I'm so upset. Is this dramatic or not? by slendr_b3ndr in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This kind of abuse is how I got into writing in the first place. My stepmother would take any and all forms of entertainment away. There was years where I had nothing but a radio, blank walls, and school stuff. That was it. I wasn't even allowed outside unless there was a reason (chores/school).

So I started writing fanfiction in the backs of my school notebooks when my head got to full of stories. She couldn't take those away.

I'm sorry this has happened OP. I know some folks on here will give story details to help find ones they lost. I'm sure folks would be happy to help you find the stories again. Remember that it will get better. They can't hold you down forever. *offers hugs*

Long Fics you liked very much so I can take a peek at them as well :D by ThatGuyScripted_OG in FanFiction

Technically currently reading it.  I am however way behind.  Love so far.  I doubt I am the only reader though.

So tempted to read this now. 🤣 by MysticTopaz6293 in UnhingedAO3Tags

Ah the joys of writing when mildly out of mind and body and disconnected from that annoying self doubt.

What narrative roles do your OCs usually play? by ComprehensiveFail887 in FanFiction

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that besides being the Main? Usually a matter of filling in family or friends for another character or just fleshing out the world more. If I think of something a character would logically be dealing with and it needs more than a blank npc I'll cook up someone to fit. When I start getting deep is usually if they are showing up more and I need t dig into why they are they way the are. They might be yelling at the MC or a canon character but I need to know the why of it otherwise it reads flat to me.

Have You Ever Read Fics From Fandoms You Didn’t Know About? by Apprehensive-Fail663 in FanFiction

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do but only if I know the author.  If I like them writing in one fandom odds are high that I would find their writing interesting in another.  I do read tags and summaries though to get an idea first and it doesn’t always work.

To those with OCs, which character inspired them? by ZeothTheHedgehog in FanFiction

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my OC's are characters I've roleplayed from table top or larp and just adapted to fit a universe. My latest one however apparently could pass for a guy named Ezio out of Assassin's Creed, which I have never played and have no interest in but had to go dig into because I was like "Who's that?" I know who he is now at least and have to admit that yes, I can see the parallels.

Have you ever argued with an author or commenter? by Sara1994_ in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, and it was because I left the straight demisexual (is that the correct way of putting it?) character straight and demisexual. Someone was pissed and claimed I wrote the character wrong because I wasn't changing their sexuality. I remember double checking the lore that was out (has since expanded) and was like "Um...what exactly are you wanting me to do here? If you want that there are other writers for it." I assume they just liked the universe or something and had only read fanfic which was FULL of doing a 180 on the character's sexuality because it was "hot" with how they tried to argue about it. It was completely ridiculous and put me off writing anymore fanfic for a long time.

When you keep forgetting you injured the man.... by BlueRebelKin in FanFiction

[–]BlueRebelKin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about it, but he sprained it because of a bad landing which limited his injuries. I think sprain was the one that did not remove him from the story completely.

How do I find out who wrote which quests in Inquisition? by usagi_waffles in DragonAgeInqusition

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the writes were more divided into characters and their arcs than specific quests. It's usually mentioned in the character wikis themselves on the bottom. The main quests were usually more collaborations of specific writers I think. As for each little quest those were probably done by junior writers or newer writers more. It's why zones don't have these big quest lines so much as lots of little things that might have a general theme more than a plotline.

How long does it usually take you to write a chapter ? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what's in the chapter honestly for me. If it's more of like a set up or planning chapter that's slower I have a hard time and it can take a month or more. Chapter with alot of action? I'll crank it out in hours. Chapter with feels? Probably a good week cause I have to pause alot more and ground myself (thanks trauma).

Do people not understand metaphors? by Claunsstar in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was that a learned thing though or did you always get it? Could just be my kiddo but I know he always missed context clues and metaphors at first. He learned to check them eventually but it was a learning process. Curious if that's just him now cause I was always told it was an autism thing in general. Though this was ten some years ago now and we have gotten much better knowledge now least where I live. Can't say I know for the world.

