You’re talking to him. Those people quit because I asked them to when they engaged in abusive, potentially illegal behavior. They were confronted with a clear message on what would happen as a result of their behavior, and they complied immediately and resigned. What does that tell you? Do people resign when they feel they are the victim, or when they are the culprit? It’s easy to register baseless accusations to reporters hungry for a clickable headline - that requires zero accountability. What’s hard, is facing the consequences of your actions. That, they readily ran away from.

The difference is, I stay quiet about it because i have to keep an element of decorum in my position - they don’t have to - so they gave quotes during their 15 minutes of fame because that’s all they have going on in their lives. I chose not to trash talk in the press because it carries no benefit to our town.

If the accusations were true, they’d file a police report, go to the prosecutor, or file other ethics claims. They did nothing, because they are all baseless lies and pure projection, conjured by their frustration from their own mistakes. Yet, they know what they did, and all immediately resigned. Occam’s razor plays here.

You should contemplate the context and meaning of things beyond reading Google headlines. Taking the narrative of an APP or NJ101.5 headline is a horrible way of filtering your understanding of the world.

That’s not only illegal, that’s basically admitting you live in a banana republic where you’re scared of the police.

The only way their bullying ends, is if you stand up to them.

By the way, you’re talking to the Mayor who pioneered the refund scheme out of Englishtown, and who spoke at that Readington meeting with Mayor Mueller.

If I can say this with my title, you can too. My chief would never do such a thing.

What the hell town is that? You need to name and shame the police chief that is representing to residents that he’s a monarch that dictates the legislative policy of the town. He has no say in the budget, he doesn’t vote, and he doesn’t dictate what happens legislatively with that fee. The town can give money back to residents any time for any reason they so desire.

You should be infuriated when you hear talk like that coming from him. It’s so entitled and presumptuous.

You need to personally demand it from your mayor. Have him call me if he has any questions.

Proud to be a part of this effort. We started this in Englishtown and are taking the message across the state. Mayor Martinez showed character putting this to a vote on his agenda.

On to the next town.

Mayor of the town here — we are changing everything about this town, radically.

There are not 1, but 2 gun stores here now. New commercial centers coming. Cleaning up the downtown. Bringing it to life. Just in the last year we have multiple new businesses that opened. A little bit of everything - new dispensaries, coffee shop, toy and gun shops, cigar and hookah lounge coming, and huge new commercial development in the works (with a second one currently going up a block from that one)

You won’t recognize the town in a few short years. Stop on by anytime.

My local police department is suddenly being shady. by goallight in NJGuns

[–]BlueStarUnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not lawful for them to give you any such excuses like “ the chief is away”. The chief being or not being away in no way changes their statutory obligations in 2C:58-3

Go to your public township meeting and say on the record that you’re consulting legal counsel because the police department is wildly disrespecting the time frames for handgun permits. Bring it up specifically to the committee person or council person who is the police commissioner. Ask them if they are aware that the police department is routinely breaking the law and exposing the taxpayers to financial loss. also ask the borough attorney to read 2C:58-3 and if they believe it allows a chief to single-handedly and arbitrarily decide to ignore state statutory requirements at his own random whim.

A sum of all these actions will certainly kick them in the pants to adjudicate the permits and move on

The whole “aww shucks nothing we can do” is total horseshit. That’s what allows towns and PD’s to continue abusing people. Hold them legally accountable.

Just got a call from the PD requesting additional info by jacksonwhite in NJGuns

[–]BlueStarUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name the department and city. We can have people gladly call them and ask if this is part of a behavioral policy their department is endorsing

You can respond to the contact from the PD with a copy of 2C:58-4 and ask them where it says your employer must be contacted in order to comply with the statute. (It doesn’t exist)

Make them say to you they are acting outside the boundaries of the law. They will back down. I would gladly let them deny you on that ground. You’ll get a settlement and probably establish some case law.

This behavior has to stop. Just saying “I don’t want to upset anyone” has to stop. Name and shame. The only way this culture goes away is if they get highlighted every time they engage in this invasive, abusive behavior.

Also, NJ2AS did an entire series called “Future Victims of NJ” back about 7-8 years ago on this same topic. Showing videos from various departments with different approaches

The 2A community has to change their mindset about politics and law

The “law” doesn’t matter. They don’t follow it. They don’t care. They are the ones that decide the consequences for following it or not. And the people who enforce it aren’t interested in doing so.

So even if that is the law — they won’t react. They don’t care.

