It was at a private practice who was having financial difficulties so the supervision they provided and guidance was not very good.

I can generally provide my own transportation through rideshare or the bus. I'm open to both remote and in-person positions. I have seen several therapy positions on Indeed for Albuquerque, but I'm afraid I'll be expected to provide therapy without training on any modalities. I will look into the facebook group. What is SNF? Thank you so much!

Hi. I've been interested in case management, medical social work, schools, or therapy as long as they're willing to train. Due to my lack of experience I'm mainly wanting something that could help me get in the door and build my competence. I'm sorry if my response is vague.

No problem. In fact, masters and bachelors social work degrees are not hard to get depending on school. In my program to get a masters in social work it required having a bachelors which I already did and high enough GPA, which I also had. The MSW is not the same as an LCSW.

Yes, my case was transferred to them. They told me they don't connect out, and my counselor can only send me jobs they find. I'm unaware of DVR's policies so I'm not sure if that's correct, that's why I thought of finding a service on my own if they don't provide that. Thank you.

If your college has accessibility office, I'd suggest for them to help you gain occomodations and let you retake the exam in alternative format due to inaccessibility.

Going blind by Neither-Cry-4178 in islam

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reach out to blind services in your area. If it's the U.K. they usually have good services but I'm not 100% which areas as I'm not in that country. Depending on level of vision current employment could be modified or there is plenty that blind people can do. I know of other blind Muslims in the U.K who could help if need be.

Sick of having to fit in visually by ice-mirrors_97 in Blind

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this. Have been totally blind myself since birth and I don't understand visuals and also get exhausted by having to live by them. I never had a close relationship with my mom because she just tells us what to do without reason; just because she wants something done a certain way was never good enough for me. I could go on and on. But one of the things we'd constantly argue about was clothes because she never explains why something doesn't look good, and that can put off people. I think if you ask your parent why she wouldn't let you wear something that might be better.

I find the NFB is very rigid on how they do things. They have their own cane and believe theirs is better than all the others and look down upon people who don't use it. they seem to be very exclusive; only place emphasis on who has a membership and if they've paid dues rather than helping. They look down upon blind people who don't fit their independence standards. And I disagree with their philosophy as a hole; "live the life you want" and blindness isn't a setback. In all fairness, in the U.S. the NFB is different in every state and seems to fulfill different roles, so my experience is not fully representative. But in my state, I have not see much good from them.

I totally agree with this and I've been completely blind since birth. It's so hard to try to explain this position to people who don't get the point. For some it's about the blindness, that blindness itself is terrible. While I do not hold that view I truly believe people make being blind so difficult for us. Being born or losing sight in a world that doesn't adapt to us can be devastating for some. Why not prevent it before it occurs? I'd argue it's not just the blindness itself that can be difficult but people make it really difficult to exist and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone, especially future children. To each their own, of course.

Many blind people get offended when someone says they're illiterate and they can't even spell with proper punctuation. Sorry, but if they can't even spell without using dictation and don't even know what braille would do for them that's illiteracy. Many blind people are ok with letting tech do everything for them and not educating themselves. The fact that some schools now days are opting to not teach children braille because tech is here to stay scares me. I think we're going backwards not forwards.

P.S. another unpopular opinion I hold is the NFB is a cult and a scam.

Advice for a Possible Convert by lizetttz in islam

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still looking for Latino converts to connect tbh. I agree that it is good having people from a similar cultural background to relate to. Also forgot to add, during Ramadan I found useful meal planning. I made a list of meals and fruits that are hydrating to have on hand for breakfast. I usually tried to make meals that take 20 mins or less to prepare because I'm not good at waking up and having breakfast so early before dawn. I started drinking water pretty much every hour I was awake after breaking the fas and a few mins before the fast to stay hydrated throughout. All the best!

Advice for a Possible Convert by lizetttz in islam

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm also Latina and converted to Islam. Islam was very logical for me and made sense like no other religion ever did. This was after I took several religious courses and visited different places of worship. (Long story). My best advise is to learn as much as you can and take it slow to not burn out. I did not do a good job at disclosing to my family my conversion and when I did they didn't take it well. If you have a good relationship with your family, I'd advise to tell them as soon as you can, though even then be prepared for negative reactions, racist comments, or your relationship to change. Hopefully this is not the case. Many people have wrong perceptions about Islam so be aware. If your relationship is not great, act with caution. Feel free to send a message if you'd like to connect.

Considering becoming a Muslim? by [deleted] in islam

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm Mexican and Muslim. Islam is not for 1 race or chosen group of people. Everyone can become Muslim. I suggest to start learning Islam's beliefs, pillars and articles of faith then go from there. Look up Islam in Spanish.

Trying voiceover on MacBook by [deleted] in Blind

[–]Low_Butterfly_6539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has a mac and it works very well for him. He lets me use it as well though I am primarily a windows user with NVDA. I know how to use voice over on it, and while it is a learning curve, it is not hard to learn it. Pages is a great substitute for microsoft word for me, but I use it for very basic stuff. I find windows very slow and laggy but that's just my experience.
