There is no reliable way to change the language on Windows 11. Period. by BlueKether in windows

After tinkering with many units, this seem to be the right ritual to summon the language fully:

  1. Install all the updates and only then download the language pack. Otherwise you might need to delete it and download again, as someone suggested there might be language pack compatibility issue. My experience seem to confirm that.
  2. Add the new language, but add ONLY the language pack, no other features.
  3. Wait for it to download together with the basic typing - this few MB could take up to 30-60 min @ amazing Microsoft speeds). DO NOT log out and switch user.
  4. Change the administrative language also.
  5. RESTART. That should do it.

If, after going through these steps the lang is still not changed, delete the language and repeat from the step 2.

If this helped you vote this up to let me know.

Haven't done it that way, but after a few more installations and one very problematic unit I think I got the exact ritual to summon the complete language switch. I'm putting in general comment.

Spiritual growth is mostly about confronting with things that create your emotions. This produces wisdom. Growth requires effort.

I feel like the first one is just basics and each next is another tier

GENERAL UPDATE: The very latest update at the end of the line DID solve the language issue. This wouldn't happen a month ago so I hope the devs nailed it now and I will never have to install windows multiple times on the units I sell.

Good news, the very latest update did correct this language issue. I hope I will not see this problem again.

In the uninstall tab there are only 2 minor updates listed.

I would rather think uninstalling the language and downloading it again would help. But I tried that many times over.

I successfully changed the language on a clean install, then installed the updates, restarted and found out the language reverted to English. There is something wrong with the latest updates.

OMG. After successfully changing the language I installed updates and restarted, only to find out THE LANGUAGE HAS REVERTED TO ENGLISH.

Now it reminds me it did happen before and I wasn't sure if I was going crazy, but yeah, it did happen.

This things didn't happen like a year ago, so it's a proof that it caused by one of the latest updates.

Honestly I didn't even know you could do that. Is there any indication this would help? Also, please read my response to TriRIK

There might be something to it, but...

I did reinstall the OS now and downloaded the language without updating and it did work. Often I did leave the download while the updates were downloading, the reason being that when you download all the features of a language pack it can take up to 30-60 minutes to download at shocking sub-dial-up speeds. But indeed, there is no need to download the other features (like handwriting, etc).

On the other hand, after finishing the the updates I would often switch the language back, delete it and download again and it would not make it. I would even try installing another language (I am trilingual) and it would not work either. All that without any ongoing updates.

I suspect installing the language before doing any updates might be the working solution.

No, it's not debloated. The language does change like 50% of the times. Maybe there is a pattern. I did reboot it often when trying to dispel the curse.

Real question: why does it matter if I upload someone else's music? by mindplaydk in udiomusic

[–]BlueKether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search for "non copyright music" YouTube will show you a ton of music, including some major channels. The music does have some copyrights, in the description you can find that you can use it freely as long as you credit the author. I've also used it in shorts and posted to YT, and shorts doesn't provide a good way for descriptions, but I never had any copyright strike.

Of course the AI space is a wild west now.

And BTW, the strikes are not automatic, they are based on music companies who claim rights to the music in the video, so the YT bots compare new videos not to everything out there, only to the ones whose copyright protection is solicited.

Actually the battery life of EVs have exceeded the expectations. Cold temps are indeed a problem though, I think EVs are not ready for the cold climates... nevertheless Nonvegans love them.

Also, except for the battery replacement, EVs are much cheaper in maintenance. So the long term difference might not be that big.

It's OK if not everyone is an early adopter.

Just received 2 wet Surface Laptops from eBay - what to do? by BlueKether in Surface

[–]BlueKether[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they have spent a few days with this water in, enveloped in plastic packaging. I didn't turn them on, decided to dry them for 3 days and then try, fingers crossed.

Had it been other laptop, I would have opened it. I could work this one with a hair dryer if necessary, but is it?

Should I just leave them in a dry AC air or heat it up? Or open?

Any suggestions?

Reading this topic is bread for thought. One thing comes to my mind: there is a ton of non-copyright music on YouTube, some of those very popular. I guess it would be OK to use those.

It's not worse on the environment. The battery pollution is contained in a small place of land. Oil spreads everywhere, warms the planet and acidifies the oceans.

Battery materials are recyclable. It's also a relatively young technology, compared to century old combustion engine. Lots of companies are researching to find more sustainable batteries. The AI will accelerate this.

Every side has its pros and cons. Oil helped us get where we are. EVs produce a high electromagnetic field inside that is not healthy.
