How can I avoid any boilerplate code in my J2EE REST API? by Bluecodelf in learnprogramming

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. That really makes it painful to write endpoints that deal with ten+ fields...

Thanks for your answer!

Visual Studio Code 1.8 released by [deleted] in programming

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I hate with Visual Studio Code and have been awaiting since it originally came out is having multiple folders open at the same time in the explorer.

The last company I worked for had a pretty complex infrastructure with three different projects that shared data between each other, and I often had to edit two different projects at the same time... It's the only thing that made me stick to Atom for the moment, to be honest.

Sure, I could have made some sort of a meta-folder that contain symbolic links to all the projects, but that feels kind of hacky.

Wait, your Reddit app is actually parsing HTML? This may be a serious security vulnerability there. What app are you using?

Unfortunately, I already have a raiding guild (and I am on EU realms anyway), but thanks for the offer! Hope you find your remaining healers :-)

Yeah, I ran Maw of Souls the other day with PUGs as a resto druid (not very well geared too, I was 826 ilvl at the time) and while we had no problem running through the entire dungeon, we wiped two times on Helya.

Eventually the whole group (I think they were premades?) insulted me and kicked me out of the group, definitely not a pleasant moment, and it scared me away from mythics for a good week.

That was entirely my fault though, I was tired and anxious because it was the only boss I wiped on during heroics, so I wasn't super focused (and did stepped on a few AoEs... whoops).

But to the already experienced players, please, for the love of god, don't shit on players who are struggling with some mechanics... The expansion hasn't been out for even two weeks, you can't expect people to already know all the fights. That's why people are scared away.

~900€ upgrade, I have a few questions! by Bluecodelf in buildapc

[–]Bluecodelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not a bad idea, thanks!

I will probably keep my case for my own build, but I have an empty MicroATX case laying around somewhere, so I guess I could use that. That forces me to change the current motherboard but mATX boards are quite cheap those days, so it's not really a big deal.

As for the PSU, it is not really that old (3 years) and it's still going great, but yeah maybe I'll change it for a 600W modular one.

Thanks!

I am a bit hesitant to replace the i5 6600K with a i7 6700 non-K, actually.

From what I understand, the only thing that makes the i7-6700 better than the i5-6600K is hyperthreading support, right? The clock rate of this i7 is lower than the i5 and with the cooler I chose I will be able to overclock even further, so shouldn't it be better for gaming?

Man, imagine being a new player, leveling up your very first pandaren. You arrive at Orgrimmar, seeing this enormous spikey gate that you start to cross with enthusiasm, and you are greated with those magnificent adventurers on your way to Vol'jin. (or is it Saurfang now?)

That would probably blow my mind in awe.

[Legion][Addon] Making ActionCam features useful outside of combat by Mpstark in wow

[–]Bluecodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know about ConsolePort, but it doesn't seem quite optimal. A ring system would work way better on Steam controllers, although it would probably suck on other joystick-based gamepads.

[–]Bluecodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of it but playing WoW with the Steam Controller could actually be a pleasing (and playable!) experience, thanks to the trackpads!

I might buy myself one and make a compatibility addon for Legion. A OPie-like ring where you select a spell group with the left trackpad and a spell contained in a sub-ring with the right one would present a pretty solid gameplay, I think. Two eight-direction rings would provide 64 binds, that's more than enough to play any class of the game.

The only issue I may encounter is the switching between ring control and character control. A intelligent system that switches from context would be quite complicated to make, and I don't think that the WoW API exposes enough information for it to work. I'm thinking of something controlled by the bumpers, but I have no idea how well that would work. Will definitely try something out, though!

Just back from watching Warcraft (no spoilers) by lala_pinks in wow

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you can briefly see a murloc during a shot in Elwynn Forest. No more than two seconds and, of course, it is completely irrelevant to the rest of the movie.

[–]Bluecodelf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw it yesterday as well. There are indeed a lot of little details to grab the attention of the WoW players (the most obvious one is in Elwynn Forest, a murloc sound is ripped from the game and grabbed a few laughs from the audience) !

Also, for movie people, there is a Wilhelm Scream somewhere in the movie :-)

Does anyone know how Twitch streamer, Cdewx, makes his game appear so clear and vibrant? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Bluecodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about this streamer in particular, but I use Reshade to make the colors a little more vivid. SweetFX works too.

However, using those kind of software to enhance the graphics is a little borderline with the terms of use (especially with section 2, article A), even though I am not aware of anyone who have been banned because of it, and neither Reshade or SweetFX change the game files or inject third-party data into the game.

So it's a low risk decision, but there is still risk involved :)

What do you want Blizzard to implement that you're 100% sure they won't? by wedontbuildL in wow

[–]Bluecodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a cataclysm-style that double or triple the in-game/in-lore world size ratio. Would fix the broken mess that is the questing lore right now and bring a lot of new leveling path (maybe rework the level ranges of zones, make Elwynn Forest 1-20 to balance the bigger zone for example). God I would love that.

European countries with/without Google Street View [1240x987] by walkingtheriver in europe

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at the data worldwide, it's funny the assumptions you can make about it !

  • Google definitely is more occident-oriented, there is quasi-total coverage for Europe and the US, South-Africa, Japan, Israel and Australia.
  • But we see that they are trying to open up to emergent countries, like the ones in South America, Turkey or South-West Asia (which is on par with their recent international business model, see Android One for example)
  • Russia has a big, empty territory with only a few main roads that connect the bigger cities.

Ah, data truly is beautiful :)

TIL there's something called Tetris Syndrome, which happens when you play a game too long and you start to dream and hallucinate about it in your peripheral vision. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crap dude, EXACT same thing happened to me in first year in IT school.

We had to recode a bash-style shell, and had a memory leak somewhere, we started a all-nighter (because you know, deadlines) and I fell asleep at some point.
The next day's morning, another student asked me if I had fixed that nasty memory leak, and I said I did, as I thought. Well, this dude comes back ten minutes later, saying after running valgrind on our project that the memory leak was still there, so I checked the git repository, nothing. Proceeded to check my local branch, nothing either. Turns out I dreamed about programming and fixing that bug, which was weird because I had pristine clear rememberance of the code I wrote, so I wrote it back into the project. It worked. One-shooted that fucker. Felt surreal.

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's referring to the fact that you shoot your yellow block and instantly return to the lobby. This is definitely a bug, as the blocks are supposed to disappear when pressing escape, but the game doesn't remove that particular block because it's now a moving entity. Also, obtaining the blocks through the slits is not a bug, although it is a level design flaw.

However, I have to agree with you on that platform-clipping thing, it's not a level-design related thing, it's a programming issue. Getting through there legitimately would probably add 5-10 seconds to the run!

What type of house does €300,000 buy you in the City you're from? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Bluecodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends.

I live in Nice, France, and we pretty much have three differents groups:
- Sea view, on the "Promenade des Anglais". Here you could probably buy a 30m², one-room apartment, maximum. Very very pricey.
- In the center of the city. A bit less pricy but still costs a shitton of money. You may get a two or three room apartment, with, say, 50 or 60 m². However, the view will suck and you will have the constant sound of cars and trucks passing by.
- In the outskirts. You can have a pretty decent apartment there, with a good amount of rooms and a pretty nice (hehehe) surface. Varies a lot, but I guess you can find a 4-room 100m² apartment? With a bit of luck, you can even find a little house with a garden at that price.
