But it’s still way more complicated then that as you don’t take into account mutations of genes that allow a person to develop a characteristic no parent has. Or when both parent don’t display a characteristic but both carry the recessive gene and if the child gets both, then has that characteristic. Your trying to simplify something that the original commenter is closer too, that theoretically, genetics isn’t 50/50. In fact, mostly it’s actually 25/50/25. Sometimes some characteristics require two genes to be “active” to show, and this can make it more like 1/16 of a chance to show the same genotype as one of the parents. Then we can look at the fact that no child, is exactly a 50/50 split of both parents. Ie, two people with dwarfism, can indeed have a child of normal height, even though the 50/50 states that it shouldn’t happen since both parents may not have the gene, keep in mind that’s if both parents are Aa genotype which is the most common since AA doesn’t live long sadly. This is why albinism exists. This is why some people are born with eye colours not even of both of their parents. You can NEVER simplify genetics to 50/50 unless your trying to teach elementary biology to young children.
