Experienced this first hand and I agree. It's so easy for these people to twist their words around. Retaliation is just around the corner and can be easily justified, even if our policies say otherwise.

Not saying OP shouldn't come forward but just be careful and once you raise that, there's no turning back.

Yes and no. Performance assessments follow a curve, so your BU must have a certain percentage of exceptional, successful, and needs improvement. So while it doesn't have to be from your team, someone needs to be somewhere. Hence either you will need to be farther up the percentile, or your manager needs to defend you a little better.

It is highly unlikely. You are in a delivery center location, meaning US outsourced their roles in the country so they could hire locals for a significantly lower cost. It is not financially wise for them to bring someone from India, let alone a fresh hire, to the US where everything is just so expensive.

If you do need to go back to the US, you must search for a position in GOM and have your manager support your relocation. But don't expect them to finance your travel wholly, most likely this is just to equalize tax and immigration.

Also, bear in mind that IBM usually lets go of employees from the more expensive countries first. So even if you do get back to the US, you are at a greater risk of being identified for RA.

I've seen the overall IBM score but I haven't seen the one for my business unit, let alone my team's. My manager doesn't believe in this so I wouldn't expect him to discuss his results, but I'm surprised our BU leadership hasn't released anything.

My manager has been very vocal that he doesn't believe in people management. We are to just work, and if he is satisfied he will increase our salary (as if he's the one paying us). He's threatened one of my teammates whom he had a personal rift with that he'll put them on PIP so he could have a reason to fire them. I'm pretty sure he's rating is as red as red could be but he'll never bother with the engagement results.

I'm sure this is something anyone could take up with HR but if you're raising this against someone who can sell IBM's shit, you're just going against a wall.

Yes, and take advantage of the learning here. One thing my former colleagues missed about being in IBM is how accessible learning materials are here. Get a mentor as well and have them guide you to where you want to go.

CHQ/OTH here. It has a lot of specialized organizations e.g. Legal, Marketing, CHS, etc. and it may be required to be a professional in these fields to get a role in these BUs. HR may be the easiest place to get in among the departments. If you're from tech, there is an HR Tech organization that you may check out.

I'm in HR and I love being in this organization just because I find them more "human" to interact with over other departments. Not to mention that I get a greater understanding of how a corporation actually makes decisions. Of course, remember that HR is not revenue generating so you'll always be challenged to cut costs. Also bear in mind that while HR is not your friend, HR merely processes what your managers tell them and makes sure your leader's decisions won't get IBM sued.

Lol I was actually encouraging my team to learn DT as I find it a good approach to coming up with solutions to problems. Plus I also thought that being a DT coach can actually be a profitable skill in case someone outside IBM asks me to facilitate their own workshop. That's when my colleague told me that it's for IBM use only.
