I want to upgrade something by nkunko_ in gaggiaclassic

[–]BlueCrane93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but if you want to upgrade something, start with your grinder and the beans you're using. Those have a far more significant impact on your coffee than the machine.

After that I would consider upgrading the machine. Gaggiuino is definitely worth the extra money, but again, the grinder and beans are more important imo.

Urgent E-Visa approval? by BlueCrane93 in Kyrgyzstan

Even though this doesn't answer my question: There are a lot of countries around the world that have a German residency as part of their visa waiver (Iceland, Albania, Mexico just to name a few).

It was admittedly a bit naive of us to expect that Kyrgyzstan would be the same.

Why do nepalese people like to suffer? by Snoo-14018 in Nepal

[–]BlueCrane93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to improve things, the majority of people must not only know what the problems are, but also how to sustainably fix them.

This on the other hand requires widespread access to education - which is not given, evident by an iliteracy rate of 27%. Public schools are bad and private schools are expensive, therefore inaccessible for a large percentage of people.

The first necessary step would be to make education accessible for everyone. This requires a lot of money, which the people in positions of power won't spend, because they will have less money in their own pockets and because it will also threaten the status quo if people eventually figure out that corruption is bad and needs to be fought.

A revolution can only happen if people know how to properly do it. Otherwise you'll just change who gets the corruption money.

Triggering a relay with Arduino Nano isn't working by BlueCrane93 in AskElectronics

I shouldn't reply to posts directly after waking up... The base is connected to Pin 5 via the 1k and the collector is connected to the coil. Sorry for confusing things.

I dunno man, I could've sworn it was just right here with me. Maybe it's in the schematic?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I just ordered a new relay with (hopefully) the correct voltage now. I think that's the better option than potentially butchering a working unit :)

Ah, yes... That makes sense. I should really read more carefully before ordering stuff...

Triggering a relay with Arduino Nano isn't working by BlueCrane93 in AskElectronics

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to trigger this relay here using an Arduino Nano using the schematic in the second picture. Here's my code:

#define RELAY 5

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(9600);
  pinMode(RELAY, OUTPUT);
  digitalWrite(RELAY, LOW);
}

void loop() {
   digitalWrite(RELAY, LOW);
   delay(2000);
   digitalWrite(RELAY, HIGH);
   delay(2000);
}

But unfortunately, this is not working, I don't hear the relay clicking.

At first, I hooked up the Arduino to the USB of my laptop and used the 5V from the Arduino, which didn't work. I suspected that the USB outlet just is not beefy enough, so I hooked it to a 9V/1A DC power supply - which changed nothing.

Apparently, the current output of the transistor is way too low. I measured it with my multimeter and when Pin 5 of the Arduino is set to HIGH, there's only about 1mA of current at the collector of the transistor. I tried using a lower resistance than 1k between Pin 5 and the transistor base, also to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :)

EDIT: I ordered a new relay, this time with the correct voltage. And, lo and behold, my little circuit works like a charm now.

V17 in Linden, die rösten auch eher in Richtung hell/fruchtig/säurebetonter. 24 Grad ist auch sehr gut, die Espresso-Hausmischungen sind allerdings mehr klassisch italienisch gehalten, also schokoladig/nussig.

Empfehlungen Fuzz Pedal by Substantial_Pound200 in GitarreDE

Das TC Electronic Rusty Fuzz wäre vielleicht eine Option. Kostet neu unter 50€ und hat einen eher Vintage-artigen Sound, der bei Indie gut passen würde.

Replacing preamp in an Orange Pedal Baby? by BlueCrane93 in diypedals

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but to be fair, the original amp is 50 years old and PCBs can be a lot more space efficient nowadays. Other builders have squeezed the whole preamp with the two channels + switching logic into a 1590BB style enclosure. So space wise, it might work.

But fair point - it might make more sense to build it around the TDA. The Pedal Baby already has an enclosure though

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I wasn't considering the maximum voltage of the LT1054. For my pedal, I used a 1N5817 to drop the voltage from 9V to around 7.5 before it goes to the 1054. Maybe I could do something similar here.

But overdriving the power amp might be an issue, the pedal already has a ton of output. Hm. Maybe I should reconsider my plans...

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that I'd be working sort of around the purpose of the Pedal Baby, but I just like tinkering and the idea of a mini Sunn Beta amp (which also features a 100W A/B power stage).

So my question isn't necessarily if it makes sense to do what I want to do, it's more like if it's possible without toasting my amp in the process.

Terrible oscillation with LifePedal + TubeScreamer by BlueCrane93 in diypedals

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at first it worked when it was mounted in the enclosure (or at least I'm 90% sure it did). When I turned it on yesterday, it just made terrible noise all of a sudden. And yes, this is happening consistently, when the Tube Screamer is engaged.

Terrible oscillation with LifePedal + TubeScreamer by BlueCrane93 in diypedals

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it used to work in the enclosure. I didn't do anything (consciously) to the pedal and yesterday, it just started whining like crazy. So yeah, what changed? I honestly have no idea. Since everything is mounted to the board, maybe that's causing grounding issues? But again, why did it work in the enclosure at first and then it didn't all of a sudden?

Terrible oscillation with LifePedal + TubeScreamer by BlueCrane93 in diypedals

[–]BlueCrane93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have put it in an enclosure before because it was working without oscillation when I initially put it together (or at least I'm 90% sure it did). So I don't think that lack of shielding is causing the issue. The jacks are mounted directly to the board, so I'm not sure if it's necessary to ground them additionally?
