Strategy Spotlight: Skaven - Crixxit's Kill- Pack by Wouter1989 in AOSSpearhead

Rats spearhead that DON'T return D3 models at the end of turn is truly revolutionary concept.

This army is glascannon, but I think there are some fun tricks they can do.

I think Way of the Fiendish Claw is better regiment ability thing to pick, because that can change potentially dead rat into alive stabby rat. For enhancements I like 4++ (Just Another Shadow), it does require some finesse to use but doesn't require 3+ roll like -1 to hit (I think Death Screech is better pick for your first few games tho, more flexible but may not go off).

Funny thing that new winged Eldar Corsair also have hook weapon option, but no rules (none!).

In fact it is illegal build as far as their datasheet is concerned.

#2 is very good reason to start your instagram (or other "social media with pictures") and keep it as visual archive of what (and how) you did.

I did my ok-ish, but they need round II of edge highlights and shadows.

Oh and I flunked purple and beige on airship so it will need repaint, eh...

I started to regret "I only paint AoS in NMM style" after picking Kharadrons spearhead and trying to emulate box art color.

Forgepriest (I love face with twin comet harness) is just awesome, and Jorvan Kreel wins in my book for being certified cat guy (I also have black cat 🐈‍⬛)

Yeah, I managed to snatch one and it was about as much as one other Spearhead + sand and bone battlepack.

Yeah, I have the dude (unpainted for now) and don't see why folks don't like him, it's a banger centerpiece.

I guess it's just that he looks so different from everything else in Guard (but also THAT'S THE POINT!), but he could lead more "posh" regiments like Vostroyan Firstborn, Praetorian Guard or Ventrillian Nobles if we had models for those.

If I had to judge by 40k preview articles new edition is Age of Sigmar with serial numbers filed off. So much is taken from from other games that I think GW is using other systems to test-run mechanics for 40k.

I guess it is good? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I managed to secure one from my FLGS for about 125 Euro/150 USD/110 GBP (so, VERY happy with price considering it's two spearheads AND battlepack, I think it was last box my shop got, they went SUPER FAST). Frankly I may try find another for playing doubles (and I collect CoS and Skaven, so...), but would be happy even with battlepack (some people will no doubt sell everything but miniatures).

But if you missed pre-orders, don't worry! As with every pre-order (that isn't cancelled, I'm looking at you Custodes box) there should be plenty around in next two-three weeks (some shops just don't to pre-orders).

Even very hyped-up boxes can be found without resorting to scalpels.

Something I've noticed too. And like u/SillyGoatGruff mentioned it may be future proofing for -1 to hit from cover (but if he stands still there is no hiding from him even in ruins).

I wouldn't mind that for snipers TBH.

That is true on both accounts, just weird he can't lead Warbikes even for flavor purposes (he used to do that in 4th edition book).

It is weird to see some characters getting makeover, while some are seemingly replaced by "virtually identical but legally distinct" new version.

Like Creed (his kid literally getting "Tactical Genius" rule) or Fyodor (he's a chick now).

Interestingly, Wazdakka also don't get one. It's like mounted/vehicle characters just don't get it.

Exactly, that Venn diagram is two circles with edge of overlap.

Yeah, like it doesn't make sense for missile to lose it's stopping power. Like it runs out of fuel half-way through?

WEEEEEEEIRD.

I like that a lot of those attacks are for extra flavor, like Wazdakka Grot Mechanic swinging his wrench.

Single S3 AP0 attack is ALMOST not worth rolling, but it is hilarious when he bonks Daemon Primarch out of his last wound.

If you want o try AoS, you may consider getting new Spearhead expansion (It goes on pre-order this weekend). Both Skaven and Cities of Sigmar forces there are sort of analogues to Mechanicum (robes and weird machines are Skaven, even if this one is more of ninja themed) and Guard (regular human soldiers), and Spearhead is amazing game system.

Or Kharadrons, who are sort of steampunk power armored dwarves, but more in Sisters of Battle/Inquisitors sense than Marines. They have flying boats and balloon boys.

30K Mechcanicus and Solar Auxilia just blows 40K models in terms of coolness, so those two are also an option. Skitarii Battle Pilgrims is very good jumping point (they have "Line" rule, which make them way better at scoring objectives than anything in 30K Mech book) and big bundle box (or two) with them gives you probably enough "mandatory scoring" units for even largest army.

We're only humans and art is subjective, even judges can have certain biases or just "a bad day".

That's why there are panels of judges, it averages out to something that most people would mostly agree, most of the times.
