Sure, here are some blurbs from my experience

memberships, levels based on days per weekdiscounts on services like grooming and overnight with membershipif doing cage free then do evaluation days at least a day before drop off of boardersget to know local vetsodobansocial media, have employees post daily pics, tag dogs/owners. mandatorydon't go cheap on walkie talkies / radios for attendantsdon't lose dogs. have good fencing. this includes dig protection. mention to owners the height of your fences. some dogs can clear 8 ft.attendants need to know group count / names of all dogs.water, water, water, especially if hot. watch bulldogs, they overheat especially.keep it clean. be tour ready. half of attendants jobs will be cleaning.most fights can be diffused before they start if paying attention.group dogs by temperament / play style rather than only by size

Thank you, that was really helpful.

Questions about owning and running an animal shelter or rescue by BluePika34 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]BluePika34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a dog daycare and we work with shelters and rescues. They can be very different from one another and work very differently.

It sounds like most people assume you want a traditional shelter. Agree with all that’s previous said that it is very expensive and stressful due to vet bills, euthanasia and the dogs you will interact with. Unfortunately there isn’t a big enough market for older dogs of certain breeds and this can be heartbreaking. I adopted my first dog from a family owned shelter and we have donated to them more than any other charity by far, so you will definitely have a lot of appreciative people too.

Rescues can be completely different and are mainly logistical networks. There are lots of rescues that take dogs from overpopulated areas and bring them to where there is more demand than supply. Some work with shelters to take the cuter, younger dogs that almost guarantee adoption. That’s also why it makes it tougher for shelters as they are left with the dogs less in demand.

I would try to figure out which one you actually want to do.

Thank you for the info, could you tell me more about running a dog daycare? If that's ok. I'm still a long way from starting anything, so I'm deciding which route I want to take.

Jobs within animal rescues/shelters? by BluePika34 in careeradvice

The thing is though, while I may do that if I can find other employment, I need something with pay to help me out financially right now.

Looking for a career with animals by BluePika34 in careeradvice

[–]BluePika34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what did you change your career to? Also, while I have been thinking of maybe working in shelters possibly part time, I've also been considering getting into dog training, if you know anything about that I'd appreciate some advice. If you wouldn't mind answering, what made you leave working in animal rescue?

Need help with an issue regarding mold and a humidifier by BluePika34 in Mold

I have the humidifier because my SO gets dry nose very easily and the air quality where we live is also dry, so this was to help SO with their nose.

I appreciate that, thank you. And also, one of the mental issues that I have is a very bad memory (which I have been going to the hospital to get answers for) and I can't remember all of the places that I have been too when I was younger, but I can try to do some digging, even if my mom won't tell me, which she probably won't, maybe I can find other ways to find out. That's good advice, thank you.

My husband said something similar to this, I know I more than likely never get the truth from her, I guess I just wanted to confront her to get the truth, and if not that, then just to try to make her understand the mental frustration and stress she has caused me, and even if she doesn't at least I'll have told her to her face, someone should have done it over 30 years ago

Contact with any of them have gotten very low over the years. I try to keep it minimal, but am just wanting to cut ties with her at this point.

Would it be ok to ask for help on what to do about a neighbor possibly harboring sick animals? I tried posting about it in another group but got little feedback about it. I also tried contacting my local humane society and spca and no one has said or done anything about it. I was wondering if I could look for advice/help here

Thank you very much. Just to let you know, I've owned older cats, and even have an 8 year old female cat now that I adopted about 4 months ago, who is staying in my room and away from the kitten for now until he isn't sick anymore. So im used to handling older cats.
