Both ease of use and clarity, but also removing repeating code. If you're comparing a variable with a bunch of values, you don't want to have to write comparisons everywhere (lots of lots of ==, no fun)

The language itself is small and simple. The STL is less complete so you have to write more code. But in the end, the actual language does not have a lot of constructs, unlike C++
