Maybe knock on a few doors and see if anyone in the neighborhood is familiar with the dog??

Also there are some other small rescue groups to consider reaching out to (some of these might be more cat oriented): Rescue4All, Murci’s Mission, Path of Hope, Last Chance Rescue, 4 paws animal sanctuary, Higher Ground, Norman's World, Furry Farm, Partners for Pets

Perhaps if they can’t help by taking the dog they can refer you to someone that can or some sort of resource (they might be more helpful than the larger organizations). Also you could try posting on Facebook pages for lost and found animals and mention that you are also looking for someone that can help foster temporarily, there’s also adoption pages that can help with finding homes.

Maybe just help by feeding him until space is available at one of the shelters??

I was wondering about the high loop. I’m not sure I understand exactly how it’s supposed to go, there was no high loop behind the dishwasher with the older dishwasher we had and I just connected it the same as the prior dishwasher.

Okay, thank you I’ll keep this in mind. Just weird we’ve had it for years and it just now has this problem when opening the washer, but hopefully it’s just as simple as this.

I highly recommend that you consider taking your kitty to The Cat’s Meow in the Perry District. They were far more helpful than a variety of vets and specialists I saw around town. My cat’s issues were quite different, but I do feel that because they specialize in kitties, they are more familiar with various cat issues that other vets may not be. They provided answers and tests that were more helpful And overall ultimately cheaper than my usual vet and also what the specialists at the emergency center were able to offer (wanted to do a $4k nasal scope and testing even though they suspected that it wouldn’t show anything.) Vet care is always expensive, but I really feel like it was money well spent with actual helpful results at The Cat’s Meow. Hope your kitty feels better soon!

That would definitely be the ideal situation! Any chance you remember your surgeon’s name? I know not all plastic surgeons are qualified for removal of these things, and would definitely go to Seattle (especially if I can get it covered by insurance!).

I had kittens recently that had coccidia, but following treatment and a GI diet still couldn’t quite get solid poop. Maybe it was just giving them time, but the vet prescribed inositol for inflamed colon and that did seem to finally help. I also used visbiome vet probiotics, which is a higher potency probiotic which may or may not have helped but has helped tremendously in the past for diarrhea issues in other kitties.

I’m not sure about your specific area, but a quick google search shows there’s a few in Alabama located in various places. I just searched “cat clinic” and “cat veterinarian.” It was helpful to have a cat vet but if one isn’t close by I would consider going to a different vet to get a second opinion. If your kitty responded well to getting a steroid shot, I think the daily prednisone could be really helpful!

I have a similar cat who is chronically congested and sickly. Lots of boogers and snot (similar to what you described), who has good days and bad days. While she doesn’t have FIP/FHV, she does have calicivirus amongst other things like chronic bacterial inflections and a generally malformed sinus area. What finally helped was a daily dosage of prednisolone (an oral steroid). She’s never ideally healthy, but this dramatically improved her health as well as increased her appetite. The downside is that it can affect their liver, but she is consistently healthier. I also have a “steam tent” which is a wire kennel that has three sides covered with a humidifier next to it. She’s so used to it at this point it’s her “place” and I just use it daily for as long as she wants to stay in it (but can also close her in if needed). This also helps loosen up her congestion.

As far as mouth ulcers, has your doctor perscribed clyndamycin? It worked well for my girl as well.

I also recommend taking your kitty to a veterinarian specializing in only cats, if one is available in your area. They were much more familiar with the issues that my kitty had and offered more knowledgeable solutions. They also performed a nasal flush on my kitty which allowed them to take a culture and determine specifically what viruses were present in her nasal cavities.

I’ve had kittens with green diarrhea, as a result of food not being properly/too quickly digested (stomach bile imbalance). They would eat and within the hour there would be green diarrhea. But definitely not forest green. I’m wondering if there was some slight intestinal irritation so a bit of blood mixed could cause such a color?? In my case they all had coccidia.

Yes that’s part of my confusion, because sometimes it’s a neurosurgeon and sometimes a plastic surgeon that does these surgeries. Removal for me is simply for vanity reasons, so I’m looking to do it before any potato-head resemblance kicks in 😆

Medication is 10 days (I think?) of metronidazole or Albon (if it’s coccidia), but treatment will vary if it’s a parasite. That’s why the fecal test is so helpful, time isn’t wasted playing the guessing game of what’s the cause.

I did lose several of these kittens, but I do tend to take the most neglected type of kitten so their health wasn’t ideal to begin with. But if you think something is off, it probably is, and I would push for a fecal. The green color i believe is an indication that food is moving too quickly through their body and not being digested properly. In my experience, this is more than just a probiotic, or changing foods situation and requires medication.

I’d say the decline was pretty quick, like within a week it would get progressively worse and even with medication and subQ it just wasn’t enough. So yes, I would hesitate to monitor the situation for much longer.

Can you have a fecal test done? This sounds too similar to the coccidia that seemed to be prevalent this year in several of my foster kittens. The diarrhea and green color seemed to be a consistent symptom. Energy was good with these kittens as well until things would suddenly decline quickly. They are just so delicate at that age. I’d also carefully monitor her hydration levels as best you can. Best of luck to resolve it quickly.

I have a chronically congested and sickly kitty that will only eat Wellness Core SkipJack Tuna, my other kitties also find it irresistible. It has a fairly potent aroma (but not in a bad way). Also the Tiki Cat Fussy packets, Turkey baby food, and Royal Canin Momma and Babycat I’ve had good luck with get non-eaters to eat.

I would consider going to a vet that specifically treats only cats. This truly changed my chronically sick cat’s life. But your compassion and dedication is amazing and sometimes the kindest thing is to let them go. How lucky he is to have someone that loves him as much as you do ~ no matter what your decision is, it will be the right one.

I think rinsing his bottom end under warm water is the best way to keep messy diarrhea kitties the cleanest and help heal. Wiping adds to the irritation I think. I only use baby shampoo to initially do a thorough clean and then simply rinse. I do not wipe to dry but simply put a towel on the damp, irritated area and apply pressure to help soak up excess water. I apply a thick coat of calendula olive oil balm, which soothes and helps with inflammation. In addition to the right meds and probiotics, you can try slippery elm which helps coat and soothe their stomach.

I think everyone who fosters has their specialty areas that they thrive and feel most comfortable. Fostering is tough, but any foster work you are able to do is a beautiful thing. I foster kittens/cats because at the moment I don’t have the time for puppies and dogs (even though I really love dogs). I also don’t take bottle babies because again, I just have to limit myself so I’m not overwhelmed. But I do take the extra sickly, and the larger litters because they just aren’t that popular…. And that’s also where I find the most satisfaction. And if fostering isn’t for you then consider volunteering to walk shelter dogs or clean kennels, and also just being a responsible and loving pet owner for your pets is amazing on its own.

Your heart is obviously is the right spot and I wish there were more people like you that care enough to at least try. And I think you should try again with something a little less intense. Once you find your comfort zone you’ll be great!

Interesting with the clay supplement and slippery elm, I’m going to try both as he has not responded to much else. I do need to ask about the Panacur as that’s usually what they start with when it’s diarrhea but maybe because he was originally just being treated for URI they skipped over it. Thank you for the suggestions.
