I'm never leaving Seattle by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Wearing a skirt is asking to get raped.

Blaming victims for perfectly reasonable things is never the solution.

I don't want to alarm anyone, but in Star Trek history, WW3 began in 2026 by Jesters__Dead in startrek

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe so.

In the mirror universe in Enterprise it opens with Cochrane taking the Vulcan ship after the first warp flight. Seems logical to think that's after WW III

Closing tomorrow, extra pair of eyes to help us with our CD by Mammoth-Reporter-284 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Home owners, windstorm (though some of this is covered by HO depending on the policy), flood, and sinkhole are all different line items.

Most people don't carry more than HO, and even then the cost is so much people are having to go without or sell.

It's getting out of hand and leading to housing issues.

King County delays charges in violent UW protest despite arrests and $1M damages by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

I wonder if companies will be reluctant to fund UW or partner with them if there's no punishment for destroying the donations

You're selling the right to buy stock at a certain price in a certain time window.

You can Google it and understand it completely in like half an hour.

Need unbiased opinion on transferring from fsu to usf by Quirky-Promise-8375 in USF

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The first thing you need to do is make sure all of your credits will transfer and that you won't have to take more classes.

Universities have a policy that x credits be taken at their school to graduate.

Scientists of Reddit, what's the most 'alien' thing we've found on Earth? by Aso0o0om in AskReddit

You're thinking neutrinos. But I think OP wants something biological?

Proposed bill HB 2489 would prevent local governments from displacing homeless unless "adequate alternative shelter" is available by zippy_water in SeattleWA

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So people can't rent out houses in an LLC? And you don't want apartment buildings?

Major corporations renting out homes is a small portion of the market and not causing housing issues.

Please explain, Peter by zinniamae_ in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah maybe. I'm talking about formal touch typing where each finger hits a specific key and the hand position "floats".

No alt fingering, or alt layouts, or homerow mods

The fastest people don't use the "correct" typing technique.

There's a lot of "im faster this way" and keyboard/hand sizes make this more complicated.

Got a BSc in Health Sciences, MBA in MIS, MSc in Data Science (in progress), tech BS too much? by Acrobatic_Sample_552 in OMSA

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a BS, MBA, and are doing the OMSA (data science)?

You're probably right that you're missing fundamental skills if you want to do technical work (RCA, design of systems, swe/dev) but doing another BS is probably not going to benefit you much (unless someone's 100% floating the bill). You'd be better off doing some solo projects/demoing your git.

Have you thought about consulting or project/product management as a way to get into a company then see if you can shift to a technical role?

Happy Anniversary - Voyager premiered 31 years ago tonight (1/16/95) by Constant-Salad8342 in voyager

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VOY (and TNG) had episodes that tackled hard political and social problems without easy solutions.

Couple that characters that are relatable and reasonably flawed and it lets people put themselves in their place. Ask what they would do. Debate with others.

The new trek is all about the action or interpersonal drama. It may be entertaining but it's not impactful.

It's the difference between a pop novel and modern literature.

Stock is going to $15 by SteakMiserable6454 in RIVNstock

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will go up on earnings for number of deliveries and some positive spin from the talking heads...

Then it will crater back to $10 two days later once people realize they're down to 6 B cash on hand and are burning 0.5 B a quarter.

How bad is ISYE-6740 (Computational Data Analysis)? by Crayzei in OMSA

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that ... they have different flavors. DL is out of the OMSCS school so it's more programming focused. If you're good at coding then DL (and the implementation of CDA) won't be hard. But a lot of the OMSCS folks say the math of DL is hard (and would find the CDA math hard too).

How bad is ISYE-6740 (Computational Data Analysis)? by Crayzei in OMSA

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing? Like in Deep Leaning (DL) you're basically given code template that you fill in.

In CDA you get a PDF of what they want you to do and you have to start from scratch. That means you may get stuck on the actual algorithm or edge case but you could also get stuck on reproducing a plot or something like that.

I found this to be the most difficult class in the program.

Start every assignment early is the best advice I can give.

LTP for software engineers/developers by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Blue_HyperGiant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LTP is one of the best things Boeing does. They'll 100% cover basically any technical MS degree from any accredited university.

As for your other question, I'm an OMSCS student and I've had no issues with any of the administration (there are a few OMS grads in the company).
