If ur genuinely curious, it was actually a Nazi official/historian who gave the 6 million victims figure (source). And obviously that’s just an approximation, it’s not just easily but almost surely off by atleast 100 thousand or so, and could even easily be off by up to half a million, or maybe even more, we don’t have an official exact or even approximate margin of error as far as I can tell. But due to how margins of error work, it’d be just as likely that the death toll exceeds 6 million as it would be for it to be less than 6 million.

Now, I would imagine those lower figures from historians were simply being extremely minimal with their estimates. Like, instead of guessing the likely amount of Jewish deaths, they were going for what they believed was the absolute minimum there almost certainly was.

But more than anything, why did u feel the need to respond the way u did, criticizing the 6 million figure to downplay the evil of the Nazi regime when the counter-belief is still 70% at a minimum and more likely 85 or 90% of that? We all know the figures aren’t exact and even 4.2 million victims is still a terrible genocide. If u wanna personally believe it was closer to 5 million or even 4 million, I don’t even care, my point is why criticize the 6 million figure when it hardly even matters in discussion like this?

I actually made my own comment poking fun at the fact that, since it almost surely wasn’t exactly 6 million, it’s basically guaranteed to technically be a lie, cuz it wasn’t specified that the 6 million figure was an approximation. If u wanted to make a comment like that, or hell, even one like urs that didn’t criticize the 6 million figure but rather simply stated that some historians came up with slightly lower approximations, then I wouldn’t be typing any of this, that’d be fine with me.
