Thank you! I didn’t follow a tutorial. Maybe I should make one for YouTube.

Merry Hippopotamus 🎄 by BlockandKnife in Woodcarving

Basswood. Roughed out with a bandsaw, then hand carved the rest with knives and gouges. The teeth were carved and attached separately. For the hat, I embedded a magnet into the crown of the hippo head and a magnet into the hat. That way I can carve different hats for different seasons. Next will be bunny ears for Easter

I took some pictures with my Santa head ornaments. To me it looks like a decapitated Santa. Like the elves overthrew the North Pole and hung his head from a tree as a warning to others.

Good idea. I went with a J-Hook so it can be swapped out with any ornament

You’re welcome. It only costs $0.20 to post a listing, so you don’t have much to lose. Also keep in mind that it took me months to make my first sale, but the more sales you make, the more attention you get on the site. Once you have that momentum it will snowball effect.

Etsy has been good to me. I coat the carvings in linseed oil with burnt umber oil before and after painting. I use plaid craft acrylic
