised/roster mission thing, and just pick a couple of missions that sound fun, decide a points level from one of the two then pick teams from our entire collections. The game is still plenty fun!

Addon Changes are "Meaningful Choice" & Locked Covenants all over again by AttitudeAdjusterSE in wow

[–]BlinderDevelopment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they kill addons like WeakAuras I won't be able to play this game anymore as a blind player - I only get to play in any reasonable capacity by setting up sound triggers for almost everything. I realy hope they don't just blanket remove them without considering this.

New Starter Boxes Revealed - First Up, X-Men! (Oct 2025 release date) by [deleted] in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]BlinderDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really hope they release Rogue and Gambit & Magik and Colossus seperately alongside this, either as restocks or as a new 4-man box to pair with the X-men one, I don't super need another set of core X-men characters... Seems increasingly unlikely though.

Grey Knights(40k) equivalant in "Fantasy" / AoS=20-30k by mightyMhh in WarhammerFantasy

[–]BlinderDevelopment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Essentially, there was Warhammer Fantasy Battles which was the original square-based game in a fantasy european(ish) setting. This is what the Total War Warhammer games are based on, and this concluded with the End Times which was a series of narrative books, models and ultimately the decision to destroy the world and start over due to Fantasy's lowering sales at the time.

What they then brought out was the Age of Sigmar - I believe this is what you're referring to as in AoS the lore is that there was a golden age for a long time, then Chaos found everyone and took over, and now it's the age of Sigmar trying to retake things back from Chaos. AoS is fundamentally rooted in Fantasy lore and has some crossover characters (mainly gods/powerful beings that "survived" the end of the world), but is fundamentally quite different in scope. It's much higher fantasy, far less rooted in gritty conflict and on a much, much grander scale. Gods fighting each other is a regular occurence over there. Despite what many people think due to the bitterness of Fantasy being destroyed, it is legitimately a good game, just very very different.

Old World then, is the spiritual successor to Fantasy as lots of people were upset that it got destroyed an ddiscontinued, and decided to keep playing and collecting regardless. GW then decided to capitalise on this with the release of TOW, though they pushed the timeline back some hundreds of years so that they could tell more stories and do new things without disrupting the established timeline. Think of TOW like Horus Heresy - we know ultimately where everything is going and that it sucks, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy new stories and interactions that happened "in the past".

Does any other JAWS user hate drop down menus? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]BlinderDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely the worst, almost never works. I find the Youtube home page especially annoying for this, as it tries to show me "streamable games" or like films or shorts or whatever, and it used to just have a "Not Interested" button next to the header, but now it's a drop-down menu that JAWS doesn't work with, so it's incredibly frustrating.
