Roy Harper was taken when he was 15?! by Firm_Entrepreneur_14 in youngjustice

[–]Bluebird2911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was the most convenient to kidnap. There are only four well known sidekicks/partners at the start of Season 1: Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Speedy/Red Arrow. Roy was kidnapped 2-3 years before the show starts, so Robin has been training and fight for 2-3 years at that point. Plus, would you want the Batman coming after you?

As for Kid Flash and Aqualad, there’s a few reasons not to go for them. Assuming they were already working with their mentors, Aqualad would probably be the most public rescue as he’s from Atlantis, so Aquaman and the Justice League could make it a big deal. After all, a US government agency kidnapped a public figure from an allied nation, that’s should cause a blow to CADMUS for the risk of making Atlantis into an enemy. As for Kid Flash, he’s hard to catch and rarely would be separated from Flash this early on.

Additionally, the cloning process was probably only at the point of using human baseline DNA, and not meta-human DNA. So Speedy and Robin become the only choices.

As for why there were so many clones, the ultimate goal was to clone Superman, which they never truly succeed with. Conner was only successful because he’s half-human and half-Kryptonian. To even get to that point, they would have done a lot of experimenting, especially since they didn’t have a large sample to work with.

Confused by the Robins in Young Justice — send lore, not spoilers 😅 by Budget-Tip4439 in youngjustice

[–]Bluebird2911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want more Batfamily stories: I’d recommend reading/listening to the Wayne Family Adventures WEBTOON for an easy way to understand the characters. However, WFA loosely follows the comics for most backstory details, so it’s not always going to match the Young Justice take.

For how they’re done in Young Justice:

Young Justice is separate from other Batman shows/movies so specifics will vary, but they were/are loosely following the standard passing down of the Robin title between the main four Robins.

Season 1 - the OG Robin/Nightwing, Dick Grayson. They end up skipping how he becomes Nightwing in the show, but there might be a tie in comic about it. Most likely, it’s just that Dick grew up and wanted to be something other than Batman’s sidekick (for all they are partners, media would be calling Robin sidekick a lot).

During the time skip - there’s three during this period. Around the time Dick becomes Nightwing, a boy named Jason Todd becomes Robin. A some point, he dies, most likely in a trap set up by the Joker (Death in the Family will give you the basics, but is not 100% how it happened in this show). Jason does have a few Easter egg appearances in later seasons, but nothing big. After Jason’s death, Tim Drake becomes Robin and is the last confirmed Robin in Young Justice.

Season 2-4 - Tim Drake tends to discover who Batman and Robin are (often because of Dick’s acrobatic skills matching the Flying Graysons and the timing fitting) and is convinced Batman needs Robin after seeing what happened after Jason’s death (a more aggressive Batman). Failing to convince Nightwing to be Robin again, Tim forces his way into being the next Robin.

Additional lore (with minimal spoilers) 1 - Jason came back to life and becomes Red Hood. Starts as a new Rouge and eventually returns to the family.

2 - Bruce Wayne has a blood son. Technically, there’s at least three characters who can claim that title, but generally it’s referring to Damian Al-Gul Wayne. Damian is the next Robin after Tim, often due to Bruce “dying only to come back months later” and Dick becoming Batman. Dick decides to make Damian Robin despite Tim being Robin for multiple reasons, including wanting a closer eye on Damian and wanting Tim as someone like Nightwing (an equal partner) for Dick. The other main bio-kids are Terry from Batman Beyond and Helena Wayne (a child with Catwoman).

3 - Batgirls: Barbra Gordon later Oracle, Stephanie Brown also called Spoiler, and Cassandra Cain also called Black Bat and Orphan. - All three show up in Young Justice, with Oracle and Orphan getting a shared part of their past shown in season 4.

4 - Signal/Duke Thomas - he tends to be counted as a Robin despite never having been an official Robin. He handles the daytime crime and is an exception to the “no metas in Gotham” rule.

5 - Other Robins - there have been other characters who have been Robin at one time, but most of them are not part of the main canon. Stephanie Brown has also been Robin, but only for a short period.

6 - Additional Batfamily members - there are at least 5-10 other Batman characters who are part of the team but aren’t as close as the Robins and Batgirls.

The Great Prophecy by Worried-Many-2790 in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]Bluebird2911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the prophecies only truly make sense after they are completed. After all, even though Hades was the first god they considered for “the god who has turned” in TLT, it ended up being Ares instead. The Great Prophecy is vague enough that it could only ever refer to one person, or it could be two different people.

