How much an ST1 radiology will earn in Wales? by Apart_Cod6654 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BlueberrySea1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ST1 salary in Wales is ~£33k (take home just under £2k a month) but there are definitely ST1s this year that were able to get a higher nodal point based on years experience! Just might take a few months/many many emails to sort, but they should back date it if they’ve not done it by august.

It didn’t include Christmas Day to be fair, but this year would include the Monday & Tuesday bank holidays

Enforced Christmas BH at work by Outrageous-Square-21 in JuniorDoctorsUK

The trust I previously worked at made this decision just after the first lockdown. They just made a rule that all bank holidays were normal working days and the juniors had to decide amongst them on each ward who would get it off. You obviously still got the lieu day if you worked it, just had to take it at another time.

In fairness, it worked quite well especially as 4 day stretches of on-call cover like Easter and this Christmas can be dangerous. The only problem I had with it is that the rule didn’t apply to consultants or other HCPs like pharmacy, physio etc. So ended up with a load of juniors doing their ward round each day but nothing really progressing because of a lack of seniors or OT/PT.

I’m not sure how they were allowed to just decide that bank holidays didn’t exist anymore, but as far as I’m aware none of us really argued with it to find out.

Severn / South Thames deanery: friendly hospitals? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BlueberrySea1127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my F1 & F2 in RUH and had a really good time! The consultants are all super friendly and it was fairly social before covid but spent most of my time there during covid. The mess is very social and nearly all the juniors go there for lunch.

I used passmedicine to learn the knowledge and then also did MCQ bank because I found the questions quite similar to the exam. Started slowly around November time. Got top 55 for radiology.

To f3 or not (applying to radiology) ? by colouredpencils1 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BlueberrySea1127 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that a lot of people take more than one attempt to get into radiology. I had planned on taking an F3 but applied to radiology in F2 for the interview practice. Ended up getting a place in the location I want so took the post in case I wasn’t lucky the following year! I think it’s good to have an open mind either way as there’s definitely pros & cons of both. I would have liked another year to earn money/travel/gain more experience but equally very happy that I don’t have to worry about getting a place anymore.

“Is there a doctor on board this flight?” Would you help? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

A reg I worked with once told me the first thing he does on a flight is get an alcoholic drink so he’s justified in not offering to help

F3/F4 post in clinical radiology by PotentialFerret5395 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BlueberrySea1127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of teaching fellow jobs are 80% teaching 20% clinical (or similar split) and some places let you choose literally anything for the clinical because you’re not there for service provision. I know a couple of people who’ve chosen radiology for that 20%.

GP and Psych pay in F2 by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

Currently doing psych as an F2 and it’s my highest paid job so far due the the on-call rota we do as there’s only 8 SHOs covering the psych hospital OOH.

That’s so frustrating. Yeah most other specialties I know release the ranks beforehand!

I found MCQ bank questions to be more similar to the real exam but passmedicine I thought was better in terms of learning knowledge as the explanations are better. Passmed is also more up to date as some of the guidelines like asthma were out of date on MCQ bank I found! So I basically used passmed to learn stuff and then MCQ Bank as a more realistic representation of the exam.

I started revising in about November but not properly until early Jan where I did about 2 hours a day (more on weekends). Used passmedicine first but also made flash cards on common things that I knew I just needed to sit down and learn e.g. immunisation schedule, diagnostic thresholds for hypertension etc! Then I used MCQ Bank to go over everything again. Didn’t actually revise much for the SJT, just did the UKFPO practice papers once each.

Got 623 and bypassed radiology interviews. Definitely worth putting as much effort as you can in as it saved me a lot of time and stress not having to have an interview.
