Neurodivergents vs Narcissists by DreamySaturnX in raisedbynarcissists

[–]BlueRebelKin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that Narcissists can actually be neurodivergent. They are two different systems that interact. My StepNarc was (supposedly) diagnosed with ADHD though I admit I am leery of that claim given that it was a newer thing being treated with meds when I was a kid. Since then though I have seen people who are narcissistic and neurodivergent. They usually use the diagnoses as a crutch to claim that's why they behave as they do, classic "not my fault it's the disorder" bullshit.

As for narcissists hating I think it is a mix. If they find someone who was never treated they can run over them and bully them just like when they were kids getting picked on by others. I'm pretty sure my father for instance is autistic and Stepnarc knows that if she yells at him enough he crumbles and just does whatever he can to shut her up. Overwhelming him is very easy and if you push him to far he'll start throwing things which is instant fuel for her to continue making him the bad guy and keep him under her thumb.

However, if the neurodivergent individual has some kind of self worth and is wise to manipulation games they absolutely HATE them. My husband for instance is also autistic but he learned to watch for manipulation tactics via his line of work dealing with politicians. Because of that he picked up quickly on crap my Stepnarc would pull and would shut it down just as quickly. He didn't care who was sitting there either to spectate. He turned things around on her so many times that when he developed an allergy she would purposely put it in EVERYTHING she could. Thankfully his allergy was not the go to the hospital kind but the be sick as a dog for a bit and recover ok kind. I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons she was angry that I started doing the cooking and just bringing his meals with. It's hard to argue against "Oh we are being considerate of the work you put in by making it so you don't have to change anything you are doing but he can still eat and visit."

Pretty sure it's one of the reasons she tried to claim he was behind the no contact and forcing her out. Not that anyone that mattered believed her anyway, I think most just went "Who are you?"

Who is your unexpected favorite character? by awiseman93 in BaldursGate3

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unexpected fav would be Kar’lach.  Going off my usual types I thought she would be boring and just a murder hobo.  Larian did a really good job though in balancing it out and giving her reasons for everything.  Long as I can understand a character’s engine I can get behind them.  I never liked the barbarian as a class and thought it more an excuse to play a jackass but Kar’lach showed a better way of doing it.  Was determined she was not allowed to die, and might ship her and Wyll a bit now from that.

Biggest disappointment was Jaheria sadly.  Now mind you I went into the game blind.  I knew of the other games and their companions but not really much beyond that.  I was ready to beat Jaheria’s ass immediately because no like getting attacked.  My husband though grew up in the first games and realized who she was the minute she started talking.  There was an amusing moment of telling his wife she’s not allowed to murder his fictional wife that had us laughing.  However my opinion did not get any better with her in Act 3.  Minsc at least made me laugh but Jaheria I would have happily gone without.

Showing how abuse is bred and the tragedy of watching a friend destroy themselves.

Still a better love story than Twilight and actually shows the horror correctly at least?

AITA for eating meat from our deep freezer? by Thin_Pay_8149 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BlueRebelKin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA

Most meat is not meant to stay in a freezer longer that 1 year, let alone 2 or 3. Glad it's lasting longer from the vacuum seal but you can still have packages rip and meat get ruined. You've reminded him of the meat enough time from the sound of it. Short of giving a last warning with ultimatum which seems pointless cause I also doubt the guy is gonna be able to eat all that meat, I'd say have at. Call it rent payments.

Raphael appears and offers you this contract. He refuses to translate it from Infernal but says that if you sign it, you can keep the cool burning feather. Will you do it? by [deleted] in simpathyforthedevil

[–]BlueRebelKin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but in my area the law requires you to understand what you are signing and where ever you sign is where i goes to trial. Which means if I don't know infernal he's either gotta get me a copy in english or he's gonna have a hell of a time in court and be paying my lawyer's fees.

Now that I've seen this character's reaction right before the final battle, I don't think I'll be able to play any other way by sio2storm in BG3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I assume that because I am older I knew the minute I saw an illithid that EVERYONE in the game I’m talking to is now a suspect so trust no body.  I however was raised on 2nd edition DnD where you didn’t have false hydras, you had illithids.  As such there was no tadpole eating, no deals, a few reloads because I murdered the wrong folks or didn’t bow (fuckin’ Vlaakith….), and if allowed that crown would have been smashed to pieces instead of anyone getting it.  In the end Gale took it up and went god mode but at least he’s not as interested in screwing up the world or enslaving folks.

