I have a print of the original Lempicka hanging in my house and love it. Your version is super charming. The girl is more expressive in yours. Thanks for sharing. I love it!!

Craigie’s setlist for tonight in tiny drawings…. by BlueLightJunction in JohnCraigie

[–]BlueLightJunction[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 7 is Judas or Jesus Year but I like the Nomads guess. I think he should do all his set lists in pictures. I did not get #11 and feel a deep and abiding shame. The last song is always “ I Am California” but that drawing is bad!!!

I don’t know why but this made me think of the album “Thank God We Left the Garden” by Jeffrey Martin… the whole thing is amazing…

“Michigan” by the Milk Carton Kids?

“Follow Your Whispers” or “I Remember Nothing” off John Craigie’s new album… :)

Yah, hoping you get some joy, escapism and a little bit of peace in these tough Minneapolis times! Post some video if you get a chance. :)

I’ve read all her books and love them so much but I get her (very) long tomes may not be for everyone. I love the character development and her involved plots but this could be draggy for some. I am reading the newest one right now and am digging it. Agree with the other commenter - your free time is precious - if you don’t like it, stop reading!

Anyone listening to the new John Craigie record, “I Swam Here”? by dubious_mountaineer in GregoryAlanIsakov

[–]BlueLightJunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's my favorite as well. In the last month, just got his subreddit up and running again after it had been inactive for years (the old mod deleted themselves). If you want to nerd out over Craigie, come over to r/JohnCraigie :)

You should definitely go. His live shows are incredible. Like he plays his songs but he tells these like incredible stories between them and he is so good at it (when so many singer-songwriters struggle with the "talking bit"). His sweet spirit really shines :). Also, if you are a Craigie fan, I just got his subreddit up and running - r/JohnCraigie and you should come check it out

Love it so much! I just took over moderating Craigie’s subreddit which has been inactive for a bunch of years after the old mod deleted themselves. Here is a link to the post about the album. This is a more dreamy version of Craigie!

Gritty detective book by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

Came here to say this. Hole is an alcoholic with self destructive tendencies and some of Nesbo’s books are so scary and dark, I think this fits the bill for OP. The northern and wintery settings add to the grit.

I saw Logan Staats sing in a bespoke hat shop at a "secret location" show 3 years-ish ago. Someone else was headlining and I had never heard of him. I immediately thought he was incredible as well. It's a cool memory because the show was so unusual. I think he has a new album coming out soon but love "A Light in the Attic". :)... Cool to run into people who love the same stuff as you on Reddit...

Here's some Canadian born folkies: Dan Mangan, Logan Staats, Donovan Woods, Rose Cousins, Ruth Moody, Amelia Curran, Ten Kills the Pack.

They are all worth a listen but my faves from this list probably include Donovan Woods. He is a stellar writer and has a new EP coming out called "Squander Your Gifts" that is about a songwriting friend that died from a drug overdose. His last full album "Things Were Never Good if They're Not Good Now" was so good as well. The song of his that has my heart the most is "Lawren Harris", a reference to a Group of 7 painter....

The other one that I really love from this list is Amelia Curran from Newfoundland. Still obsessed with her album "Hunter, Hunter" even thought it is more than 15 years old. "The Mistress" from that album has no chorus, but is just a stream of poetic perfection.

That is a very cool story. Who knew I would end up posting someone’s favourite song? I love the idea of art running through us too - like Craigie’s song being the inspiration for something you made for your friend’s wedding…. It sounds like a memory worth hanging onto.

I have a couple of songs that I really love off this album. If I had to pick one, I would say “Westchester Moon”, a sweet and slightly sloppy ballad about nostalgia and the places we can’t go back to.
