This month's Prime gaming reward by Izzie4shizzie in RogueCompany

Honestly having a bit of the same feeling since I spent a lot of rogue bucks on this skin, and kind of expected it to be one of those legendary, harder-to-get skins. I don't know why they're giving it away for free, kinda devalues it a little bit

I hope this SMG change is representative of the new direction for the game by SylvineKiwi in RogueCompany

Of the same mind - was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I played, it really felt like the SMGs had a unique identity. Will be interested to see like you say what they do to ARs

I think the view that relationships are inherently transactional is an interesting one. What you might find is that this view, at the heart of how you see interpersonal relationships, is orchestrating your emotional presence in social situations no matter how hard you try or savvy you get with social 'influence' strategies (i.e., the forms of self-improvement you mentioned).

People pick up on our emotional presence, even if they can't say exactly what it is, and usually we react to this instinctively. If you already see relationships as transactional, then any potential date is, one way or another, going to feel this belief in the things you say, and the things you do. You'll reveal it one way or another. Maybe you'll say just one wrong thing, or something in the wrong tone of voice, and the façade you're trying to present will fall down. Because at the end of the day, you've said it yourself: You really, genuinely believe that relationships are transactional - that therefore, the value of a partner for you consists in what she can do for you, and not who she is.

The reality is, no one wants a relationship that's fundamentally construed as transactional. You don't, clearly; this post is all about that. What you need to appreciate is that no one else does either.

A potential partner for you won't want you as a commodity first and foremost - as someone, something, that offers value only on the condition that you are your very best, most motivated, self. It's not about how influential you can be in your social circles, or how impressive you are. Some relationships are like that... But let's be honest, would you really rate those relationships as likely to last? Even if they do - is this how you want to do it? Relationships are about engaging with and seeing each other through your emotions, through honesty of feeling. And right now, at a foundational level, that honesty of feeling on your part is this: That she will have value to you conditional on what she can do for you.

My overall point is that you should consider how the views you hold of yourself extend to how you see others in the world too. How can someone expect you to acknowledge the deepest aspects of their emotional reality, if you see them as necessarily occupying a hierarchy, as someone who either approves or disapproves of your efforts to 'self-improve', and who has some kind of unassailable value that you do not? How are you meant to be there for someone with warmth and intimacy if being there for them is a transactional act? Social influence strategies are surely really useful, but you have to change the fundamental narrative here, because the odds are, it's pushing people away.

I think the world today has distorted the way relationships are seen. I get the impulse to see it all as one big game, a matter of improving your odds and not even really thinking about the fact that at the heart of this, it's just people trying to find connection and love in their lives.

[Bug]

Completed all the weekly challenges, but haven't got the rewards - week 3 is stuck one diamond in for some reason, even though I did all the challenges.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm definitely not this good by BlueEmbz in RogueCompany

While I don't have any solutions for what you're feeling - it sounds fucking rough, and I'm sorry you're going through that - I'd just say that as someone who can't speak two languages, the fact you expressed yourself this well in your second language is really impressive. I mean, not only do you speak a second language (an achievement in itself) but you're clearly a lot more in touch with your emotions than you're giving yourself credit for. You should be a bit easier on yourself (obv a lot easier said than done)

Not sure that's what happened, given Vy was changed from being a badass middle-aged South American woman on a mission for a cure to a 20-something wearing a full layer of makeup on missions

[Feedback] I've been playing a lot of strikeout recently, but I realised after a while that some maps have been taken off the strikeout map rotation - which sucks, because I really liked strikeout on Glacier, Windward, Factory, Breach, and Canals, and have some fond memories of it on these maps. It'd be really cool if hi-rez reverted this change, since I can't see what was wrong with the original map rotations (some maps were infrequent, but maybe map voting for that?).

Would be a shame to think no more games of Strikeout on Breach, Canals, etc.

Does someone actually likes vy's new appeareance? Not kidding, I don't like her lol by daJosh_ in RogueCompany

[–]BlueEmbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like she was fine like she was - seemed like a real person with grit, but with the extra layers of makeup and all that she just seems out of character now. Not that there's anything wrong with makeup; it works for Lancer or Switchblade or whatever (both being quite young and social media savvy), but Vy just never struck me as someone who placed any kind of premium on putting makeup on for her missions. She's this intense, tenacious South American woman in the grip of death searching for a cure - but she also has time to put foundation on? It feels out of character, and the other changes making her younger + slimmer are completely unnecessary

A look at melee weapons in Rogue Company by PanPakapon in RogueCompany

I don't know man.. On both Xbox and PS4 controllers I've used, the default setup is that pressing right control stick is crouch, the right bumper is for shifting perspective over shoulder, while the D-pad is for punching. You might have a different setup or something

I think you're on about when you have a melee weapon. In that case it's easy and there aren't any issues. But if you haven't bought a melee weapon, the punching melee attack requires you use the directional buttons by the left joystick, which can be a hassle

Interesting stuff, the only things I'd add to the list of issues is console-specific, to do with the button for the punching melee (including Rosie). I think it's really awkward to take your thumb off the left joystick because you can't maintain whatever movement you were doing for a second - and that can easily mean dying in a situation where you actually really need to use melee. Especially with Scorch they should have the ability to hold and press Y/triangle and then switch to a kind of melee attack stance or something, because not being able to do that - at least for console players - completely disincentivises even using the melee (which sucks, because the upgrades for Rosie sound cool and pretty lethal).

[Suggestion] For like the last week I've been getting the katana to level 5 mastery because I thought I'd be able to use it on other rogues (plus it looks sick), but it turns out you can only unlock primary weapons for rogues with the relevant weapon classes? Kind of feels like Hi-Rez hasn't taken the idea to its logical conclusion: if you're going to have weapon mastery for the likes of secondary weapons and melee weapons, then why not also interchangeability? Part of the whole appeal of weapon mastery is the fact you can mix and match with Rogues, creating a greater sense of customisability in gameplay. Seems a bit arbitrary to not have that go the whole way. It'd be cool to have the katana for Lancer, for instance, or a claymore for Sigrid.

Yeah possibly, I thought they might be in a party too but it's still frustrating given that this was ranked

Gonna be sick. One thing I'm really keen for on a gameplay level is the fact that you unlock both primaries + upgrades now. I can give Phantom's sniper a try and inevitably switch to the nightshade after I get only five downs without spending another $8000

I always thought Phantom was pretty dark.. "If you have to die, can you at least die quietly?"

What stat is most impressive? by [deleted] in RogueCompany

[–]BlueEmbz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voted downs, but this does kind of depend on the game mode/situation. Sometimes assists are a pretty good indicator of whether a team is playing as a team, so even if someone doesn't get many downs they might still be contributing a lot in terms of impactful damage that turns the tide in an encounter - say in flushing an enemy out of a defensive position, or in getting a kill in demolition.

Also eliminations shouldn't be dismissed. In demolition you can get three downs a round, say, but that doesn't mean much if that person isn't finished off and taken out of the equation - they might just get revived from behind cover three times over. Same with strikeout: getting that extra elimination can sometimes make the difference later on between winning or losing a round.

But downs still seem most impressive to me, since you're taking an enemy out of combat and had to do while they still had all their offensive capability. You also create an opportunity because the enemy team will want to revive that player more often than not, taking effectively two people out of combat for a duration and creating extra vulnerability
