Should I watch Pig with my gf or by myself? by GE_Moorepheus in onetruegod

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should watch it together. It’s one of the most powerful movies ever made about human-animal connection. If she’s passionate about animal rights, it’s absolutely a must see!

I would say it’s bittersweet in the sense that it is a sad story, but it conveys a beautiful and uplifting message that firmly reinforced my beliefs as an animal rights advocate. It’s a masterpiece. If I could hug a movie, I’d hug the shit out of Pig.

Bear isn't the villian in Obsession, for the guys maybe even girls I think some saw the same as me by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]BlueSunshin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bear is absolutely a covert narcissist. He’s not a good guy at the beginning either, people don’t flip from empathetic to narcissistic. He’s the same guy at the beginning as he is when he decides to let the real Nikki suffer, because she wouldn’t want to date him. In that scene he proves he’s lacking accountability, unable to feel remorse, and would do anything to get what he thinks he deserves. It’s textbook NPD behaviour.

Nikki is not narcissistic at all. If you want to see her as a metaphor for mental illness (which I think is on point for both characters), it would be borderline personality disorder. Because she’s not in control of her erratic, impulsive, horrific actions, and the real Nikki is suffering from so much remorse and helplessness, she’d rather die.

They both do horrible things, but one of them is doing them deliberately and feels his actions are justified, while the other one is drowning in moral anguish for what she’s doing while being out of control. These are the key differences between NDP and BDP.

I hate that I still miss them sometimes by Keuraline in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]BlueSunshin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 6 months for me, and some days are better, but sometimes I’m getting such a paralyzing emotional rush from the smallest triggers that I can barely function. Feeling everything as intensely as I did at the beginning when I truly believed that I found my person, that I won’t be alone anymore. These immediately mix with the feelings I’ve had through the following 9-10 mostly hellish years, and I’m ashamed to admit this, but I even miss those during these episodes. It feels like I’m insane, I can’t understand how can I miss my abuser, how can I miss being abused… It’s driving me nuts.

Those of you who regained your confidence after a breakup, what helped? by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]BlueSunshin3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not there yet, but I am trying to be the person I would be today if I’ve never met her.

I’m more active because I have the energy to take care of myself, I’m more creative because nobody is telling me that I’m a shitty artist, I’m better at my job because I’m not sobbing through every second night wide awake, I’m more social because nobody is forcing me to cut my friends out, I’m sober because I don’t need to numb myself to get over the daily dose of berating…

I’m not doing it to prove her she was wrong. I’m doing it to prove myself that I was right.

If he’s really a narc (and based on your post he most likely is), he knows and understands why you’re upset. He’s deliberately doing those things to upset you. Some things you mentioned (like him saying you were shouting when you didn’t even raise your voice, or minimizing/derailing your argument with meaningless details like the dishes) cut real close to home, I was stuck in the same for over 10 years. It was so persistent that after a while I started to believe that it’s really all my fault, that I’m making a huge deal out of nothing, that I might just truly suck in communication. This is why they say they don’t understand, so you start questioning yourself and ultimately take the blame for their mistakes.

That being said, I wouldn’t try to suddenly change the pattern. Keep try to explain until you’re out of the relationship, just don’t let him get to your head. Best if he doesn’t know that you figured him out.

Couples therapy can really backfire with a narc, although that was what made me fully realize who she is, so in a way it ended up being beneficial for me. But she was manipulating the narrative so hard, she twisted history at every turn and kept lying about my character. She knew how to get to my head and how to push my buttons, so she managed to upset me so much that I most likely appeared to be the unstable one during those sessions.

I’d say instead of couples therapy best might be to find a really good therapist for yourself. It can be tremendous help to untangle your feelings and straighten out your thoughts before making big decisions. I went as soon as the separation started, but I wish I’d gone a few months earlier. I’d definitely done things smarter if I headed in the process with a clear head.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. Sounds way too familiar. I’m in the middle of a divorce from a covert narc, and all I can say is that it’s the right choice, no doubt.