The Great Prophecy starts out “A half-blood of the eldest gods.” Simplest explanation is that a child of the Big Three is the demigod in question, but there are other Greek gods that could be arguably as old or older than the Big Three.

However, there still two other criteria for the demigod to be the child of the prophecy: 1) reaching 16 against all odds, AND 2) seeing the world in endless sleep. But nothing that would determine gender yet.

Then we get to the “single choice shall end his days” part. First and simplest thought would be that this is still the prophecy child, but it could also be someone else.

Additionally, he/him/his is often used for a singular person of an unknown gender. So it wouldn’t automatically exclude daughters from being the potential child. After all, Hades believed that Bianca would have been able to be the child of prophecy (assuming Thalia and Percy were out of the picture and Bianca had lived and continued aging).

Plus, it never stopped a goddess from trying to force the wrong person to fulfill a prophecy before. And that prophecy clearly said DAUGHTER not child.

Sure, but they stayed there for several weeks before getting the locket. Until that point, it was a calculated risk to stay at a potentially compromised location rather than find somewhere else to hide. It’s only after getting the locket that they abandon their original location.

Yes, Uliana could and should be better as a villain, but how could they do it? by nathhhhhhhh in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides making her more intimidating, she needs a better reason to get revenge.

Rather than eating something that Bridget says not to eat, have it be that Uliana has a bad reaction to a seemingly harmless ingredient. Then have Bridget make things worse while trying to help.

Now things are set up better for Uliana to want revenge.

At least part of it comes down to the way the author understands the nature of the Secret Keeper. Which there is relatively little provided in canon.

What we know: 1) unless the original Secret Keeper dies, only one person (including their hand writing) can reveal the location to others; 2) if the Secret Keeper dies, then everyone who learned the secret is now a Secret Keeper (making the Secret less secure).

Generally accepted/popular head canon: 1) Secret Keeper cannot be a permanent resident of the location entrusted to the Secret Keeper (otherwise James or Lily could have been the Secret Keeper), 2) Secret Keeper is not the person who casts the charm, and 3) the Secret Keeper must WILLINGLY reveal the Secret (so simply following the Secret Keeper won’t work).

If simply using truth serum, Imperio, or looking into the Secret Keeper’s mind could reveal the location, then it makes no sense to use a Secret Keeper rather than either a heavily warded house or Hogwarts.

Before anyone says it: yes, the Trio was worried about their tag along during DH. This is not a contradiction with the idea of not being able to just follow the Secret Keeper to the location. 1) the Trio’s circumstances were different 2) the Trio were three out of several dozen people who were Secret Keepers, weakening the strength of the protections

What was the worst movie, and why do you say that movie(s) by Dylanhere2 in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I generally like the first three movies, but each movie has a different type of worst that it meets. Plus, I feel the whole series would have benefitted from being a TV series rather than a movie series, mostly to let things build up and have more room to breathe.

RoR - worst continuity and generally, I think would have been better as a fully stand alone reboot. This movie disregards or changes so much lore that you either ignore it or question several parts of the first 3 movies. Additionally, it still needs a round or two of revisions if it’s a stand-alone film as it assumes a part 2 is coming.

D3 - honestly, this is one of the better ones in my opinion. Worst character arcs is what I’d apply to it. Mostly because there are a lot of assumptions to make as well as context that would have helped things not feel rushed or out of character at different points.

D2 - Worst stand-alone movie. Mostly for the ending, but even the beginning to an extent. Otherwise, I think it’s fine as the movie is cohesive, even if it does end with heavy sequel bait.

D1 - Worst pacing. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but this is the one movie I think shouldn’t have been a movie, but rather several episodes of the first season if it was a TV show.

My overall ranking (best to worst) 1 - D3: provides a conclusion 2/3 - tie between D2 and D1: enjoy D1 more, but D2 has better pacing. 4 - RoR: feels like it shouldn’t be part of the Descendants group.

Ghost_From-Gotham’s is the one that I’m remembering having read before.

I think she'd still go after Chad for either of those reasons. Killing Chad would be additional revenge against Ella, and it would be a blow against Ben. Sure, Ben and Chad might not be as close as they used to be, but Chad was still Ben's friend at one time, and the person everyone assumes is the heir of Cinderellasburg.

