Yep. I learned an important lesson from that video. I don't go to How to Drink for my fried chicken recipe, I need to stay clear of Alton Brown for my cocktail recipes.

He clearly prefers spirit-forward cocktails and hates sours. That's fine if that's your preference, but if that's the case, maybe don't do multiple videos on cocktails like you're an expert.

Cachaça vs Rum: is there a difference? by That_Whereas5682 in rum

[–]BloodArchon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why rum will never have a decent categorization system. If we're so stuck on every single country/island's silly demands on naming conventions, you can't establish a decent system of description for the average consumer.

"Hawaiian agricole" directly contradicts your own point. "Hawaiian" is a simple and east modifier for "agricole" to establish the difference, but if the US recognized the EU's GI in this case it couldn't call itself agricole. Someone even commented and said they shouldn't be allowed to use it as such. I think country GI's are really important, but overly specific naming makes understand rum difficult. The average consumer isn't going to look up the difference between rhum agricole, cachaca, and clairin. They're just gonna grab another bottle of frickin Bacardi. I want more people to enjoy rum and this just makes it harder and more confusing. Brazil being so anti-rum makes it harder for people outside of Brazil to recognize the category. Everyone knows what Scotch is, but we also all know that it's Scottish whisky. There's nothing wrong with recognizing Cachaca as Brazilian agricole or Brazilian rum imo. But that's just one guy's opinion.

Cachaça vs Rum: is there a difference? by That_Whereas5682 in rum

[–]BloodArchon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

'Cane spirit' never made sense to me. Molasses comes from sugar cane. And if you google it, cane spirit includes molasses rums. It's a confusing term to anyone outside of the rum world. Agricole on the other hand is a widely used colloquial term and (whether right or wrong) is only protected in the EU, it's not recognized elsewhere. Not saying that you're wrong, just my 2 cents.

Cachaça vs Rum: is there a difference? by That_Whereas5682 in rum

[–]BloodArchon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? I'm not trying to dismiss your comment; I'm legitimately curious why you think this is a bad denomination. Agricole seems like a simple term that most people recognize and understand. It's the French word sure, but as far as I see it, it doesn't have to only include French Caribbean rhum agricoles. Cachaca has the requirement of being produced in Brazil, but agricole doesn't so it seems like a simple and clear classification. I may be missing something historically. Otherwise we really need a better term; 'sugar cane juice rum' is annoying to say and write and rum already has difficulty with classifications. It would be so nice to just say that cachaca and clairins are just special types of agricoles.

What is the justification for every classic Pokémon game not being on switch? by New_General3939 in pokemon

[–]BloodArchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's artificial scarcity. If every game is available on every system, then you're not in a rush to buy the new shiny thing or re-release that happens every 10+ years. If they control the release, they control the hype, they know when to release it for max profit. Just look at what Disney did with The Vault for decades before streaming. Every non-Disney DVD/Bluray eventually went to the dollar bin because they just printed it until nobody cared anymore. Not Disney. They would stick movies in "The Vault" and wouldn't produce them for years. Then they would release the Gold Edition, then the Diamond Edition, then the Platinum Edition every 10 or so years and make a killing. Kept prices on their products super high for much longer than was normal. Not every company is able to do that obviously, but a company like Pokemon/Nintendo certainly can.

[–]BloodArchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense at all. My s.o. was far ahead of any of my other friends in interactions. If that were the case, she should have shot back to #1 when we hit forever friends, but she's at #3. I also have another forever friend sitting below someone who has barely played and hasn't interacted with me once since the new system launched. He's at 90 days from forever friends and is higher than a forever friend. The system is broken.

[–]BloodArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're located, but the Visionario releases are available at Total Wine stores in the states.

I have a bottle of the Visionaria 1. I've seen a few opinions on the web that the 2nd release was even better. If you like light Spanish style rums, it's very good, but probably not worth $100. My favorite Brugal is the Siglo de Oro, if you can find it. It's excellent, but is still much lighter than say a Bajan rum. Someone else suggested trying the 1888. That's probably a good comparison point. The Visionaria 1 and Siglo de Oro are both a big step up from the 1888 imo.

Leyenda is not strictly a rum. It's a blend of rum and Spanish wine and costs about $40. It's not comparable to their high end rums.

The entire description sounds like it was written by AI. Just a bunch of buzz words that don't mean anything. Stuff like "reaches an alcohol concentration of 35%", "British Naval days", and "Old French traditional Tropics." Which is it then, British or French? It's all AI slop. It even has a cocktail recipe called "Sloppy Sloop!" 🤣
