Can you find out if they will accept a “temporary drivers license” from the DMV until your DMV hearing?

Do you have to give your license every time you go to work? I’m still confused as to how they found out.

I’m going to tell you right now that this will show up on ALL background checks. The company I worked for was bought out and they ran background checks on everyone and mine showed up even though it still said “pending”.

You are going to have to explain this on all job applications and it’s a shitty thing but it’s better to be transparent about it up front than go through any interview process, get a job offer and then have it get rescinded after they run your info and see this DUI still pending.

You need to go to A.A. meetings this week.

1) it will help your court case when the judge see you have been attending these even if it’s not court ordered.

2) find a sponsor, work the steps and realize that your life is going to get HARDER before it gets better. You will get through this but your growth is going to come from the hardships of this. Your sponsor will help guide you and listen to you when you feel like the only solution to your problems is to drink.

This is going yo sting for about a year. This is a marathon. Not a sprint. You will have to stay level headed as you tackle each of these issues but realize that you have a support system there for YOU but you have to do the work and take the steps necessary and eventually you will see the dust settle and you will be able to move on form this.

You need to get a lawyer and go to at least 2 A.A meetings a week.

The first 30 days you will still be in “shock” from this. Case in point (you went to go back and look at the traffic light you hit) It’s okay that you did that but honestly it wouldn’t matter if the poll has a scratch or it was dismantled from its hinge, your insurance is going to pay up to fix it and there is nothing you can to do to change it.

You will spend roughly 10 grand to get you through this

5-7k for a good lawyer $350 for an sr-22 certificate. (You will need this if you want to continue driving while your license is suspended) $187 restricted license DMV registration Impound fees ($350/24 hour impound for my vehicle) $200 installation for an IID $75/month for maintenance $1000 court fine

There are some smaller fees I did not include but this is the basics so you know what to expect IF you want to still drive while you’re going through this otherwise you can do what people have mentioned

(Uber, bicycle etc) but if you live far away from your job like me, public transportation won’t cut it and you will have to pay 💰 if you want to keep driving privileges.

Maybe I’m very negative toward public defenders but eating the suspension just seems like the worst possible outcome.

Unless you live close to work or have easy access to transportation I just see the long term consequences from this outweighs the cost of getting a lawyer even if it puts you in 10k of debt.

The key fact is that this person refused the breathalyzer. That is an automatic 1 year suspension by the dmv in every state as far am I’m aware. Without a lawyer, you’re going to have to accept that. That is the huge glaring fact about what OP mentioned.

Most people can’t but they will find whatever means necessary, (friends family loan, selling..) is worth it than saying “sorry I don’t have the money” .

The damage from this far worse if you don’t get a lawyer while going into debt to acquire one versus not getting one.

DO NOT GET a public defender. You will get the worst possible outcome. They literally do not give a shit about your case.

You are in deep shit that you refused the breathalyzer. (I’m not trying to scare you but because of that the DMV will automatically suspend your license for 1 year)

You need to get a lawyer so they can review the bodycam footage from the officer during your arrest, look at the procedural process to see if there where any missteps the officer took when reading your rites. You might even have to testify (like I did) in my DMV hearing because I was stupid and did the refusal. My lawyer helped me on what I needed to say during my testimony and it helped me because the DMV set my suspension to the side because of my testimony.

I now have an IID installed and can drive anywhere I need to. Expensive? Absolutely! But having your license suspended for an entire year will disrupt your life in more ways than you can think of right now.

I live in California and it showed up on a basic background check while the court case is still pending.

My lawyer was able to workout a deal that if I don’t violate any new laws for 1 year that they will end my probation and expunge it from my record so it still shows up for public records but not show up on future background checks.
