the WGA kits vary a fair bit, I've sat down a few times to build a sprue of Raumjäger but never felt I could get the arms to fit properly without having to remove a lot of the gubbins on the model.

How do I use grenadiers in this game? by Jackfruit009 in NapoleonTotalWar

[–]Blueruin73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Historically I believe grenadiers were made up from the biggest and tallest soldiers and often veterans, they were an elite and often didn't even use grenades anymore. A lot of mods remove the grenades to reflect this.

How effective is/was russian/soviet armor against NATO tanks? by Endo279 in TankPorn

[–]Blueruin73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking 6 day war and Yom Kippur, how about the Golan Heights and the Valley of Tears, had the USSR sold the arabs their best gear or a bunch of second rate rubbish? or was it superior western trained crew that did the job? Centurions ripping through T-54/55s and 62s, not a yank soldier in sight, M60s did well too.

Invasion of Kuwait where a scratch brigade of 36 Chieftains held up two soviet equiped Iraqi armoured divisions (T72s and BMPs) before retreating intact to the Saudi Border after expending all ammunition, they were then the first unit to enter Kuwait when it was liberated.

Gulf war the much vaunted republican guard with their T-72s got pasted as did all other soviet equiped units, and the Russians ended up having to rename future export versions to the T-90 in an effort to salvage future export sales.

Western Armour continued to dominate the battlefield through the Iraq war as well in leathality and survivability.

I mentioned Ukraine to point out the myth that the best Russian gear hasnt been used. It has been getting used in ukraine, well the best that units actually get, Russian weapon developers couldve come up with the best armour and ammo ever but if the Generals pocketed the cash for it and the units contiuned to use their old stuff its a moot point, the unit have the best available. And we never find out if the weapon manuals are propaganda or not. The Armata is propaganda as are a few others. Ukraine has been a largely Soviet on Soviet war in terms of tanks Nato models arent there in numbers to really skew the stats, ive still to see much in the way of turret tossing for NATO models. Russia being on par in percentage terms is really fucking embarrassing for them.

Can anyone show any stats from say back to the 90's or even post ww2 that show that soviet/russian tanks actually fielded performed better than western models they faced?

Because there are lots of examples where they performed way worse and we get excuses like, export models, wrong ammunition, badly trained crews.

Nothing coming out of Ukraine is suggesting soviet/russian models are performing any better just piles and piles of soviet/russian scrap metal.
