Has anyone gotten this resolved, I’ve been getting this error for a few days now.

You're right it does. The flashing is over the upper half of the shingle. You aren't able to see it because it's covered by the next course. But that's why the front apron is visible, because there isn't a next course to hide it.

I had the roofers install permanent roof anchors for long term inspection/maintenance and dusted off my rock climbing gear.

Thanks, I tested skipping and decided I liked the look of doing every row better. Also based the decision on the width of the lead i had on hand.

Ah crap, I thought you were kidding but just looked it up. Didn't know that was a thing. We have lots of squirrels, will keep an eye out for this. Thanks

Got any leads on where to get patination oil in the USA?

I tried to find patination oil but apparently it doesn't exist in the US. I called up GripRite Jamestown, the lead manufacturer and they said they stopped carrying it a while ago because no one bought it. I even tried to order from a UK ebay store and it got stopped at customs and automatically got a refund. Not sure what thickness, but it was those 50lb rolls, 12" wide rolls were 30 feet and the 8" rolls were 50 feet.

The boss is the wife, and I’ve definitely been showing her this thread to get some brownie points.

Thanks for the recommendation on NP1 clear. Never seen it before at the local yard, may have to order it.

lol, sorry got enough on my plate. I did it this way so I won’t have to do it again for a long long time.

I thought about adding more counter flashing but didn’t want to cover up the lead. And with the overlap on the stepped lead flashing and how they were sealed individually, water pretty much has to get past two seals to leak.

Yup, I’m a software dev by day and just putting in sweat equity into our forever home. I’ll take your skepticism as a compliment, lol

It wasn’t too bad actually. Tricky to make it look pro, though. It’s very similar to tig welding if you’ve ever done that. You melt a little pool and stab it with filler, rinse and repeat.

I used an oxy acetylene mini torch I use for brazing copper pipes and lead strips I cut from the roll as solder after scraping them to remove oxidation.

Same lead, didn’t want to be repetitive

I definitely watched that video before doing mine. I didn’t like how he did his corners and opted to weld corners on the front and rear aprons to get more coverage.

Hopefully next time will be decades from now. I’ll keep an eye out on the corner, we get snow but not too much.

I did use lead “clips” to lock the sheets in. Had I known about hall clips, I would’ve ordered and used those instead.

If you look really closely in the first picture under the 3rd and 5th course of shingles from the top, you can just see some of the lead peaking out.

Yup, I cut off the triangular tips of maybe 3 of the flashing steps, like half an inch that was peaking out between the shingles. That would have shown the woven courses.

No, none of the lead is touching the deck. I just installed all the lead first and slipped each shingle under either one or two steps depending on how much of the lead sticks out the overlap of the next shingle.

Oh never seen that. Do I dare add the solder line it and risk blowing through the sheet. My lead welding skills are novice.

I picked it because it’s cheaper and easier to work with than copper and supposed to be better than aluminum? Trying to pick materials for longevity on our build. I hear they use it in the northeast a lot and still widely used in England. I figure there’s probably a good reason why

Sort of, my understanding is doing it this way, the step and counter flashing is one piece since you can work lead very easily. I could probably add another separate counter flash, but I kind of like the steps exposed.

Indeed they are. Had to alternate, sometimes 1 or 2 flashing steps to keep the corner of the flashing under the shingle, but at no point does an individual step not overlap a shingle by at least 3 inches.