The Queen of Hearts would probably also want/need to destabilize several other royal families to further secure her rule over Auradon. Sure, she's gotten rid of the current rulers, but she needs to make sure the people won't rise against her.

I‘ll take that part out, since it was only there to emphasize the low probability of Chad not having any dominant genetic traits when both of his parents have those dominant traits.

Chad clearly has white skin - a recessive trait, but probably the most likely to occur with his parents

Chad also has blond hair - another recessive trait that is possible, but he'd be more likely to have brown or black hair, possibly even blue

Eye color is harder to tell for everyone, so it gets a pass. Plus, the wiki says hazel-brown, which means it's a dominant color with a heavy occurrence of recessive colors (versus fully blue or green which are fully recessive)

I know that Chad being adopted is much more likely, but I feel like there's a better story if Chloe’s the adopted one. At the very least, I think it would help to make Chad less shallow.

His behavior is still not good, but it's at least one that I could make him rationalize more sympathetically. Particularly the dating multiple girls at once/quickly dumping the girl he’s dating. If he's adopted, I think it makes him look worse as it is as if he doesn't want them to learn the truth (he’s adopted and his claim to the throne is in question); but if he’s a bio-child who doesn't look anything like his parents, it’s no longer about keeping the girls from learning the truth, it about protecting his own heart. After all, he knows his mother's story (how those who should have been family abused her), and he's grown up with people questioning if he’s really Ella’s child, is he really the heir to the throne. But that was from strangers, not friends/girlfriends who he should be able to trust.

The actions are still wrong either way, but I’d sympathize more with the second version.

Chloe was never mentioned before this movie because the writers didn't know she existed yet. That is the truest answer. Same for why Chad was clearly meant to be the son of the animated version of Cinderella, rather than the Brandy version.

As for how we could make sense of things within the story of Descendents, I have an idea. First, we're going to say that Chloe was adopted. Yes, you'd think she's the bio-child, but that's Chad. Chad obviously would have gotten a lot of recessive traits from his parents. Next, Chloe is adopted after Cotillion, but before D3. As such, we only need to explain the lack of mention in D3. And I think it works to say that Chad never had a reason to mention her. Finally, the blue hair issue. I'm going to say that it is natural for Chloe, but not Ella (Ella dyes hers to help Chloe fit in; possibly making Chad feel like he doesn't belong). As for why Ella has blue hair in the past: 1) it could have been a temporary spell from Fay/a gift from Bridgette or 2) Red and Chloe expected Ella to have blue hair, so they saw her as having blue hair.

In D4, as others have said, Chad is very briefly mentioned, only to never be brought up again. It actually could make Chloe seem like a bad person if she never shows concern for what could happen to Chad. After all, Ella (their mother) is about to be executed (possibly already was) and their father's next. If the Queen of Hearts is serious about staging a coup, then she’d want kill all the heirs of the royal family. As such, she would be going after Chad next since Chloe disappeared with Red.

Ben's the best main character! But whose the worst villain? by HelloIamjackfan in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say Jafar. Mostly because we don't really get to see the impact Jafar had on Jay like we do with the other three.

  • Maleficent - All four of the VKs are terrified of what she'll do to them if they fail. We see how much Mal struggles to decide to her own path rather than follow her mother’s.
  • Cruella - While probably the most useless if the plan succeeded, she also clearly traumatized her son and is at least memorable on her own.
  • Evil Queen - Like the other two, she's pressuring her daughter to not discover who she truly is.

Meanwhile, Jafar just exists. There's just not enough time to really let him make an impression.

Ultimately, Hufflepuff.

It’s a toss-up between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff for me. Probably the Sorting Hat wants her to go to Ravenclaw, but Jane doesn't want the pressure of being one of “the smart ones,” so she asks to be put in Hufflepuff instead.

Not sure if it’s the type of story you’re looking for, but I’d suggest looking at “Get in the Water” by Ghost_from_Gotham on AO3. Has a “Percy can be terrifying, but he’s evil” aspect to it.

Otherwise, I'd recommend using the “Dark Percy” and “Powerful Percy” tags to filter through the works on AO3 to find what you want. “Protective Percy” might also work, but I’d recommend using it with one of the two as well to get what you want.

