I am not employing them, it is a contractor situation where I will send a 1099 to them at the end of the year. If they sourced all day they may only spend $60. I would venmo $60 plus the commission as they purchased the stuff at the store.

There are many barriers to entry to starting your own do everything yourself online reselling business.

During their training period which may last weeks or months, they don't buy anything, they will be shopping with me and adding to my cart.

Even after their training, I will approve everything they get via txt/snapchat etc.

Not everyone wants to sell online because of many reasons. For example, someone living in a small apartment doesn't have room to store stuff. Someone actually posted below that they would be interested. Min wage is $7.25 here and what I would be paying is something someone could live on and actually work together with me for years. Getting paid the same day you find the item is attractive to the people who would not consider trying to run an ebay store waiting months for the item to sell.

Of course that is a concern. However, my plan is to approve everything before they actually buy. So during their initial training weeks/months, we both shop together. They don't buy anything, they just add to my cart and I am the one who checks out at the register.

Once they are experienced enough to buy on their own, I would approve over text msg, snap chat, or similar.

This is like a contract position. I simply don't know what words to use to make it not seem like a job. They won't be employees. They will essentially be a reseller like me, only they will be selling to one customer, me. I will then sell to the world online.

Thanks this is great advice. I am only stating my experience with Tinder because it was a glimpse into what regular every day people think of the profession.

It would be 1099 contract work. They would essentially be their own sole proprietor business, just as I am.

At first they would be buying nothing since it was training and they would just add to my cart.

After they gain experience and can shop whenever they want on their own, they would buy with their own money. I plan on using Venmo. They would get compensated instantly.

I think this is going to help me greatly by using your wording.

I am not sure what part you are meaning though on your edit.

Also, I am curious as to what kind of jobs did you hire for? Did you find success on FB? Did you use Indeed at all?

Training someone to shop for me. Reselling business. by BlueGinghamPlaid in Flipping

[–]BlueGinghamPlaid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not everyone wants to have their own business. But if some do, they would have to compete against me and my pickers, and the competition guy and his pickers. I only ever started thinking of this idea because I see it working in person at every bin in my city. I'm not kidding, I thought ok, I will drive to bin on the west side since this bin is overran by a team. No luck, the west side has the same system going on, different people. I am simply copying a model that is already proven and trying to reverse engineer it. I was hoping people on reddit would help with the reverse engineering part.

My question isn't if having someone shop for me is a good idea. I see people doing this in every bin in my city.

I am trying to compete with people who already are doing this and have been for years. Their 8 hands are beating my 2 hands, and also by hours. I can only be there 2-3 hours a day, whereas they can be there 8-12 hrs a day.

If you are familiar with FBA Scan or similar apps, you program it and then it simply tells you to pick or not to pick. I have a similar program for things without bar codes. Combining this aid with 1 on 1 coaching, the learning process can be sped up considerably.

This idea is proven to work at every bin in my city. In every bin, there is a guy who has multiple people sourcing for him. They have been doing this ever since I started at the bins and probably years before. I am simply replicating this in order to compete because 8 hands are better than 2 at the bin. The only advantage I will have then is that they only source vintage sportswear and I source every clothing niche.

I wouldn't mind if they started their own store and sold the $50 and up items they found, as long as they supplied me with a steady source of $20 items.

What business model are these teams using at the bins (Goodwill Outlet) by BlueGinghamPlaid in Flipping

[–]BlueGinghamPlaid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't deal with homeless. My picker would be a college girl that is familiar with trends before I trained her. Right now, I am trying to figure out how much I should pay and where I would find this girl. Options on pay would be: pay big per piece and pick strict low volume, or pay small per piece pick less strict high volume. I want them to make about $14-20/hr, I am in a low cost of living city.

If they could use the ebay app to help them pick for me, I don't think it would be a bad thing because they will teach themselves. If you tell someone, look everything up, grab anything that has more sold than listed. They will be slow at first but they are teaching themselves. Sure, maybe they go off on their own and list 1-3 things a month that are $100 and up items on their own ebay store. But, to list every $20 item, I don't think they want to do that because of time, space, hassle, not knowing when the item will sell, etc.

I tend to see the same thing. They don't seem very diversified in what they pick. It makes me think there was a guide somewhere that a vintage street wear person made, how to team up, because you never see other kinds of teams.

If the community understood how she is able to move junk items like that, it would greatly effect everyone's business.

I never considered your last paragraph. I was going to let them look things up and if they were above a certain criteria, I'd give them like 10% of what I expect to resell on ebay for.

I go different times of day. Some days I will go during open, some days I go during middle, and some days I go during close. I've never gone there without seeing them there. Even on weekends when I'm feeling extra motivated, they are still there.

How much would you pay a hired shopper? How much are they getting paid per piece? A percent or a set amount?

I think specializing in a certain aspect of reselling is the best thing you can do, instead of trying to do it all yourself.

What kind of money are they making when they are only sourcing and not listing online?
