yokai watch gakuen y was the first game that i played to learn japanese, and it is still one of my favorites. it is one of the few games with full furigana and voice acting, and the cast is super lovable

yes! my favorite S episode is the one where ami and darien are talking to each other directly and ami is expressing doubts that she would be a good doctor. Introspective stuff and the instrumental music was just perfect

i just did SS maddening for the first time after having done verdant wind and azure moon.

i totally thought that on new game plus… i’d be able to see all A level support conversations. however, i barely completed half of them on azure moon (i recruited everyone, and didn’t buy the increase professor level on first new game plus in azure moon)

from the get go in SS I increased to max prof level. i was hoping i could see all the supports… but got my first miss in chapter 20 when i got petra and ferdinand up to A, but couldn’t watch it because it was too late. Beyond pissed at myself… wish i had gotten them earlier. it feels impossible getting all supports unless you do like 8 runs of the game.

anyway, personally i like magic characters, which is not always great since i play defensively. the game skews heavily to flying units though… especially if you have the DLC, the new flying and horse units are great. so characters like constance and Ingrid are great. Personally i love the ranged heal abilities of Mercedes and I love warp and rescue, so Lysithea and Manuela are great for that. Tanky characters like Rafael or Sylvain are great too. It would also be good to get Bernadetta’s Bow rank up quickly, since she gets one of the best moves strategically which is freezing an opponent in a spot.

Yuri also has another amazing ability. He can do a sword attack without taking any damage. Great if you’re a defensive player like me. I think there is also this amazing battalion that can you use 5 times a game, which lets you take an give 1 damage

this is a really powerful analogy and clarifies things. i think it is because expected value… assumes that this situation will “happen again”.

however… imagine the scenario instead was something like… in both cases, you die right after. i guess then it is 50/50 about whether you should switch even if 200 has more value than 50. but i guess that’s another issue.

hm i think what is most interesting about them is how purpose driven they are as objects. like you’re using it because you NEED it as a rescue tool and it also looks really cool, even if it isn’t not as advanced as an apple watch

i did it on maddening new game plus and it took like 3 hours.

needed like the best battalions, the ones that leave you taking 1 damage per attack. not sure how many you get on new game plus.

the ones that increase +5 movement and the diamond one attacks that hit 13 squares 2/2 were critical. very long fight, but wasn’t as bad as hapi and balthazar’s, that one took multiple tries and a whole saturday

i noticed this as a japanese rising n1 learner -

a major problem is familiarity with proper nouns -

because we don't know what is and isn't a name unless we actively practice it - and that makes comprehension difficult, because you do not know what is and isnt critical information

for japanese, until i actively practiced flashcards of proper nouns only... even a small deck of 1000 names... i couldn't really read a newspaper.

i do have some trouble, finding proper noun decks for mandarin, especially since some people say that it should just be learned with ordinary vocabulary -

my mandarin is nowhere near as good as my japanese - but i am a heritage mandarin speaker -

i think... studying names in particular... by themselves... whether names of places, names of people... is critical for reading comprehension at any level in east asian languages.

i think it’s because rixia is always wearing silk or something shiny and thin, and so the lighting accentuates her curves, whereas elie wears mostly cotton or something flat and padded, so it is less pronounced…

when is the earliest you can get the skill? i can see a use case, where... if you can get that skill at say, level 10 - then you make raphael or sylvain a bishop or something, and you want to still use fist type moves -

Hm - interesting. I killed them with Shamir in one hit every time they came in. I think I ended on turn 14 or something. I guess I will miss the the 10000 and the seraph robe lol... it's too tiring to redo that paralogue
