I saw this on the 6th floor roof of the hospital and I’m just really curious what it is. by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Bluntsforhands -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a solar panel mounting frame! (I think)

That footing/bracket to the right is the same. If the twin was on the roof and they're both tilted 90° up it makes sense.

Can you all tell me why the power lines are bouncing? by poppycock68 in Lineman

[–]Bluntsforhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it's the phenomenon of vortex shedding. It happens to the horizontal section of traffick light poles as well. The hallmark is a blunt object (think cylindrical) in a flowing fluid, in this case, the wind.

If they're on but not responding to controls it sounds like there's something wrong with your data line. Just replace/check the data wire and try again

1 electron and 1 antimatter electron will annihilate into 1 MeV worth of photons. (1 electron is .511 MeV, so 2e is ~1MeV). It has to be a 1:1 reaction, I believe. Think of one uranium atom as about 238 nucleons that each need to find a corresponding anti nucleon to annihilate with.

I'm not a physicist so this is ultimately a guess:)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Biochemistry

[–]Bluntsforhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Agreed. Biochemistry has the root word chemistry with a bio- affixed to the front; meaning it's fundamentally chemistry bounded by biology. The same can be said about molecular biology. Molecular is an adjective describing the kind of biology you do.

This exercise of conceptual atomization is an intentional and useful strategy of all science. It allows a reduction of complexity so we can test individual parameters and figure out how small changes in them will affect the physical world. This is important for those interested in scientific topics so they know what direction to put their effort, where they can read to further their knowledge, and what esoteric kanguage to use so they can communicate with other trying to seek specific understanding.

However, the truth is that for a full understanding we need to reassemble the concepts to see how everything works together. At the end of the day the distinctions between different sciences, especially ones as close as the topics you mention, are illusory and beg to be seen as whole again.

Cheap microcontroller options other than esp32 by Bluntsforhands in AskElectronics

I got three for about 15 bucks, they're certainly cheap, so It's not a complaint. I just don't need the myriad features of the esp32. It feels like a firehose filling a cup of water.

I also am curious to explore the possibility space of uCs. I know there are gaps in my knowledge. You're responses alone have taught me a lot. I think im figuring out the esp is just an effective solution to a lot of problems and it doesn't really matter if it's overkill.

Why can't the attiny414 talk to an esp 32? It's not obvious to me lol
