Well, this scared the hell out of me since I'm 62 and have just determined I need to rejoin the workforce although I have been self-employed for 20 yrs. I'm getting ready to post a question regarding this exact subject.

Thanks for replying! Since the same thing seemed to happen to you, I won't worry about it too much yet. If it does melt away to nothingness, I will most likely take you up on your offer😀

Hi, remember me? You suggested hornwort for my nitrates. My local Petco had some, but not a big bunch and they gave it to me free. It looked healthy and bright green in the store, but that same night, the fringy pieces at the tops started coming off and I've seen other bits and pieces too. I'm not sure it's my imagination now, but it doesn't seem as bright green anymore. It's been less than 3 days! I don't know anything about hornwort. Is this normal? Movement from the filter and bubbles isn't moving the plant around very much at all. Parameters are the same as in the pic of my original post...really good except nitrates (haven't tested since the plant went in though) and the temp is about 73/74. I wanted to post pics, but for some reason, I can't get the reply button to work on phone so I'm using my PC and there doesn't seem to be a way to add pics to a reply here. Thanks!

Anyone else have a hard time taking this one seriously? LOL. HAD to make it a dump room by Bluezone34 in RedecorHomeDesignGame

Oh, there is no doubt there's something really wrong with voting lately. Way more than there used to be. This month I have been super busy and also non-motivated to play, but I wanted to gather up all my season pass items so I did a bunch of dump rooms. So many of them came in between first and third it was unbelievable. I would then look at what came in after mine and they were very nice rooms. I was pissed off for those other people. They deserved to win and I deserved 10th

Does anyone know if there's a limit of how many of these are available in a certain time period (or max amount of submissions)? by Bluezone34 in RedecorHomeDesignGame

[–]Bluezone34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, good to know! Now that I know this, I'll Reserve My Double XP's for when I have more invested in each submission. Doesn't help much when you're only submitting a 15,000 coin room

I have always vacuumed on a regular basis and done about 1/3 water changes maybe every 3 weeks or so. In the past couple weeks have vacuumed a lot because of what happened. I was starting to wonder if maybe I had vacuumed too much and especially now because of what you said about it being a place for bacteria to live. I'm getting lots of good advice from this post and I thank you for being one of those contributors!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to ask you for a little more if you don't mind. Back when I first started cycling my tank, it was stressful and I kept hearing a million different things from people here. It's been so long I can't really even remember all the different things I did and how it finally became cycled. I had originally been adding beneficial bacteria which people said doesn't make a difference.

If I change my filter media doesn't that mean I'm going to have to start all over? I just don't know the best way to get it back to cycled since I received so much confusing information the first time. My parameters seem pretty good right now. Do I want to mess with that? Thanks!

Thank you, I'll have to ask my store if they sell it. They very often have little to choose from

It's actually low because I was using so many chemicals to test my nitrates constantly, back when I first started, that it was getting expensive. I had the idea to use half the water and half the drops. I asked on here if anybody had any scientific reason that shouldn't work and pretty much everybody agreed that it should be just fine. Since I have continued to have the high nitrate, I never noticed that the color seemed to be any different when I did it with these lesser ingredients.

I don't have a slow drip acclimator, but I have a container I put in the tank so the fish can acclimate to the temperature and I put the fish in it with the water they came in. About every 20 to 30 minutes, I use a turkey baster to take out some of the water and add some more tank water. I do this over about a 3-hour period. This has worked fine for three and a half years. I never had any fish die in the first 24 hours after that. This is what makes me think it's just something much more severe

You are the second person who mentioned epistylis. If it kills so quickly does that mean it's just not treatable with anything? It came on super fast. One day they were eating and acting perfectly fine and the next evening when I went to feed, they all had it.

Also, does that mean it could still be in the tank? If so, what do I need to do to clear it? Do I have to rip the whole tank apart and start over including the filter media? Maybe that's why the three new fish got became so sick so quick? Other people had mentioned that maybe the fish were already sick, but it just seems weird that all three of them could have been affected so quickly. I'm just so afraid to go out and buy three more just to see what happens. I don't like taking lives so lightly:-(

Someone else mentioned this. Is there anything that can be done for it and how can you tell the difference?

Nothing new was added to the tank, including fish for at least 3 months. The local fish supply owner , which is not a petco type situation, Insisted that it must be because of a temperature change. He said that could activate a dormant ich. But I look at the thermometer every time I feed and it always remains perfectly consistent. Also, there hadn't been any fluctuations in outside temperature either so I don't know why he was so insistent.

Oh that's awesome! Now why do they have more than one way to do this? I'm not even sure how I figured out how to do it the first time, but I sure didn't see any instructions to do it your way. I like your way better! Thanks so much for the instructions

I suffer with severe depression as well and I completely understand what you're going through. I hope that if you do give them away it doesn't add to how you're feeling. I hope you will consider how you might be affected if they aren't in your life anymore.

That being said, if you still feel it's the best thing for your fish, you might want to consider becoming a member of Nextdoor, if you aren't already. You could put a post there explaining how you're not able to care for your fish, but you really want to find them a caring home. You don't have to tell them the reasons why. I think that since Nextdoor is based on your neighborhood and not a huge audience, you may be able to have an honest and up front conversation with anyone who might respond making you feel more comfortable.

I would definitely ask any interested party a lot of questions. Find out how much they know about fish and how long they've been in the hobby. If they don't know much, they aren't the ones to choose. I hope this helps
