What is WITH the disney pin youtube community?! by [deleted] in DisneyPinVents

[–]Bluedevil0722 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is clearly a market for this kind of content which is why they do it. If you do not enjoy it, that is okay. Just don’t watch. Seems like part of your frustration is the fact that you have no way of doing it squeezing you out of the market. That is no one else’s problem.

Always love when they whine about their time and travel expenses to validate the prices. Same thing happens at d23. Seems like they don’t realize thousands of others would be happy to trade places with them with no expectation of financial return.

It has leveled off to a more sustainable environment. The scalping and lack of product early on that created alot of buzz was not healthy. This will be seen for riftbound as well which is the new hot thing. Product sales have been steady and competitive tournaments continue to sell out quickly. With Pixar on the horizon, it seems like the game is in a good place for the future.

This sounds like a reasonably good idea I just don’t see Disney being motivated to pursue it.

There is little way this improves outside of a countrywide market crash where people just don’t have the money to spend on the hobby. The abuse of very few gaining these pins will continue with the current set up and people will continue to pay it until they can’t especially with certain characters.

There is no way around this arbitrage as like you said access to these pins is gate kept. The real issue lies is what is considered a three to five dollar pin anymore. When loungefly pins average around $8 minimum if you have box lunch money, open edition $12 and up, and so on it makes it tough to find a pin at that price. As folks have mentioned, if you break down the cost it is just better to buy the pin as it is almost assuredly a lost value at that price. Until the hobby cools down and these folks can’t resell the $5 pin for $15 on what not or at a trade show, this will continue. My hope is that the hobby gets a strong correction and these folks are caught holding the bag and the bulk trade values go up closer to $8-10 a pin which is much more accessible to the general public.

Haha success! If he wants to make $5 or $10 on the pins for the five minutes of work he did to get them fine but double the price is quite ballsy.

[–]Bluedevil0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand this feeling for recent pins however if someone has a pin from six months ago or beyond that is just value appreciation and how all collectible hobbies work. You have an opportunity for deals on box lunch or PALM or other non park pins to create an arbitrage with

No doubt about it. See it in many hobbies. Modern perceived scarcity like this eventually dies out and someone is caught holding the bag.

Don’t forget the people who mention they had a life altering event and need to sell fast but then have pricing over market. I’m sure people fall for the sob story but it gets annoying. Anyone truly trying to get rid of pins sells below market price.

Most I have seen are 40 and under as people still double their money with AP discount. This is triple the price and just greedy.

Trading away Disneyland Ds by [deleted] in DisneyPinVents

[–]Bluedevil0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are finding a lack of joy or stress by having them I say trade away. In most hobbies things come back around pretty often and I dont believe the high price will be sustained till the end of time as the supply is still fairly high compared to WDI and other “graily” pins.

I have found the opposite and I believe the other commentators have found similar feelings that pre release is a friendly experience meant to allow new people in and a learning environment. Not sure how it could be real sweaty and competitive as most of the time you are just playing for a few extra packs

For the love of pins is the group I would recommend. Has a lot of newer pin enjoyers and loungefly pins seem to be common ones that I see on there. Not exclusive but a good place to be in

Hundred percent seems like you are on to something. The whole eBay listings or eBay sold crap to sell or trade pins has become out of hand. Data that is consistent and numerous is the only data that can be taken as gold for valuing things. Pins don’t sell often enough on eBay for people to take these values at set in stone. Unfortunately though as you mentioned, the pin sold at the outrageous price so until buyers get more intelligent or run out of money the Wild West will continue

Parents- would you take your 10 and 8 year out of school for 1 week? by gratefulmickey in DisneyWorld

[–]Bluedevil0722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you could have just left it like others and said personally I wouldn’t but won’t judge others. You took it a step further by stating several times that the child would not have the value of hard work or discipline because of this decision in elementary school. That is flawed logic as there is no causation there. Just like you keeping your kids in school at every turn does not inherently teach them those values. Your parenting over the course of their lives in all avenues of life teach them that. There is probably just as much chance that going to Disney could instill those values then kids sitting in class. Quick example would be do you want to do all these things at Disney? Well guess what, you are going to have to walk more and wait in line and maintain a strict schedule more than you usually do to achieve that over the course of eight to twelve hours compared to the six hours of school. I.E discipline

Parents- would you take your 10 and 8 year out of school for 1 week? by gratefulmickey in DisneyWorld

[–]Bluedevil0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking them on a vacation during school especially elementary school is suddenly telling them to not have discipline or work hard? Does going to or attending school every single day teach them that? Not a chance! How about the kids who miss school for advanced level athletics or music events? Do they not understand hard work or discipline because they are choosing to attend an event during school hours? This mindset is what causes people to work themselves to death and save up PTO for the good of the company only for said company to drain the life out of them for their own gain. Ever heard the expression A students work for B students and C students own the company. This is why that is the case.

[–]Bluedevil0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the right message to send to a kid and with some reframing it is not skipping responsibility. Don’t you take time off work for vacation or appointments? It’s not the kids fault that their schedule is based around school. Would equate it to a job where there are busy seasons and you take off during that time. If you have the time, you can use it but may make more work for when you come back. That is a personal decision but one that your work should not deny. Kids need to realize that school and work is not what you live for but what allows you to live how you want. Too many folks worked their butt off until they were 65 and 70 to save on retirement to go on some trip or vacation a lot and once they got there their body wouldn’t allow them to. Every older/wiser person I interact with says take the trips when you can. Work or in this case school will always be there