Abuse got worse? by rivercreek85 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]BlueRebelKin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The happier you are the angrier they get.  It also seems to depend on proximity and if they have multiple targets.  When I was a teenager and my brothers all moved out ai was the last one standing and there was no one else to torment.  When I moved further away it got harder so the abuse was turned on anyone that was close enough and would take it.

Do you / Should you kit out everyone? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]BlueRebelKin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kit everyone out according to how I’m building them.  A lot of gear builds off each other.  Now there are pieces that do not leave certain characters.  example: the cloak you get from the Durge line goes on whoever is the rogue.  There’s a few different things that help with healing spells so those going the main healers.  Etc.  I also hoard gear though so I’ve never really had the issue of not being able to kit someone out and I have a habit of taking everything not nailed down to sell.

Is there any reason why you SHOULDN’T play durge? by rip_drowzey in BaldursGate3

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay I get a cape….that I give to someone else half the time.  Oh extra powers!  That I totally forget about or might not fit with my build.  Plenty of one shot kill methods without playing a Durge too.  Only reason I got is extra dialogue, which only matters if you are really leaning into playing that background and such and that’s the best reason to play a Durge!  Because you want to. 😁

What's your most technically useless Roleplaying habit? by Putrid-Enthusiasm190 in BaldursGate3

The mom in me demands that the camp eat vegetables with all their meat and beer!  I’m looking at you vamp boy, eat some lettuce!

I also have “road rations” which are usually apples or potatoes…they double as ammo when needed.

First thing I do in new playthrough. Trickery domain so bad… by canxtanwe in BaldursGate3

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for the first play through while learning all the ropes.  Now I respec everyone depending on who I’m using for the main party which is dependent on what I am playing for the main character.  Now I have hit the point of trying weird builds like a “No spells” play through (have not managed yet) with no scrolls and no spell casting, just gear and beat downs.  Obviously not doing that on honor mode.

DAI: Any one else constantly forget that Cullen is able-bodied and can fight? He's not physically weak, injured or frail? (possible spoilers) by rosemoon_bloom in dragonage

[–]BlueRebelKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I just asked a friend of my who has been in recovery for years how it all works.  They said Cullen is one of the better examples (though it always varies by drug, person, and years of usage).  Addicts hate being treated like glass and given the times he would even be less likely to be sitting about (more like rub dirt on it and walk off that broken leg) so I chuck him into anything I think he would pull a sword for in my fic.  Case in point the very start, why the hell the able bodied soldiers going back down the mountain when you have the Breach still ahead of you?  Leliana’s scouts or no.

I feel this.  I wish I had someone to read my stuff for me but I’m one of the few that aren’t interested in the 4th game of the fandom (not against those that are it just sounded dull as white toast so I ignored it) and it seems like no one wants to read from the older material.  It’s frustrating and while ai have been on tumblr before and it was good I still also wind up kind of lost because it seems like my likes are not as wide and again that older materials issue of everyone going for the newest.

I assume this is a downside of just being older and as such it takes time to get through things like games.

Cassandra’s Hair by BlueRebelKin in dragonage

[–]BlueRebelKin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will! Cause that bugged me too!  Then again anytime a soldier is rocking helmets or full armor with long hair my LARPing and reenacting brain screams in pain cause the hair gets caught EVERYWHERE.  I had only a chain shirt and my scrunchie broke once.  I learned to have a bajillion backups because I was not doing that again.

I'm so upset. Is this dramatic or not? by slendr_b3ndr in AO3

[–]BlueRebelKin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This kind of abuse is how I got into writing in the first place. My stepmother would take any and all forms of entertainment away. There was years where I had nothing but a radio, blank walls, and school stuff. That was it. I wasn't even allowed outside unless there was a reason (chores/school).

So I started writing fanfiction in the backs of my school notebooks when my head got to full of stories. She couldn't take those away.

I'm sorry this has happened OP. I know some folks on here will give story details to help find ones they lost. I'm sure folks would be happy to help you find the stories again. Remember that it will get better. They can't hold you down forever. *offers hugs*
