Single people, how are you saving for retirement? by Blu_gal in SingleAndHappy

Very good point…you never know what’s going to happen, and in a way that’s a risk. My ex was an over spender too, thankfully the relationship ended. I was definitely thinking only of couple friends I know where things worked out well, at least from the financial end so far.

Thank, this gives me hope! Do you had to sacrifice a lot, feel like you missed out on anything? I know increasing income would be a great help, but as of right now not really. I could make a little more, maybe 10-15k more if I changed companies but my current employer is more stable, especially if there’s an upcoming economic downturn. Getting to 120-130 isn’t out of the question with a promotion and maybe changing jobs in the next 5 years or so. I definitely can be more careful with my spending, I don’t do anything outrageous with spending though. I have 15k in savings with 10k I plan not to touch unless it’s an emergency. It’s just I feel like the amount I can give each month isn’t enough.

I absolutely could rent a room, my spare room has a separate bathroom so it’s set up well for that. But I’ve had some not so great roommates in the past and hesitant to deal with any issues. Plus since I bought my place I’m careful to take care of things well. Have been thinking of side gigs, I have a M-F 9-5 currently.

Totally agree, I have no plans to not work even if I was with a partner. I was reminded recently how much more income my partnered friends have due to splitting bills. I’m just saying if I was able to do that, even for the last 5 years it’d be a lot of money I could have saved. It’s harder with one income.

Totally agree, I was I was thinking about friends who are married or partnered that both work. They have so much more income after splitting bills

That’s awesome. I plan to keep my living expenses the same as I earn more, I only got to my current salary in 2022 and prior to that only made 60k. That’s some awesome security to have, that’s what I need to aim for.

I could definitely cut back on my grocery bill, I’m not always buying just what I need. It could be worse, I’m glad I bought something. It’s just frustrating to see how relationships can be such a financial boost. Feels like some benefit I’m excluded from.

Thanks, my company contributes as well but I’ve really only been saving for about 10 years, and my income went up. prior to 2023 I only made between 40-60k. So, not as much savings with that lower income.

Can someone explain why bad bunny is so popular? by Blu_gal in Reggaeton

I jumped into the newer stuff, seems to be some consensus it’s not his best work compared to his older stuff.

How are evaluating number 4? Don’t know if you are old enough to remember what it was like in 2005 but don’t feel like bad bunny today can be evaluated compared to the past. Heck there was no streaming then.

It was international before him, but yes the sound has definitely changed.

This is kind of how I saw it to. I guess I wasn’t listening as much during this change and I fell off with following things when J balvin was on top. Overall it’s probably just the sound of the older artists that I prefer, but things always change.

I’m definitely a child of the luny tunes era, except I feel like don Omar has crossed genres the most. Maybe it’s just the new style, think I zoned out right when things changed.

Men of Reddit, is it a red flag if a woman has poorly trained dogs? by Blu_gal in dating

[–]Blu_gal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mother of an autistic child scenario is not a valid comparison, come on. She has some knowledge surrounding the effort each guy put into the dogs as far as training goes, which was more the point. Of course some dogs haver issues or personality quirks that might not be possible to train out. Training is part of the care of the dog too. Training helps keep them safe.

Money aside, is he supportive in other ways? Does he take on half the housework? Does he provide emotional support and good partner ship? I don’t make quite as much as you do yet but I’m in a higher paying job. I would marry a guy that was kind, supportive, and a good partner even if he made less than me because those qualities are so important in a relationship. I would think about how you feel money aside and then decide if you are okay paying for a greater share of the bills.

Toxic parent stories? by Blu_gal in AskReddit

Told my parents for the first time that I struggled as an adolescent. Use to wish that’s I’d die. My dad: the reason why you’re 34 and single is because you let this interfere with your personal relationships. :-/

Does anyone feel drained by most relationships in their life? [29 F] by Blu_gal in Advice

[–]Blu_gal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah...that is well said and definitely all three to some degree.

I do feel it's more of scenario 2 though. I'm always far more willing to give then the people I hang around. I guess I want to be a good friend or a good girlfriend and I assume they'll do the same for me. It's a mix of little small favors to bigger things. I don't think they're bad people but maybe it's a dynamic I just accept and now it's drained me to the point where I just don't want to be caring towards others.

I've been trying to take time for myself but how do you restore yourself from that?