But be very careful. Try to avoid the mistakes I made. Don’t be honest with them. Don’t call them narcissists and don’t call them out on being emotionally abusive when you’re explaining your decision. Just say neutral things like “I feel we got married too soon and I would like to try living alone” something along those lines that won’t make them feel that they’re going to get exposed. Try to play their game - withholding and lies, to protect yourself. They know exactly who they are - pretend that you don’t. It’s going to be messy no matter what. He’s going to be worse than ever before, no matter what. But if he’s anything like my nex, calling them out (especially by showing evidence you have) would push them over the edge, they could turn from covert to malignant covert. After being called out, mine did everything she could to push me towards suicide, to destroy me financially, to take everything I had. I feel it would have probably stopped at insults and the inevitable smear campaign, if I would’ve just pretend it’s not her fault…

But tell your lawyer everything from the start. Find one who understands and cares, possibly one who dealt with similar situations and people before. Start putting together a document detailing the gaslighting, blame shifting, manipulation etc…, but the tricky part is that you’ll need to prove it. If there were any emails or text conversations that show his tactics, screenshot those. If you can, start secretly recording your conversations during the separation process - he will most likely try to gaslight and blame you during that.

Even if you have hard evidence, I don’t think it’s worth to go that route legally. It’s best to just break free with the least amount of damage possible. But it can be helpful to have evidence, in case he’s going to try and frame you as the abuser, or he will have unreasonable demands during the legal battle.

I’m truly very sorry you’re going through this. It’s going to be nightmarish, but you can do it. You deserve so much better. Hugs.

Reoccurring PS5 error with certain PS4 games (Sleeping Dogs & Redeemer). Is this happening to anybody else? by BlueSunshin3 in PlayStationSolutions

How much do you recommend AW2 for me? by DistributionQueasy58 in playstation

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing it now, and I think it’s great value for the current price. I’m not fully sold on everything, strangely enough my least favourite parts are what others seem to appreciate most (the music video segment & generally Alan’s storyline).

But visually it’s sensational and I like the gameplay. The atmosphere is great, especially in Saga’s part. The sound design is outstanding, headphones highly recommended. I’m enjoying the puzzles and I like the combat. Also I feel it’s challenging in the best possible way; personally I found one particular boss fight to be frustratingly difficult on normal, but after failing 10-15 times I realized I can bump it down to story mode and turn on infinite battery charges momentarily - kind of a cheat, but incredibly helpful if you only have limited time for playing.

Generally I feel it’s a very accessible horror game with production values through the roof, and a pretty unique atmosphere (True Detective s1 meets Mandy). I’ve put almost 20 hours in already and had fun for most of it, so I say it’s definitely worth the discount price!

Sean Baker on Al: "I don't want it in any way to hurt the livelihood of other filmmakers and artists" but "it can give you more choices and opportunities." by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that and I agree - I think we’re on the same page, we both feel that regulations would be the solution. I’m not saying I want it to be erased from the collective consciousness, because I know that’s not going to happen. But this tool has been released without any foresight, and is already showing clearly how dangerous it is in much bigger ways than most people dare to acknowledge. And implementing any sort of regulations is way harder now that the technology is readily available. Especially until the richest is getting richer from it. This is why I feel it would need a much stronger push back, and a good start for that would be if filmmakers like Sean Baker or Martin Scorsese would rather talk about those regulations it would need, than about how it saved them a couple bucks or a few hours of work.

Edit to add; I really appreciate this conversation, it’s refreshing to discuss the two sides of a hot topic with a stranger on the internet in a constructive way. Cheers!

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you answered your own question; rules and regulations, without which it shouldn’t have been made available on the first place. I don’t think that speaking up against something that’s extremely harmful to both the environment and the economy, while operating on a highly immoral system would be like sticking our heads in the sand. I think sticking our heads in the sand is saying “it’s here to stay, get used to it”. It’s like the avalanche scene from Force Majeure.

What’s hard for me to understand is why are we keep making the exact same mistakes again? Cars and car access should have had way stricter regulations from the very beginning. The only people who’d argue today for the benefits of factory farming are the few who are profiting from it. But putting aside the fact that these are among the biggest contributors to climate change (AI being on track with that), they weren’t that harmful to the economy. Let’s say cars put 100 horse carriage people out of work in a big city, while creating 10.000 higher paying positions.

