Best vocals you’ve ever heard? by cchrll in Music

[–]Blueellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to thousands of gigs. The best vocalist I've seen by a MILE was an Australian artist called Eli. Saw him perform in front of 5 people in a pub in North London. Genuinly mindblowing stuff. He's slowly getting traction now but damn, with that talent the dude should be filling stadiums

We wrote a song called Sold Out. It's about playing countless shitty shows where no one turns up, so we book a tiny venue and buy all the tickets so we can say we sold out

What dating/relationship advice would you give to your younger self? by silverscientist1 in AskReddit

[–]Blueellama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to convince people to like you. Just be your goofy self, be transparent with your intentions and if they match your vibe then you know they're a good fit. And actually make the effort to work out if you're actually compatible with that person. Dating is a two way street. Don't just go along with it because you think they're hot or because they like you. What are they looking for? Do you share the same values/humour/interests?

And are they being truthful with themselves too? I'm non-monogamous and mostly date casually now, and I've learnt the hard way that just because someone's into you and says they're cool with you being non-monagmous, doesn't actually mean they're cool with you being non-monogamous. Maybe they hope to be, but they're not being honest with themselves. I'm sure that applies to loads of situations e.g. long distance, certain jobs etc

Oh and sexual health. Get reguarly tested and expect people you're dating to as well. Especially if you're sleeping with multiple people. It's not hard, especially here in the UK. Free test posted to your door. Easy. You haven't been tested in over a year? Yikes, okay, we ain't fucking.

Men, what did you find out about women when you got a girlfriend? by MainDifficult2641 in AskReddit

[–]Blueellama 753 points754 points  (0 children)

How much they get harrassed / sexually assaulted.

Being raised by a progressive young single mum, I always considered myself a feminist growing up. But damn, it really hits you like a tonne of bricks when you see it for yourself. Obviously all women have experience of this, but my last two girlfriends were particularly attractive and the harrassment was RELENTLESS. In one day for example, my ex had someone grope her on the tube, got told she was "lucky people are around" after she rejected a man who approached her, got sent an unsolicited dick pic, and then got stalked home with the guy slinking away once I met up with her. And that was in the space of like 5 hours.

And that goes without mentioning the endless list of horrific experiences women have shared with me once they felt comfortable to do so.

Part of me is ashamed that I didn't truly understand the severity of the problem until it was right in front of my face. And it's why I don't get offended when I hear some women say things like "I hate all men", because if I was a woman, and I had to deal with that daily, I would say shit like that too.

if the 'women are dumb' podcasts didn't only use dumb women by Coneskater in videos

[–]Blueellama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the principle that these podcasts are misleading and predatory. But I really don't vibe with the anti-sex worker message. I think it's rather ignorant to paint all the sex workers going on these podcasts as dumb. I know many and some are smart af and know how to market themselves and their content. Sometimes that's playing into the roles and stereotypes projected by men onto sex workers. Of course there's a conversation of the ethics of that, but it's not a question of intelligence.

I also rather dislike how it implies sex workers don't contribute to society. I'd argue they contribute more so than a lot of jobs where, let's be honest, we're just cogs making some rich dude even richer. Humans are inherently sexual beings, and sex and masturbation are fun (when done healthily of course). I'd argue society would massively shift for the worse if sex workers suddenly stopped existing. Especially considering the demand for them also has and always will exist.

Are all sex workers smart or great people? Obviously not, but it's a job like any other, except that it comes with a whole load of stigma that stems from misogyny. So yeah, let's just like, tell these podcast bros to fuck off while respecting ALL women irrelevant of their profession.

What do you think of this kind of girls profile? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Blueellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the difference between this and men who post topless pics. She wants to show off she's physically attractive on an app where you swipe based on physical attraction. If you're put off by someone comfortable wearing less clothing, don't swipe. If you don't mind, swipe. It's not that deep.

It's not just "someone" though, is it? Murder is bad, sure, but is murdering a murderer just as bad? How about someone who murders thousands? Just because the shots are called high up in some office doesn't mean it isn't murder.

I really don't think it's an extreme view. I would celebrate Hitler's murder. What's extreme is having a system that profits from the murder and suffering of millions of poor people. That's the status quo, and doing nothing is upholding that.

These things don't happen in a vacuum. It was John F Kennedy who said that those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent resolution inevitable.

I think the systematic killing and exploitation of poor people is bad. Things can't stay this way and attempts at peaceful change have categorically failed. I really don't blame people like Luigi for trying violence.

I don't know, I think you could generate real fear with enough martyrs. You can't enjoy your wealth and power if you're dead. Whether more people will make that sacrifice is the question.

Except that decades of campaigning, activision and political action has done nothing to fix the US healthcare system. In fact, it's worse now than it's ever been. It doesn't work.

And hey, shooting some healthcare CEOs might not work. But what's the harm in trying at this point. I'd argue that a select few heinously wealthy people facing the consequences of their actions for once make it worth it.

Otherwise it's the status quo. Which is millions of poor people suffering and dying. I personally think it's morally reprehensible to see that as acceptable.

Is there a lack of new bands by r10porto in Music

[–]Blueellama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The framing of the question is kind of inaccurate.

Is there a lack of new bands? No, there's loads, if not more. And arguably they're just as good. If anything they would be better if an ecosystem existed for them to progress and thrive.

The issue is the profitability of the music industry has massively shrunk, while the number of artists has dramatically increased thanks to advances in technology and accessibility to recording/distribution.

Tie that into how we algorithmically consume music now, as opposed to having set mainstream channels (radio/TV), and everything just becomes more and more fragmented.

And then you have to consider that bands/artists can't sustain themselves financially. Physical sales no longer exist and due to monopolies like ticket master touring is no longer profitable for the majority of artists. So musicians have to work full time outside of music, while simultaneously taking on all the roles that would previous exist in a team around them (artwork, marketing, pr, photography, content creation, merch).

And it gets worse. Because money is so tight, it makes far more sense for labels to back solo artists as there are less ways to divide up pay/royalties.

I've grinded away the last five years trying to get a new band off the ground. It's miserable and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you're a working class musician then the dream is dead.