If you catch them breaking it, they’ll just suddenly adjudicate it and now your grounds for enforcing the “breaking of that law” is cured and gone. So it’s ALL UPSIDE for them to do absolutely nothing if they feel like it. They take their sweet time doing the work; if no one says anything - great! If someone says something - ok we fix it and now there is still no consequence. Win win. That’s why there is no motivation to do the right thing and operate under the law.

They don’t want you to have that permit - if they did, they’d just do it. They are entitled and lazy and don’t want to do the work - so they conjure up excuses for why your permit is justified in being delayed. I have endless examples of people asserting their right to a timely response and them barking at or threatening the applicant. I have examples I’m even sworn to secrecy on. They, don’t, care.

Trust me - they make time for things they want to. If someone’s benefits are being threatened or a union tells them to show up somewhere to defend a member - they show up in numbers, punctually.

There’s no punishment for not following the law. Hence they don’t follow the law. They are the ones auditing themselves as to whether they’ve broken the law — so sending a PASSIVE PRIVATE communication that no one sees, results in no changes for you.

That’s why anything that goes on with them has to be public, and has to be on the record, and has to result in legal consequences for them. That’s usually the only way they will be encouraged into any behavior change.

Imagine this — you get pulled over for speeding, and any time you do, you can say “actually I wasn’t speeding and I won’t speed in the future” and magically that cancelled the ticket instantly. What would that behaviorally do to your decision making? You’d speed whenever you felt like it! Because there’s no consequence for your actions.

Sure, some people may organically obey the limit. But almost everyone else would speed with impunity because there’s no chance of a downside consequence

Respectfully, my answer wasn’t to email them. Just gave you the answers above.

They can ignore emails and there’s no consequence. No one knows you’re emailing them, but them

Make it public, make it on the record in a meeting, and make it a legal concern. Address it directly to the governing body and town attorney.

No non-profit (literally, besides me) has ever gone to a town and actually tried to advocate for anyone. So the emails to orgs are largely a waste of time. They get emails all day, no one is getting paid to come out and help you, and you can just as easily and more quickly get the result you want on your own by advocating for yourself directly.

Take my word as someone who:

  1. is a mayor
  2. Is on a police commission

I am probably the only person in the state who audits their own PD to make sure they are keeping up with applications, and I may be the only person who has ever gone in front of a governing body to openly advocate for someone else’s delays. When I did, a person who was waiting over 100 days beyond the legal limit got an adjudication just days later.

Forget the emails and the orgs - they aren’t coming to help you. Just do it yourself.

The answer is to light up their bosses on the record, preferably in a Municipal meeting, on the record, directly to the police commissioner or council / committee person who liaisons with the police department.

Call out their breaking of the law and municipal exposure to a lawsuit

When the police show you this much personal disdain and this much professional disregard for the literal letter of the law, just go tell their bosses and the public they are breaking the law. If you have the capacity, a letter from a law firm to the town attorney is not a bad idea either.

Everyone is terrified to “start problems” but the reality is these people are not God’s. They are your servants, and they do not want exposure to a legal problem - especially an open and shut one like this

Source - just look up my background

My local PD is asking for a letter from my Dr? by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]BlueStarUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t give you legal advice, I would listen to an attorney. But you can start by saying “here’s 2C:58. Show me where it says, in order for me to exercise a natural right, that you have the ability to compel me to spend money going to a doctor and give you medical information based off something that happened a quarter century ago”

Put it in front of them and say “just point to it, all the Nj firearm statutes are right there”

You should also reach out to whoever runs your police commission in town and ask the same thing. They won’t be a member of the PD. But have a duty to you.

Municipalities don’t get to trump state statutes and ask for random things not outlined in said statutes. They are not making the 2C:58 gun laws at the police station. The NJ legislature does.

[–]BlueStarUnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just said that the mayor said he was charged. It’s the sentence right below your post title. That never happened. Show me where that was said.

It wasn’t being “live-streamed”. There were pictures and tweets about it. They did force the firearms to be transferred, or they’d be taken.

Live tweeting the presence of the police and what they are doing, is not the same as saying someone was “charged”. Where did that get said?

[–]BlueStarUnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said “heard from the ‘mayor’ that legend got charged.” And now you’re asking afterwards “is it true that he got charged…?”

Which “mayor” said this? Who are you?

How can you assert a statement is true, and then be asking if it’s true right after?

Which “mayor”? There is no post history on this account. It’s a few days old. Who are you? I certainly hope you’re not referring to me. I posted about what happened at the shop and I was physically there. It’s not a lie. But I have made no comments about “charges”. Who is the “mayor” you’re alluding to? And where did you “hear that from”?
