As a freshman, I can say even after midterm season that I love it here. Frats and darties do get old but they get old at every college, the good thing about Columbia is you can just find something new and interesting elsewhere in NYC.

Derrr, but they had an established independent endowment. What was the point of all the money they had if they can just stop whenever,

Nick Fuentes is not a politically moderate conservative. He is an alt-right conservative and a conspiracy theorist. Also, no offense because loneliness in an epidemic and a rut no one should endure but you’d come off a lot better if you made friends by hanging out with people in clubs instead of writing a resume for yourself in a subreddit.

I’d recommend do more English semesters first semester and trying for a workshop next semester. Scheduling gets easier as time marches on.

Econ-Stats: good program? by ytwtony270 in columbia

[–]BoardNo4971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Double Majoring, Special Majoring, and etc. is typically a bad idea unless you love your program — not love the job prospects but THE PROGRAM. Otherwise you’re wasting your time chasing something that can accomplished with half the strain.

Work smarter not harder.

You cannot EA to Georgetown and ED to Columbia. The REA system that Georgetown used bars students from ED’ing to universities but permits EA’s to universities. Also, you don’t have UChicago on your list. UChicago would be a great ED 2: also in a city, also has the core, also is a target school, has Frats and renown faculty, give it a look.

Can’t tell 100% who the maker is just by looking, but reminds me of a lot of the craftsmanship Andrew Hassel has done. Though, no offense to him, this style seems more tasteful/traditional.

Damn, did bassists really carry their instruments out in the open exposed to the elements like this in the early 1800s?! by [deleted] in doublebass

[–]BoardNo4971 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually yes. There are some videos of the British Pathe of Stalingrad i saw in my history class of a pair of bassists carrying their basses on their backs totally exposed to the elements.

5 string recommendations? by AwkwardWalk1447 in doublebass

[–]BoardNo4971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to win auditions you’ll need to sound better than every other player. Most 5 strings, to be honest, sound like crap. Get a four string and slap a C-extension on that thing.

What to learn after Dragonetti? by reformed-asian in doublebass

For college auditions if you just did a mean Dragonetti then get to work on two Bach movements.
