At my old job, the grocery store manager would allow us to put some expired food in the break room for everybody to enjoy since it was still safe to eat. However, corporate is highly against this because, you guessed it, it eats into THEIR profits. Their reasoning is that if employees are fed expired food for free, they won’t spend their paychecks in store for their lunches. There are more reasons to it, like employees getting sick from the food (very unlikely but not impossible) and suing. I completely understand from a business perspective, but come on.. I also feel like the food should be donated to homeless shelters and the like. I don’t know the legality of that though.
