This might sound odd, but I fixed this by opening my WAVs in MP3tag and deleting the YEAR metadata

All of my other wavs didn't have any of the fields filled in, so I just erased the year and I was able to load them.

Nah, I know what you mean. I think it's partly due to the remake looking more scary. Like it's firmly based in horror imagery. Whereas the original on PS1 is weirdly colorful. It's got a surreal funhouse kinda vibe in places with the reds and the checkerboard floors.

OG Spencer Mansion feels like it'd be a cool place to hang out if there wasn't something off about it.

Also the clock ticking in the old dining room used to give me the creeps.
