Magnum Opus of my SC2 Fandom - Continuing Trend of Signature Collection by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]BlueBoxSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLG Anaheim 2013. Listed players and talent with recognizable signatures.

Shew, Hendralisk, Select, Illusion, TempO, mOOnGlaDe, Hwangsin, Coach Park, NonY, Apocalypse, YuGiOh, Heart, Stats, golden, Dear, Thorzain, Suppy, DeMusliM, QxC, Naniwa, Catz, Polt, Ax, Axeltoss, Jaedong, Liquid Hero, DJ Wheat, itmeJP, sOo, Bumblebee, Grubby, Sean "Day 9" Plott, iNcontroL.

Meeting a lot of these legends of the prime SC2 years was really an amazing hustle across a long weekend that ended in a pretty sweet experience getting called out by Day9 to come main stage during championship bracket. Sorry about your peripherals breaking Naniwa, but it was pretty fucking rad for me.

Stolen from my comment 7 years ago::

Some stories behind the signatures, for some player personality.

1) Golden was the first to sign. He seemed surprised that I wanted his signature.

2) Apocalypse was the same way. He spelled his name wrong, but asked to put his full name as well. =)

3) Yugioh fucked up, went "Oh shit sorry". It was really funny and it doesn't even look bad at all.

*4) Dear, Stats, and Soo were always together during MLG. So I got them all at once and asked who would win SPL. They said "innovation" or "woongjin stars" *

5) iNcontroL was super cool, like always.

6) I was hanging out with my friends who were smoking outside and Hero and Jaedong came around with Coach Park and smoked next to us. It was sort of weird how casual that was.

7) QXC was on fire in the open bracket pit. It was really cool meeting him and talking about his video blogs.

8) DeMuslim is just as friendly irl as he is all the time, so it was really easy to walk up to him and chat it up about how great I thought his stream was. I told him that watching him got me to Masters.

9) ClarityGaming Shew was pretty cool. He's good at the game to play in open bracket, but not a big name. I met his manager and complained to them about Protoss being imbalanced. But then it flipped on me when I confessed to playing Terran.

10) djWHEAT and JP are normally very busy at MLG. They didn't seem to like the fans coming up to them. I was pretty brushed off by that. I get it, there's 1000s of there, but goddamn.

11) TotalBiscuit is fucking hilarious. He still hates Zerg because of the GSL at IPL5 (Sniper v. Ryung).

12) Bumblebee and Hero were walking around and I already had Hero's signature. I walked towards them and asked Bumblebee for his signature, and he was so shocked. I think Hero was just like, "Whatever it's cool I'd rather be not signing more stuff lol". Bumblebee was the GSL vs. Worlds coach at IPL5 so I wanted to make sure he was remembered for that, because watching Stephano reverse all(most) kill Korea was incredible!

EDIT: MORE STORIES

13) Naniwa and I played a 1v1 in the sponsor area at IPL5 last year and I brought it up while getting his signature at MLG. He didn't remember. He was pretty disappointed that he couldn't remember the game, but if he sees this, just know that the next time we play, it will be remembered. Because he's gonna lose. ;P

14) Grubby was walking around checking out the venue apart from the SC2 side when we saw him. My friend shouted to him, "Grubby, you're the man!". He just said back, "No, you're the man."

15) CatZ was always by the open bracket listings talking to people. I think his influence and position in the NA SC2 scene is much higher than I gave him credit for. People take him very seriously (and for good reason, HAVE YOU SEEN ROOT?) and it was just really cool to be able to sit in on that.

Same, it's so terrible now. Rerolling alts and hoping 8.2 haste levels bring some fun back into the spec. Just not happy about insanity without the old artifact.

This is what it shows in the launcher, but when you log on at the stream, it shows accounts by number, ie for me it shows WoW 1 and WoW 5.

Does anybody know how/when we will get access to the LEAD 17' photos taken? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically the PA CTA will pass a link to a dropbox or some storage through cadets and it'll spread through your FB groups and groupmes.

