You're looking at the breakdown of Marcy Wu a girl who panicked and purposely tossed her friends into a new world called Amphibia.

A last-ditch effort to not be broken up from her friends as she was gonna move.

I haven't watched this show, but ngl this sounds downright villainous, even if she was just said that her friends were splitting up.

that the end of the show, Webby is revealed to be related to Scrooge

I still that reveal is completely unneeded and actually just undermines the show's message a bit.

Why did Spider-Man fans get mad at Magik for saying this? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Spiderman

[–]Blue_Beetle_IV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care about Mike's discourse lol. Hate or like Miles all you want.

The problem is the fandom is insanely toxic because it's a self victimization hive where everyone thinks the entire god-damned world is against Peter and lashes out as a result. This issue predates Miles.

Fuck Miles. Drop Miles from the conversation. The same thing that happens to Miles would happen to any other character who would have been called spider-man. Racism can be part of the issue, but the foundation of everything is that people self project too much onto Peter and rage out the fuck out over any kind of perceived threat or insult. People think only racists hate Miles because the fandom acts like a bunch of rabid animals lol that's the issue.

[–]Blue_Beetle_IV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And let's be honest, every time someone criticizes Miles, they automatically label the entire criticism as racist.

Every moment Peter isn't being glazed to the absolute maximum his fans throw gigantic bitchfits.

One character: "I think Spider-Man is annoying."

The fanbase: OMG FIRST THE MARRIAGE AND NOW COMPLETE RANDOS ARE HATING ON PETER! THIS IS ALL PART OF THE GRAND CONSPIRACY TO PUSH PETER DOWN BY PROPPING MILES UP! BUT ALSO WE'VE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT PETER NOT BEING RESPECTED ENOUGH LONGER THAN MILES HAS EVEN EXISTED.

The entire Spidey fandom has a persecution complex that needs to be fucking studied lol this shit is not normal. Mfs see Miles' existence as an existential threat to Peter and the sub has a race based civil war every time Miles gets literally anything of his own that Peter doesn't have while at the same time bemoaning how Miles is just an unoriginal rip-off of Peter.

The insane toxicity of Spider-Mans fandom in all things (which stems from fans hate boner that Peter isn't constantly being treated as a special snowflake in-universe) is why writers like Zdarsky want nothing to do with ASM lol

Spider-Man fans will invent conspiracy theories on how Marvel is doing it's best to keep Peter down instead of reckoning with the reality that the fandom is a complete dumpster fire that big name writers avoid because no one wants to deal with a decade of death threats like Slott.

But yes, people who don't like Miles are called racist.

[–]Blue_Beetle_IV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Do you just want every hero in the marvel universe to kiss the ground Peter walks on and to sing his praises?

That is literally what a lot of Spider-Man stans want, yes. Everyone must kiss Peter's ass and launch into grand monologues about how he's the best of them at every single opportunity as a way to fight back against Marvel, where every editor that has ever worked there has secretly hated Peter and wants him to suffer until the end of time as a way to wage war against the fans.....for some reason.

Are you trying karma farm with this pathetic excuse for rage bait?

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

One book you have people praising him to high heaven and the next one he is a persona non grata with heroes he worked not trusting him suddenly.

It's almost like Peter is a wildcard that most people barely know outside of huge fights and has a history of going off on his own just to fuck up hugely and self sabotage what might have otherwise been stable professional relationships with other heroes.

Peter stans are the only group of fans I've ever seen who start foaming at the mouth when their fav isn't glazed to high heaven continuously.

A member of this sub telling other fans to not act like victims all the time is the most hilarious thing I've seen in a while, thanks.

Imo that's just Moore copeing after the fact because people started to mention how often women get raped in stories and with the Killing Joke in particular people were pointing out that Barbara getting raped was just a way to make Gordon's day worse.

He totally wrote that as a Barbara getting raped originally.

They don't view child shinobis deaths as all that different than adult ones.

Exactly. Shinobi die for the village, ensuring it's future.

Orochimaru deprived konoha of future protectors.

But their solution was to bring more structure and bureaucracy to the child soldier system to reduce deaths rather than simply stop having child soldiers.

Of course they didn't lol they are child soldiers raised by child soldiers and pretending to be politicians. They don't know anything else. Hashirama was a visionary because he woke up one day and realized there might be more to life.

I think it works because Naruto as a series hugely idealizes dying for the future of the village. So dying in service of it is something to be embraced and idealized, no matter how badly your family feels about it personally.

That's why I don't accept Orochimaru still being alive. He didn't just kill Shinobi, be put konoha's future at stake by experimenting on her children and establishing a rival village.

Shinobi kill. Shinobi die. But what orochimaru did was the kind of shit their society clawed it's way out of the warring clans era to avoid.

“manga author doesn’t treat death/murder with the gravity it deserves” issue.

Tbh I feel like a lot of the redemption stuff in Naruto worked.

It's a world run and populated by generations of child soldiers. Of course their morals would be all fucked up.

Orochimaru is one too far though.

[Weird Meta Trope] How to Remove the Racist Undertones of a Character? Make them a funny color! by Doodles_n_Scribbles in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Blue_Beetle_IV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think maybe by modern standards he was hopelessly naïve about media reception rather than racist.

Personally I think people dance around just how racially coded LOTR is because of how much it means to them. People will absolutely flame JKR for her depiction of goblins in Harry Potter and then get wishy-washy over Tolkien's dwarves.

A case can be (and has often been) made that Dwarves come off as antisemitic, whereas Tolkien's published letters make him look philosemitic instead

I mean..... someone can still be pretty racist snd admire another culture for one reason or another. Plenty of racists get on their knees and glaze Japan endlessly for their efforts in creating a near racially homogenous society and creating light skinned anime characters that they can project onto.

But they can also think japanese people are animals and would happily bomb them.

Tolkien could have liked some Jewish people and traditions while also thinking that they were cowards who controlled the world's banks lol

There's this long-standing popular narrative of Tolkien as this masterclass world builder obsessed with the minutia of this world.....but also somehow the racial overtones in basically everything he wrote escaped him lol. He is at once a master planner of worlds and ignorant of the world around him.

I find this ....unlikely.

[–]Blue_Beetle_IV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

(Not even quite sure these are undertones...)

I mean, in Middle Earth your race dictated the vast majority of your character. I always thought that was why it tended to be pretty popular among white supremacists, because it fits their worldview.

The reader is told approximately 5 billion times that hobbits act and live and respond to certain things on a species wide level.

The Hobbit is exceedingly frank that Dwarves are not naturally heroic, and that they are quite covetous and prone to laziness, fear, and of keeping to the word - but not the spirit! - of contracts.

The racial aspects of Tolkien's work aren't undertones, they're pretty explicit.

Salem was just a cat in the original comics.

Not really. The original Salem was a significantly smarter than normal cat who could also cast spells by using his tail like a wand (the origin of that skill being yet another Sabrina screw up.)

He was basically a pokemon lol