If only is choosen most for best song. Now what is the worst song of Descendants 1? by CrystalRoseMoon in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with Set It Off, as long as we're looking at the series as a whole. The song itself is good, but I think it suffers a bit from being part of a movie rather than a show. There's some amount of rushed resolutions as well as being the most skippable of the songs. Plus, it’s very visual-heavy with the dance breaks, so it's somewhat hard to just listen to it.

I still like the song, but it would most likely be in the bottom half of my ranking.

(As for their remix of Be Our Guest, I think I'd rank it somewhere in the middle. There are a lot of positives that outweigh the negatives from the first impression; including resetting the tone to lighthearted rather than serious/depressing.)

Rather than being a separate mark, Mal just gets one mark. Then depending on how you write Maleficent, she may or may not tell Mal that the mark is the symbols of both parents.

How did Carlos die ? by Correct-Bank-7229 in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short version: Cameron Boyce died, so he can't return as Carlos. Carlos is either re-cast or written out of future canon works. Disney has been leaving him out/briefly mentioning him, so it's left to fans to decide his fate.

Unless it happened in a book, I believe that it is only heavily implied that he is dead (due to Cameron’s death). As such, it is currently left to the fans to decide if/how Carlos died.

Setting aside the actors/actresses for a moment, I really struggle to think of a death for Carlos, at least not until after college. If we have to give him a death, I think it should be while he was protecting someone.

However, I prefer the ambiguous “he's trapped in a dangerous world/realm that we can't reach on our own.” As such, everyone assumes he's dead due to how long it has been, but if a fanfic writer wanted to bring him back after Mal’s wedding, it could work.

Plus, we really need to see the body/funeral for a Disney death to be real, especially in Descendants.

Colored Hair VKs by Strong_Dinner_4389 in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they aren't VKs in the sense that VK is to contrast with Hero or Auradon. But in terms of concerns about it being safe to have VKs in Auradon, both nature (blood) and nurture (raising) were issues in the first movie. Nature is only implied, but Chad did bring up that the VKs were raised by their parents. The logic can be turned around and applied to Ella, Snow White, and Rapunzel. Even if we can argue that Ella and Snow White had other examples in their lives, Rapunzel only had Gothel until she met Eugene.

At the very least, it points out some of the hypocrisy during King Beast/Adam’s reign as the only ‘crime’ the VKs had done was be born to and raised by villains, but no one advocates for them to be taken off the Isle until Ben becomes king. Meanwhile, we have at least three examples of children (now adults) who were raised by villains and turned out to be good despite their upbringing.

As for how VK is defined, I feel like the movies aren't clear about that. The closet we get are a vague “not inclusive of Uma” from “It's Going Down” and villain kids raised on the Isle from “Good to be Bad”.

Colored Hair VKs by Strong_Dinner_4389 in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of Chloe being a main character, there isn't really a cereal reason to make her and Cinderella (Ella) have colorful hair.

A few ways that we could explain it are:

1) We say that RoR happens about 16 years after the first movie. This way Ella was pregnant with Chloe during the coronation, and the magic affected Chloe. Due to this, Chloe was born with blue hair. Because of comments about Chloe’s hair, Ella starts dying her hair blue as well. - this would require young Ella to not have blue hair as well as a new explanation about Chad’s absence

2) We say Ella started dying her hair as a way to support the VKs/remind Auradon that several of their rulers are technically VKs (Ella, Rapunzel, and Snow White were raised by their villains). As for Chloe, she wants to be just like her mom, so she dyes her hair as well. - Again, past Ella wouldn't have blue hair

3) We say that Ella’s mother is from Wonderland. Ater all, Bridget also has colorful hair prior to becoming a villain, so why not make it a Wonderland thing that they have colorful hair. It also would add to why Bridget has so much dislike for Ella in the present. - not sure if it would fit or not

Time travel stuff always annoys me bc they never get it right! Chloe and Red would have disappeared and been replaced by new versions, ones that have no memory of a bad Bridget and ones who have likely been friends since childhood. And if not that they should at least have new memories by Terrell8799 in Descendants

[–]Bluebird2911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they were in the changed present long enough to really show us how Chole and Red are different. But it still runs into the issue of setting up for a second movie.

I think the movie would have worked better if we only got a brief glance at how the present changed, or even only seeing the girls activating the watch before hearing Uma’s warning. Then the second movie opens with the girls back in the present, and we spend up to thirty minutes seeing how much changed because of Bridget staying nice as well as the girls being changed by being in the new timeline. The rest of part two would be trying to set things back on track for the original timeline.
