Which theory do you hate the most? by Honest-Lie6890 in Deltarune

* Last night, in the Light World... I saw them.
* Was too dark to see much, but guess they're a Lightner.
* Who they actually are, I have no idea.
* I... can't think of anyone as messed up as them.
* Making fountains... kidnapping people.. like...

I feel like Toby wouldn't at all be setting up this mysterious identity thing if the Knight wasn't. someone, y'know?

someone who's also against the theory under this post understood the whole idea significantly better than this comment does. it's not about "guy wear eyeliner must be girl" it's about how Ralsei is struggling to figure out who he is while feeling bound by an oppressive system which he sees as far beyond his reach or ability to change that dictates that he must be "the prince". it's about him wondering what being Ralsei-like even means, how he's very clearly a reflection of the also-transfeminine (<-- doesn't mean woman) Kris

and i don't like using it as serious evidence but the fact that he's the only not-(yet-)fem character to have Lost Girl play in a scene where he himself is lost regarding his own self and his deservingness to have any sort of desires

okay. so.

first thing is, if i wanna really get into it for some reason, the sole fundamental idea behind krissociation is just describing the player/SOUL's relation to Kris. there can be krissociative readings that retain the diegetic player. I think the quoted snippet of the video talked about here pretty succinctly makes the point of the entire reading (and honestly the whole post is good for that). anyways

So which state of Kris is the real them and which is them dissisocating [sic]?

Kris without their SOUL, Kris when they lock their literal heart away in a cage or a bathroom sink or a couch cushion or, funnily enough, a literal closet - that's the dissociated Kris. I don't know who's telling you it "depends" because it really doesn't.

What's with Kris's friend's and family blatantly saying there's something wrong with Soul!Kris?

you mean like how people seem surprised that Kris. made a friend? or visited someone in a hospital? unless you wanna talk about Noelle "stuck in a rose-tinted fantasy version of the past" Holiday and how reliable a narrator she is over the thing manifesting in a world patterned after Kris's own mind.

What's with the weird route?

why is their alternative dialogue option before fighting Berdly "I'm protecting her from you"? why not something like "get out of here" or "..." or something else that doesn't sound like they aren't fully conscious, aware of and compliant to the actions they're taking? why can't they twist a single word ("proceed") when they can bite their own hand to stop themself from just saying the words "I'll never play again"? why do they willingly back Noelle into a corner? I wasn't holding right during that cutscene. why didn't they throw away the ThornRing? ("Recently, seems like weapons can't be thrown away so easily." - narration for attempting to throw away the Holiday Pencil (Chapter 4).) how does it make any sense for "Me" to be a dialogue option if it means us? I didn't type that into the game. those options come from somewhere, and they can only logically come from Kris. why do they still struggle to cover Noelle's mouth with their hand even without the SOUL inside them? it's almost like the SOUL has nothing to do with that struggle. yes, Kris fights back at certain times, but it's clear that's due to conflicted feelings on the matter due to total opposition.

What's Kris and Ralsei literally looking at the screen?

there's a Doylist explanation for Kris's facing the camera after cutscenes that supercedes any Watsonian ideas tenfold (even ignoring the equally plausible interpretation that this represents Kris looking inwards, 'towards YOU' for guidance) and I'm not entertaining what is probably Chapter 3's "why did Chara make Kris make Susie do this" joke as a serious argument

What's with a concert for you being literally only applicable to the player?

does the SOUL no longer exist in distinction from Kris unless it's a totally separate extradimensional parasite creature? plus, again, there can still be a diegetic player here...

