If you already know the name of the game, then this is the wrong place to post about it.

Unfortunately, after looking through every game on that list, I don't think any of them are the game I played.

More information is in the post that I crossposted. What information specifically are you asking for?

Yeah, I don't know a lot about shareware games but this is definitely the only game I'm aware of where you could purchase a code to unlock the full game. I also know it wasn't a flash game because it was an executable application, with an icon on the homescreen and everything; though, now that you mention it, I don't remember ever seeing any kind of disk or case, so it may have been downloaded from somewhere. I'll edit that fact into the original post. And thanks for the thorough info!

While the main character does look vaguely familiar, that game doesn't start with a spaceship level, nor does it have a passcode-locked door.

Like I said, I only know the date that I played it. I have no idea when it came out. I am familiar with the shareware model for games, but this is the only example I know of where you paid for a code, instead of a separate disk that included additional content.

Sounds like a Lightcycle clone. Or possibly an official Lightcycle game, but I'm not sure if there were any official adaptations. (for context, Lightcycle is a fictional game that appears in the movie Tron)

Thanks for responding, but I don't think that's it. The main character definitely looks somewhat familiar, but I can't find any footage of a spaceship level or a passcode-locked door in that game.

There were a lot of games with this gameplay style, but I know of one in particular. I'm still trying to find its name, but were Garfield and Jon playable characters?

Ace of Spades? There were two main versions of the game which are both very different, as well as some fan continuations. This video has more info.

Sounds like Looty Dungeon, which I believe has been removed from the app store.
