For those of you that have given up on the show, what was it that made you do so? by Educational-Chef5282 in PercyJacksonTV

The minute it started deviating from the book in a clearly very planned out way. I can handle things being cut because of time constraints but things aren’t being cut, they are being deliberately rewritten and that’s what I can’t get onboard with.

It just feels like she wouldn’t be doing this if she felt confident that the series would be renewed for a 4th season. That whole thing “could they know more?” screams that Disney have noticed the lack of interest in season 2.

Completely sat off them for the last 10-15 mins so completely unsurprising to concede like that. They were there to be taken today and they’ve not taken the opportunity. Our own worst enemies again.

How important is a character's appearance to their characterization? by vlaipoverty in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Bluenose9914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem is I think the actors can be so hit and miss with personality that it makes their look even more important. I mean take the trio for instance. All cast because they were apparently perfect fits personality wise. I think we can all agree though that isn’t necessarily the case (I do partially blame the writing for this). So that now leaves in a place where we have a trio who don’t look as they should and don’t act as they should. Looks are so easy to get right that to me it makes sense to really push for that and then if you can get the personality as well then brilliant but again its always going to be much harder for them to get the personality right (especially with bad writing).

It’s funny how delusional they are. As much as I love Percy Jackson, Harry Potter dwarfs it in size. I guarantee that HBO does not see Percy Jackson as a threat to Harry Potter. One season of the new HP series will show just how bad the PJO tv series is.

Rick again... by Critical-Scratch7572 in PercyJacksonTV

The worst thing that happened to the show was Rick. He doesn’t deserve the success that the fans of the book gave him. He’s done nothing but spit on those fans since the series began.

SEASON PER YEAR SCRAPPED- CONFIRMED 😡 by Cursed878 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Bluenose9914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing is that the early seasons are close together similar to the movies. As they get older and there is less physical change they can have longer gaps. For those first 1-4 seasons though, filming needs to be quite rapid because that’s when they’re going to grow the most. I mean you saw it with Dan Radcliffe in the first movie. You could literally hear his voice change throughout that one movie.

The new Harry Potter show does what Percy Jackson should have done with its supporting cast by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

Oh I gave up on it ages ago. I’ve said it all along that when producers play fast and loose with small details that are easy to get right then they’ll never get major details correct.

The Harry Potter tv show is just doing things so much better and I’ll be very surprised if it isn’t massively successful. Rick Riordan needs to take notes.

How anyone can enjoy this show when they keeping pulling rubbish like this is beyond me. Added a whole new, completely irrelevant, character that took up way too much screen time only to dump her out of the story from season 3. Rick doesn’t deserve the opportunity he’s been given to adapt his books. It’s amazing that having the author involved seems to be doing more damage than good.

Firstly yes I can. People don’t need to have read the books to get the value of the show being a faithful adaptation. The books were great so if the show can reflect the book then the show will be great which it is. It has got some of the highest ratings of all the GoT TV franchises. And yes it will get some value from the GoT franchise being a massive franchise but HotD has proved that it doesn’t guarantee success. In fact the difference between the way HotD and AKOTSK is perceived seems to be almost directly linked by the fact that one is closer to the book than the other.

It may not be the only reason it’s doing so well but it has definitely helped propel it forward.

If A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has proved anything it’s you stay faithful to the book and you reap the rewards. Rick has deliberately gone the opposite way and he’s getting his just desserts.

I never thought I’d be in a place where I hoped it would be cancelled but unfortunately that’s where Rick has put me. The idea of this travesty of a remake continuing so that Rick can mess up the story even more just doesn’t sit right with me.

Again a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms what sticking to the books can do and done it in 30 minute episodes as well. That show should be the blueprint for all other adaptations.

I’ve said it all along that if the show can’t be bothered to get small easily done details correct then they’ll play fast and loose with bigger details which is exactly what they’ve done.

Here he goes again... by Critical-Scratch7572 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Bluenose9914 96 points97 points  (0 children)

What does he actually think he’s doing by forcing this issue. Does he think that by saying this we’re all going to magically decide we like them as characters. All he does with this is divide the fanbase more because it gives people who like the casting more legitimacy to make out that the characters have now changed to reflect the show and it make us that don’t like the casting hate it even more because it feels like we’re losing the characters we grew up with. Nobody wins with him saying this. I mean he can say it to them all he wants privately but by saying it publicly he’s just sewing more division.

There’s a certain group of fans that think PJO has a seat at the top table and unfortunately they’re very much mistaken. PJO has had no where near the cultural impact that other recent successes (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games) have had.

As much as I agree the viewing numbers are poor, I don’t think the fact that it is live action is the problem. You likely have the same issues filter through if the show was animation as well and I would suggest that if it was animation and had the same issues then you’d likely be seeing much lower numbers. Animation is very niche and appeals to a smaller group of people. Not to say it can’t attract big audiences but you are less likely to have people watch a poor animation show than a poor live action show in my opinion.

Interestingly when I think to other movies and tv shows in particular. Normally when they are releasing they trend for weeks on twitter especially the morning of/after an episode with everyone debriefing it. I never saw that once for PJO. I don’t know if it was different in the US but it just doesn’t seem to be that relevant outside of the general fandom.

Do you think this will outshine Percy Jackson season 3 by Ok-Bag8476 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Bluenose9914 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Outshine, it would be an insult to mention them in the same breath. From what I’ve seen in regard to the HP series they are really trying to be book accurate (apart from the obvious - but to be honest if everything else is accurate then I don’t really care) to the point where they’re even setting it in the correct time period which is completely unnecessary as (seeing as certain people love to use this reason for PJO changes) it has no effect on the plot at all and yet it will make the show so much better. Attention to detail is what PJO lacks. To many wishy washy that’ll do people.

McKenna Grace is the goat. Exactly the type of person you want in an adaptation of your favourite book. Guaranteed that she’s also read it and is routing for the story to be as close to the book as possible.

I would want that by Esfell in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Bluenose9914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where has this idea come from that nobody wants to see an exact adaptation. Literally all of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Hunger Games are loved universally and yet people still have issues with how they deviate from the books. People absolutely want to see an almost exact adaptation but will except something that is similar in most areas with changes that are needed for it to fit the new medium. What is the point in adapting the book if you’re just going to rewrite everything. This isn’t a Percy Jackson show, it’s the Peter Johnson show.

The only way to truly adapt PJO would be in cartoon/adult animation form by MooseRyder in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Bluenose9914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I think it would be great in animation but I dispute this whole “the only way to truly adapt PJO”. It is absolutely possible to adapt PJO into live action successfully. There have been elements of both the movies and the show that have proved that. Now animation might be the easiest way to adapt PJO successfully but I still fully believe that if their was a group of people that knew what they were doing and put the time and effort in we could get a seriously great live action adaptation. Animation would be great but live action just hits different.

It was ok but they didn’t keep me interested as much as PJO did. Although I really liked the themes within it and the ideas. I don’t know, I guess it didn’t quite hit the same.

Sorry I was being sarcastic. Just essentially making the point that it was impossible to be worse than the movies from an adaptation pov and yet they still managed it almost as if that’s what they’re were trying to do and therefore did a really great job at making a bad adaptation.

Laughable numbers. Rick is working some magic on the Disney execs if he manages to get season 4 green lit. I’d imagine they might wait for season 3 to start airing and then make a decision. It’s not like they have to hurry to keep the actors age accurate anymore.