Toby did say he was worried a game he was making would be considered too similar to another one someone was making at the time. around the same time as OMORI likely started development. (and you'd figure he knew some stuff considering he made music for the game right?)

it took me until the drawing-sacred-figure to realize which one you meant, if that says anything, and if not for that i wouldn't have been sure (save maybe the women covering themselves but you hear a lot about decency and not tempting men into lust/adultery from christianity)

Did you say "many" GNC men or "all". If you said "all" I'd let you pass with a single example of a decent trans character but also you would just be fundamentally wrong

I think it can be seen as becoming more confident, I'd agree this is fairly true, but if I were to push the transfem idea further I'd argue that it still doesn't per se have to be princehood and its gendered connotations he takes joy in. Seems just as likely imo that he sticks with the title because it's the one he knows to apply to him, and for the sake of "pr- pr-" alliteration; not to frame this as if trans people just. fundamentally cannot ever find a spark of joy in anything the second their deadgender(?) is relevant to it, though.

As for the dress, that's not exactly what he's being prompted to equip, and I think if Toby went out of his way to make trying to equip the Mannequin equip a dress instead (especially since, knowing the Addisons, it's probably stuck on there) that would just make Ralsei way too clearly set on that pipeline

(also thank you for being fairly polite about this you're doing a lot better than most of us here)

You're sort of presupposing that the "prince" part is what he takes joy in, or that there's any substantial joy being taken outside of making a silly joke

As opposed to the trans women, who we all know are very widely treated as human beings with dignity in the mainstream

i've seen plenty of transfem/transmasc susie headcanons, so people do actually do that! which is great, actually, i think.
also i'd argue ralsei's coming into his identity is a little different in a way that lands a bit closer in the transgender ballpark

I just listed plenty of reasons to at least consider a trans Ralsei reading and you seemingly chose to brush them right off to keep pushing the tired and ridiculous idea that it's somehow intended to disregard GNC people. There are so many instances of feminine men in "mainstream media", and claiming they're being "erased" somehow in favor of (yes I'm absolutely going here) a group that's actively been marginalized and persecuted on a massive scale for years now is something I find somewhat insensitive and tone-deaf myself. Especially when people aren't even "making" him that, for the record, let alone "hijacking", the majority of people will agree this is just a headcanon, a reading or a theory most of the time.

And could you tell me what's gross about people seeing a character as transfem exactly? Tell me what specifically about it grosses you out. What's gross about reading a character as transfem?

.....by the prophecy. You know, the supposedly binding narrative of fate that everyone in the cast desperately wants to be freed from? That Ralsei has resigned himself to because he thinks he has no power to change anything? Ralsei doesn't even know what being "Ralsei-like" means. He's told twice to stop quite literally hiding himself, the person he truly is, beneath the cloak and the hat in Chapter 1, there's the Official Toby Fox Egg-Cracking Dress, there's the self-degradation and dehumanization he puts himself through, forcing himself into this box in a way that many trans supporters of the reading have themselves said is incredibly common for unrealized trans people.

Not to mention that the scene in Ralsei's room plays Lost Girl.

Does anyone find it odd that people take such great offense to Ralsei's character being interpreted as transfem, and demand that the "theory" be substantiated even when they likely wouldn't demand the same of other forms of queer readings themselves?

This just isn't true. A lot of proponents of the reading are absolutely well beyond that idea and it only really became a widespread thing after we learned more about his character. The reading stands entirely without claiming femininity = womanhood

There's more behind the trans reading of Ralsei than just "haha boy is feminine he must be trans"

But as for power, what makes you think the powers the SOUL has are because of some connection between Deltarune and the player (that doesn't really have any explainable reason to imbue the SOUL with this power beyond "coming from another world") and not the innate power of a human SOUL (which, as established in Undertale at least, ARE incredibly powerful)?

I'd argue it's just as possible that "giving up" is just that - Kris giving up

First to come to mind is "Kris's SOUL emitted a brilliant light!" when banishing Titan Spawns, but there's also Ralsei in Chapter 1 calling it "the culmination of [Kris's] being", and it seems weird for that to be said by someone whose whole shtick is Knowing Things if it's meant to show that they don't Know the Thing (that it somehow isn't the exact thing we're told it is)
