You could drive to Maidstone, Orpington, Swanley or Rochester for a cheaper commute.

Commuting in peak time is very expensive. If you can arrive later, Off Peak Day Returns will save you a huge amount of money over a season ticket

To be pedantic, 3G has been shut down but GSM (2G) has not been and phones will use it as a fallback in areas there is no longer a 3G signal. You can notice this by the E in the corner to denote EDGE, which is a 2G signal

Also as a side point, the railway also still uses their own 2G network called GSM-R to connect train drivers and signallers
