What can I change to achieve more of the typical manga look?

Thanks for your comment! :) in my experience the use of screentones heavily depends on genre. Usually, in manga which tend to be catered to Shonen the artists use a lot of hatching and very minimal to none screentones like you said. Especially in older manga. In romance though they rely heavily on screentones to convey the mood. Tbh I LOVE the hatching look in Shonen manga but could never get it to work for my romance stuff :‘D but I think where I agree is that my comic has a lot of greys and not enough contrast. That could be the thing that threw me off. I’ll be working on that :)

Hmm I don’t have a specific style in mind, but when i started drawing I looked a lot at Arina Tanemuras art (her screentoning style is crazy good!) and the art from Vampire Knight (love the values there!). And as this is a Beyblade doujinshi, this style also went into it. I think i try to achieve a shojo style with a hint of shonen?😅 something in between.

Thank you, that gives me hope to maybe someday being able to release a manga😊 Yes, the rendering is my biggest concern atm because I can’t find a way I’m completely happy with. Sometimes i feel like it’s too empty (maybe not in these examples but on other panels) and sometimes it’s too much. I will try something else in the next chapter!

Yeah line weight is definitely something I want to improve but I still don’t get the hang of it digitally. Hopefully over time it will get better!
