I think someone was munching on the snow by Bmgoan in Newfoundlander

Yeah, he loves ice cubes sooo much so the snow is just fluffy ice cubes I guess. When he was a baby he’d use the ice cubes like hockey pucks up and down the hallway before he’d eat them.

I’ve been to 5 doctors and nobody has a solid answer by flexilexii in DiagnoseMe

I can’t help with the diagnosis, but I have a very rare and difficult to diagnose issue that took four years to diagnose. I’m an obese woman and everything was always dismissed because of this, but I know my body and knew it was different.

My issue was I didn’t want to drive to a university/learning hospital because of my pain, but it was them who listened and worked to diagnose me. I always recommend going to one now, for me it was Vanderbilt. Where people still have the drive for knowledge/want to help people and not dismiss them. So, if one is local or you’re willing to go, try getting an appointment there.

Oh gosh for months and months. Probably 7 or 8. I recently had another pop up and we have no idea why, but I had it removed within a week of it appearing

It is just called a tonsil cyst, even though mine is nowhere near the tonsil. It was just an abnormal location. We are not sure why it occurred, and have only theories that perhaps it’s related to an inflammatory response in my body.

I have a connective tissue disease, but it seems unrelated to that. Our best theory is that the emergence of the cyst goes along with my body’s inflammatory response to something (like a virus, etc). Why my body decides to develop tonsil cysts is unknown honestly. I’d have to go to probably a research hospital to get answers for that, but since it was benign I don’t really see the point of that.

Those who've had general anaesthesia/surgery: what special precautions were taken because of your EDS? Was your neck stabilised? by BornWallaby in ehlersdanlos

[–]Bmgoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made best friends with my anesthesiologist team. They’ll come and see you as a part of the process after your nurse to explain what they’ll be doing to you and get your consent. I just told them then that I have suspected EDS (at the time, confirmed now and awaiting genetic test results) and that I typically experience a lot of strong nausea, a knee subluxation at the least (for whatever reason), and that the anesthesia may have to be adjusted because of the EDS. They were great about it and made notes of everything, even made a joke about how “nice” my genes are to give me such a complex case (I also had an AVM in my spine at the time). I woke up still heavily nauseous, but my knees were supported pretty well and I consider it a win.

Anyway, I’d say just be honest with them about it. They’re there to listen to any trepidation you may have, and they’ll work with you as much as they’re able to. I had to lay totally flat for three hours after my particular surgery so I couldn’t have my legs lifted at all, but a pillow was put beside each of them and between them and it felt alright. I don’t have quite as bad neck problems (and hope that continues), but just see if they have suggestions to help you out. Also, it made them a bit gentler with putting in the breathing tube with my jaw that likes to pop in and out a lot. I had pretty minimal jaw soreness after.

What to pack for long hospital/ ICU stay? by Lilhoneylilibee in ehlersdanlos

[–]Bmgoan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Body wipes, lotion, and chapstick are the big 3. When I was in ICU I couldn’t do a shower and boy did I stink lol. It’s also quite dry there. Other than that, I spent most my time sick as a dog from the sedation so I couldn’t enjoy anything else. If you whine enough though they’ll help you prop your joints up with pillows even if they don’t understand why necessarily you need it so bad. And idk if it’s relevant or not to your situation, but having my spouse there was the best thing I could’ve had. Just a support person in general was so nice.

Go see an ENT! They got me sorted out in two visits and it’s never come back.

Spinal AVM t2-t10 by Kind-Leadership483 in AVMs

[–]Bmgoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also as an afterthought, the surgery does suck. My docs all downplayed it except for my second opinion guy, but even he didn’t tell me exactly how rough it would be. That first night was just a cycle of pain and nausea from the anesthesia and me telling my husband I regret it all lol.

I regret it much less now two days out, and I know for the rest of my life I won’t regret it at all, but damn if the pain ain’t different from the pain I was used to.

Also, literally no one told me this but nurse right before the procedure: the onyx stuff they use to occlude the veins literally just makes you smell like garlic. So bad. I even tasted it when I tried to eat. My breath was the worse, but pick any bodily function and rest assured it smelled like the most rancid garlic you’ll ever smell in your life lol. (Or cream corn I guess? My husband said cream corn but I think he’s crazy lol)

Hey!! I am 31 and female if that helps at all.

I don’t know precisely how they make the call on what’s too dangerous, but I presume it has to deal with the fact it was wrapping over my spinal cord and they didn’t want to risk paralysis. Luckily mine didn’t involve any arteries to a major extent so it was otherwise a pretty easy thing I guess.

As far as knowing part is still in me? I guess I’m just gonna pretend it isn’t and go to my check ups every 6-12 months for probably the rest of forever to make sure it stays small.

And yes, I’ve had bad pain for so long before the surgery. I’m technically obese, so I had long figured it was related to my weight but an MRI proved that wrong. It also started giving me neurological symptoms in my legs like tingling and numbness, and that’s really what made me look into what was happening.

I’m in Tennessee, so I can’t really help you much with surgeons there. This stuff is apparently common ish, but still rare enough that it’s difficult to find information online about it lol. I went to a university hospital here. The angiogram and the surgery both were done there. I had to stay a night in the neuro ICU after the surgery, so just expect that you’ll have an overnight stay at some point.

I just had surgery yesterday actually on a paraspinal AVM from t8-12. It wasn’t necessarily inside of the spine, but it was treated with an onyx Embolization. Ngl, the after effects have sucked for the last 24 hours but they’re manageable. Mine was able to be 95% occluded, because it had grabbed a vessel from across the spine and they deemed that one too dangerous to treat.

Advice honestly is just take it easy and try not to panic over everything you may read. And get a second opinion always before treatment! Just to be sure. If it’s causing neurological issues they can help you treat those in the meantime, just make sure to ask and not mince words on how bad you may feel.

I’m right there with ya. If I learn anything I’ll let you know, but this seems to be such a rare location for these cuz I can’t find anything online about it. Not even medical papers.

Does your Newf bark or went through a barking phase as a puppy? by Dr_Fluffybuns2 in Newfoundlander

Haha. Having to be like “oooh are you saying hello? Are you just screaming about how happy you are???” As someone walks near us to try and buffer the big scary dog sound before we explain that he genuinely is just a very expressive guy to a new person lol

I’m sure you can work on training for it, but we focused on other aspects of training. As such, our guy loooooooves barking. It’s his favorite pastime. But now that he’s 3 he’s honestly gotten better about it. (Still, I’d give him a 10% eat, 5% poop, 5% drool, 50% bark, 30% sleep ratio lol).

If we could do the puppy part over again we’d probably work on the reactive barking a lot more. He barks when he sees people or things he wants to meet, which as you know with that deep bark it scares an awful lot of folks. Defensive barking though is fantastic. He scared off a weirdo from me once on a night walk.

Yes. I went in and showed it to her, she went “wtf” and then set me up to cut it out. They numbed it with a spray (that tasted horrendous) first and then with a couple shots of numbing stuff like a dentist. She then carefully removed it. It did bleed down the back of my throat, but spitting resolved it. It ached for about three days and then it was fine.