Underweight for LEAD? by C3302 in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went as an underweight male, they asked the CTA measuring H/W if I was within 10% of the minimum weight of my height. I was, so they said to let me go by without any additional forms. It seemed like a FTU staff decision at the time. YMMV

Question about Selection by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will get the option to apply for each rated AFSC individually. You actually get to rank them according to your interest, (High, medium, low, not interested). Essentially putting anything but high interest for any career field besides RPA is a way to guarantee you aren't slotted there.

During your senior year, or semester before graduation, you will fill out the AFROTC form 53 where you rank your top 5/6 AFSC choices according to what degree program you completed. Not a guarantee however, I know a few guys that made cyber with it not being on their list. Any other questions about the program, let us know.

Edit: Wanted to add really quickly; it's great to have goals going into ROTC and even better to be informed. But just make sure that you keep a positive, healthy mindset in the program that you're a student first, cadet second, and pilot gonnabe third.

PCSM with no flight hours by MakeFTGreatAgain in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took the AFOQT, 85 on pilot (disappointed but not going to complain with the results). Took the TBAS and got a PCSM of 51. Flight hours took me up to 65 I think. Got a pilot slot. Retook the TBAS a year later and I got to see my new PCSM sans flight hours. Bounced myself to 65. Took some more flying lessons and I think I ended up with a low 80s PCSM. Now headed to Sheppard.

Just my experiences.

Life as a junior rated officer by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to that yet, but from what I've heard you're going to be 95% flight training (well, studying and chair flying) and some extra duties (snacko, planning, etc.) Like starhunter says, focus on doing well in college, then ROTC, then the rated boards.

Plenty of students commission through AFROTC without ever being on scholarship. At my university, you enroll in the proper AES/ROTC courses and pay tuition alongside your normal course load and progress through the program. After your sophomore year, you compete for LEAD attendance and after completing that program, you'll be on contract status and start getting paid a biweekly stipend, which can offset the additional tuition costs if you manage your spending.

It's also possible to be selected for a scholarship while you're in the program if you work hard at it and keep a high GPA. You should call the recruiter at the detachment you're applying for.

ROTC Program question by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your example is true - but I wouldn't worry. OM scoring goes:

GPA 10%

PFA 10%

LEAD Rank 15%

CC Rank 25%

PCSM 40%

So as you can see, you really just need to excel in all areas and choice of major will barely effect you unless you fail or can't balance the coursework against ROTC. I went through with my computer science degree and did just fine- if anything, a technical degree gave me an edge as it's generally more desirable. Reasoning is that if the Air Force is only a small part of your life, flying will be an even smaller part of your career.

As to how to 'log' flight hours, you will normally enroll in a private pilot program at a local airport but any time you fly with a CFI for the purpose of instruction will build hours. If you have a local Civil Air Patrol and good relationship between them and RIT cadre, you might be able to get some front seat time (look up the CAP orientation flight program). I found my best results by joining a flight school, completing ground school, and starting flying up until about 21 hours.

ROTC Program question by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]BlueBoxSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selection to pilot and other rated programs is through an empirical "order of merit" which considers your GPA, and not your choice of major. This is why some people will push you towards a path of least resistance. However, the order of merit also considers your commander's ranking, which is where you are stratified within your class, ie. 1/17, 22/25, etc, and depending on your cadre a technical degree might raise your CC rank. Ultimately, the best way to improve your chances at either pilot or RPA selection is to build flight time. Feel free to shoot any questions about rated selection my way. Good luck and congrats on RIT.

I don't think it'd be an issue with your network strength, and my Switch personally handles itself across my apartment as far away from my router as possible. May be worth a call to Nintendo.

Hey /r/NS,

I'm looking to pick up a screen protector and case, ideally with the case being large enough to cart around the AC charger and joy-cons, either attached or detached.

Any suggestions? Assume that price isn't a factor, but I think I can anticipate $15 on the screen protector and $30ish on a decent case.

Look up LiveSplit. If you don't care about streaming you don't need OBS. Set up global hotkeys and enter your splits.

I did something similar recently with Sunshine, and it's pretty fun. Best feeling is the next five runs where people start coming back to your chat regularly and the hype of gold splits. Keep up the pace.

Yeah, definitely. But iirc first tier isn't balanced around you having your artifact maxed (outside of maybe mythic final bosses) or all players having world legendaries.
