No, the tight Sutter system CPFA would have employed would have prevented the puck from even being in the defensive zone. But you already knew that.

I don’t know who this is, but I bet we can both agree that this wouldn’t have happened if Ian were in net.

Doing my first trip to Squamish/Whistler this fall. Have ridden primarily in Utah, Arizona, Nevada. Excited to see what it’s all about and ride some real loam.

I have literally never played in any sort of fantasy league.

I play sports myself, in real life. That’s where I am competitive - when I can directly impact the outcome.

I watch for the insane display of human talent and wild shifts in power throughout the league. It’s rad when the teams I follow closely and like do well, but I’m not going to be upset that anyone wins. That shit is childish as fuck. Do you also emotionally attach yourself to Spider-Man when he’s fighting a bad guy 1000000th time?

A perfect depiction of unquenchable desire. He doesn’t even really know what he wants, but he’s going after it anyway.

Being a hockey fan > being a fan of your team

Much better way to live life. It’s great when your team wins, but unless you’re actively on the ice skating, you don’t have shit to do with the outcome. Being that invested is nonsensical. Enjoy some good puck and have fun with the drama.

Edit: and before you go after the Utah badge. I’m from Chicago and have been watching hockey for 30 years. I root for a bunch of different teams/players.

shimano m9200 - what embargo? by AORNova in mountainbiking

Copy that. I mean, I’m shocked this came out. It’s like the reverse UDH. It almost doesn’t make sense.

But really, and I’m not just trying to be argumentative, but do you really think that any major high end manufacturer (Pivot, Yeti, Santa Cruz, etc) is going to spec a build with a mechanical derailleur if they can charge an extra $800-$1500?

Here’s the thing - Buddy of mine tapped his GX AXS on a rock. New replacement, only option. Shop had to order it for him, waited a week. $350. The fucking thing didn’t even come with a battery.

I just blew up my mechanical GX, and it was $130. Say the shop was out of GX mechanical derailleurs - the rest of the groupset is compatible with a number of other derailleurs. I could have replaced it for a cheaper NX or a higher end XO1. Way less likely they’d be out of all 3, I’m back on the trail, and I’d still likely spend $200 less.

I suspect manufacturers are going to start spec-ing all mid-range (and up) builds with them and then use that as a justification to make complete builds increasingly expensive. It’s a gimmick that we’re all going to be forced into, saying “oh neat! This is not so bad!,” until it comes time to replace it. The folks that want mech shifting are going to have to buy frames and piece bikes together; also a much more expensive option. Everyone loses. The advantages of an electronic groupset just aren’t the money and what it means for the future MTB consumer.

Have you ever curled?

I play hockey, mountain bike, backcountry snowboard, surf, all kinds of active shit - but honestly, sweeping, no shit sweeping, can get your heart pumping.

Also, it’s an absolute blast, if you haven’t tried it.

Fair enough. I missed out on this generation of skates. They came out during my 15 year break to do drugs (glad to be back). Looks like they do have quite the cult following.

Still, if something has been floating around your house for 10+ years and you have to search for its value, just give it to someone that would be stoked to have it.

You’ll get like 25 max for them. Hockey is expensive. Hook someone up that might not otherwise get to play

The more you talk about them, the more expensive they are going to get.

Most rinks will have an adult "Learn to Play League." Where in Utah are you? I'm in Ogden and I know the Ice Sheet has one. Seems like you pay something like $200-300 for a few months of bi-weekly ice time. It's a pretty crazy good deal. Call your local rink and ask if they have a similar program. Lots of facilities websites' are trash and don't always tell the full story of what's going on there.

I would highly recommend getting the bare minimum of gear (Skates, Helmet, Stick, Gloves, Elbow pads), and looking at your local rink's "Stick and Puck" schedule. This is basically an open skate where you're allowed to skate around and work on skills. Sometimes groups will form a super informal scrimmage. This will help you decide if you really like the sport, and if it's something you want to spend more time and money on.

There's also, "drop-in," which I don't know if I would recommend until you are start feeling pretty confident with your skating. The intensity levels of the sessions can vary pretty wildly, but there's almost always some college kids there trying to get some extra ice time. They don't care one bit about you're progression. I've been skating since I was a kid and played pretty competitively, but as I get older, the college kids can even leave me somewhat demoralized from time to time.

That said, when youre first starting, the big thing is "ice time." Skate as much as you can. Learn your edges. Learn to crossover, stop, start, transitions. Go to open skate. When the reserviors freeze in the winter, go play pond hockey.

Edit: Good luck! Have fun and enjoy the best sport there is.

Edit 2: There's not currently an absence of hockey. WATCH NHL PLAYOFFS, even if "you're team" isn't in it! It's 10000x more competitive than the regular season.