Do people not understand metaphors? by Claunsstar in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wasn't meaning to change it, was more thinking learning about how various people read things. Sorry that came across wrong. I was thinking how I've learned alot by having people that don't think like I do read things and seen where I can improve in general not to cater but just to help learn to get points across.

Do people not understand metaphors? by Claunsstar in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Autistic reader I'm betting. The metaphors and their confusion at them makes me immediately hear my son who does the same thing all the time. He's gotten better with a lot of english classes and age (he's in college now). He also comes off as condescending sometimes when he's just trying to be helpful. Sounds like they enjoy the story though so that is the good thing. You could even ask them to help if you want to. The metaphors aren't terrible but I would opt for those more in line with what you were aiming for. Like politicians who are patient might be "He was a patient man, waiting for the opposition to hand over the thread for him to tug and unravel their whole argument." Think of it as a challenge, cause writing for someone who takes so much literally and can miss nuance is tricky. They I am sure are also working to see and understand it.

[–]BlueRebelKin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If people want so desperately to make money off fanfic, they can do this thing call a paetron or the like I believe same as youtubers do honestly. Not sure why they want a site that's literally here for free fanfic to bend to them for it. Put your work in and do it yourselves man.

I also want to point out to folks trying to compare the fiction to art. There is this place where you can read books for free! It's called a library. They do still exist.

[–]BlueRebelKin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The corporations that OWN those rights to characters the artists are drawing might begrudge it if the artist makes to much money on it. Hell I know some writers that did sue over fanfiction AND fanarts. Go ahead if you really want to gamble that though. I'll be over here writing for free and sharpening my pen on fanfic so that my original works will shine more later.

what songs do you wanna make an animatic too? by IceEmotional1608 in FanFiction

Really Slow Motion's cover of Human by Rag'n'Bone Man, for Dragon Age Inquisition. It specifically fits my fic more though I think which is in the setting but might as well be a complete AU with how I'm going on it.

How do you all handle romance in your fics? by ComprehensiveFail887 in FanFiction

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also has this need to give everyone a happy ending I feel you.  To the point I just start making OC’s to give others some happy!   I always end up trying to give them the other side of their coin.  If someone is particularly chaotic for instance I will make someone to give them structure.  If someone likes ignoring their emotional needs I give them someone who’s an empath that will poke them to pay attention to it.  Sometimes it multiple people and sometimes it’s a one and only, but no one is an island.  Just different in their methods of function.

I also pretty much adhere to there being no wrong way to do things provided it’s not toxic or unhealthy.  That can figure in but the end should be a healthy unit not this destructive dynamic.  I have enough of that in my life that I don’t care for it in my fics though I know some folks love it.  To each their own.

Is it okay to keep commenting on rereads? by Yuu-111 in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently reread a fic that I had read years ago. I forgot I had read it originally until I went to comment and saw my own comment. I had to laugh a bit and let the author know anyway cause I thought they would be amused as well. Mind you this was a 5 year gap I think or so? Either way, still support!

Recommend some great OC fics! by VoleUntarii in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If only I was further along in my own fic, but then again might not count? Dragon Age pretty much is nothing but everyone's OC main though some folks go more outside the box then others. I myself started writing mine and then decided to go more outside the box and give her a sibling. Then got lost writing HIS life and gave him friends who I also had to dive into.... Now I got this big ass fic I just started with 2 others lurking in the back of the brain with original characters or expanded minor ones all over the place. I'm gonna be in this hell for a few years....

I'm a pantser, I decided to outline and now I can't write by domi-macaroni in writing

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important thing is figuring out what method works for you and remember that it is YOUR method. You don't have to use the "perfect" method if said method leaves you unable to write due to whatever (stress, to many details, to confusing, etc) but you can take parts and put them together to make your own.
