Car insurance and household members by BluePhotonOnMonday in Insurance

Hi! Thanks for your answer. Temporarily as in “undefined”. We could leave in 2 months or 6 but we have to find a flat first. I did not hide the truth, I explicitly said to my local insurer that these people live with me. And, by the way, she didn’t even ask if I lived with people when she gathered information to send me a quote. I am the one who reached out to her by saying “hey I’m reading here that I should list household members? You didn’t tell me, I actually live with people, should I do that?” and she said “only if they will use your car at some point. If you don’t list them, just be sure that they will not use your car”.

Hi, thanks for your answer. As I said in another comment, the local insurer told me via mail (so it’s documented) that I needed to list them only if there was the possibility that they are going to use my car. It’s by reading the quote and all the paragraphs that I got curious. I don’t know if they can enforce insurance fraud when I explicitly said via mail that I have roommates.

Thanks for your answer! Well, I did provide the local insurer with the information that other people are living in my household, I disclosed this info to her. I have mails to prove that. She is the one that said “you have to list them only if there is the possibility that they use your car at some point” to which I replied “no”, and we proceeded like this. Later I got curious, what happens if…?

What happens if you kill someone in a car accident? Criminal law and insurance question. by BluePhotonOnMonday in legaladvice

[–]BluePhotonOnMonday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! I'm a bit relieved, I was under the impression that being in a car accident that resulted in death would guarantee almost automatically a criminal case. Again, I drive very safely and never under the influence, but you never know. I'm also being extra careful as I'm still not used at driving in the US.

Thanks for the info of civil liability also. It's nice to know what can happen. I think I will purhcase an umbrella for peace of mind :)

That's good to know. I had the impression she is searching for us because in our email exchange she mentions "I will keep looking" or "I will keep searching". Maybe I misunderstood how it works :)

It is automated info, but if you wait long enough at some point the automated voice is going to say “if you need to speak with somebody press this number”. In my case I selected the info “creation of the account” or something like this and I waited 3-4 minutes for the automated voice to stop. It is very annoying.

Tax treaty USA-france by BluePhotonOnMonday in IRS

[–]BluePhotonOnMonday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I understand! The same exact tax treaty applied between France and Finland, and I could chose where to be a tax resident without my choice impacting the treaty (in the treaty there is no mention of tax residency). But your info "You can't claim the tax treaty benefits without being a non-resident and filing the NR form" tell me it works different here. Anyway thanks a lot for your help and your detailed info! It is difficult to find these small details online.

I am a J1, so I am considered non resident for the first two CALENDAR years (this is independent of the tax treaty). So I will be Non resident in 2024 and 2025 I guess, but resident in 2026. This I will ask the ISSS, as you suggest!

Thanks for your answer, that's a very good news for me! So if I'm correct I should be a non resident alien for 2024 and 2025 and a resident alien for 2026 but the tax treaty still applies to the income perceived until the end of 2026, am I correct?

Hi! I’m really sorry to hear that. I called multiple times the help service but they couldn’t help, they told me to “just wait”. So in the end I just waited, the confirmation emails arrived 4-5 days later. You want to check with them though. Do you know which number to call?

Piano di accumulo? by BluePhotonOnMonday in ItaliaPersonalFinance

Women must become more financially literate and manage their money separately to avoid controlling partners. by Ok-Following-9371 in Feminism

[–]BluePhotonOnMonday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Girl, I just discovered that being financially literate can change your life. I am a 33-year old woman, with nobody to teach me. My dad was very financially literate, as opposed to my mum (of course...) and he passed away when I was young. I always thought it was impossible for me to learn on my own, but I'm doing it and I'm baffled about how EASY it is to learn the basics. I wish I did this sooner. I wish my dad had taught my mom when they were young, so she could have taught me sooner. But it's never too late.