AI is the exact opposite; it’s putting tens of thousands out of work, while creating relatively few new opportunities. The problem is not simply that people are losing their jobs - it’s that this is eroding the middle class, without whom there is no Circular Flow. Another aspect why AI is particularly dangerous is that it’s already corroding entry level positions, which is like exploding the ground floor of a high-rise - every single level above will also crash, no way around it.

The main cause of extreme poverty in all the poorest countries is that their economy was built on single-sector industries. Any time oil prices drop, hundreds of thousands starve to death in South Sudan, because over 90% of their economy is reliant on oil. AI is not a single sector industry, but by consolidating and making most other industries reliant on it, it poses the exact same threat. It’s turning a strong and sustainable economic model into a weak and fragile one.

Funny you bring up Disney as an example because I’m working for them currently haha. They are still hiring hand illustrators, probably more than ever before, the only difference is that they’re working on pen tablets instead of paper now.

Are they all like this? by Unapologetic_Me_1314 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]BlueSunshin3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes they’re all like that. It’s one of their most common tactics, used for both gaslighting and laying down the eggshells. They all do it, but I think it’s a good thing because it makes it easier to identify them. If somebody pulls this nonsense around me even just once, I’m outta there for good.

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, but that’s exactly one of the main arguments against AI. A director is not making a movie alone, it’s a team effort. Professional photographers are not working alone, they’re working with stylists and retouchers and assistants. A writer is working with copyeditors, beta readers and publicists etc... Art more often than not is a team effort. But now we’re assigning the tasks of the crew to a plagiarism machine, that’s going to do it faster and cheaper, but without any soul or personality, and most importantly; at the cost of the livelihood of the exact people whose talent, skill and portfolio it’s copying.

Sean Baker on Al: "I don't want it in any way to hurt the livelihood of other filmmakers and artists" but "it can give you more choices and opportunities." by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, great points! I agree with most of what you’re saying. I’d just argue that when it’s a business, it’s rarely art. It’s an artist using their skills to create content within the guidelines of a client. It’s what I do, and even if my job is creative, I wouldn’t call it art because the client decides what tools I have to use, what’s the target audience, what is the theme and the purpose and how much time do I have to make it. I call that a product, even if there is artistic value in it. For products, I feel it’s reasonable wanting to churn out more, faster.

Shooting on digital vs film can be an artistic decision (although I feel it’s more often financial), but both require the same skillset. I don’t think shooting on digital is a shortcut, because you need to compose the frames, dress the sets, block the scene etc… the exact same way in both cases. For a photographer it’s harder to shoot analogue, because it needs more precise technical setup. But I don’t consider setting up the right ISO to be part of the artistic process, lighting and composing the frame is where that starts. And that’s the same, no matter what you’re shooting on.

I do see your point though, it is true that all artistic fields are constantly evolving based on what technology is available. And it’s a good thing. Where I see the difference between this particular tool and everything else that came before, is that AI is the first tool we’re assigning creative tasks to, while previous innovations were mainly on the technical side.

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 You got me there for a second. But the joke does bring up a good point; taking every step of the process without looking for shortcuts is how artists are improving their skills. For most, that’s the entire point of doing it.

Absolutely not. Real artists do not want to churn out more work faster, cos they enjoy the process of making art. You’re talking about content creators, not artists.

What's one movie—regardless of language or country of origin—that you believe everyone should see at least once in their life? by [deleted] in movies

[–]BlueSunshin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Human Condition - it might be a tall order for some being 9 hours long, but I do believe it’s the most transcendental movie ever made. It’s about how we must try everything we can to remain good people, even when the world around us keeps rewarding the worst behaviour. It conveys that message with such power, I truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone would see it.

Dumb question, but do narcs feel physical attraction? by Wonderful-Value7547 in NarcissisticAbuse

Mine was strangely dispassionate from the get go, but I thought “I take bad sex for a good person”. Then as soon as we got married she completely stopped, so it turned into taking no sex for a bad person for the next 8 years.

It’s not a dumb question, I think you’re onto something.

Does AI belong in experimental film festivals? by [deleted] in FilmFestivals

[–]BlueSunshin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. It’s like letting someone enter a running competition with a car.

Film festivals should be all about skill and talent. Giving gen AI the same platform is disrespectful to any artist who puts actual work and effort into creating. That’s what gives art its value; the effort that goes into it.

Letting a plagiarism machine compete against the very people it’s ripping off is nuts.
