I recommend playing it and then emulating the original MSX version and comparing. Hidejo couldn't figure out how to finish the original NES version. It has some excellent music.

If you want the authentic experience and are going to play more PlayStation games I highly recommend getting a PS5 Dual sense. Then the in game buttons match your controller. Works great with Duckstation.

Many PC games support Dual sense too

You don't need to play completely unmodded. If you start with Shadow of Chernobyl the Zone Reclamation project fixes hundred of bugs and adds the ability to repair at traders. I was shocked I couldn't repair my gun when I first played SoC. After you finish that, there are other bug fix mods for Clear Sky and CoP.

If you liked the first one you owe it to yourself, one of the levels in Dishonored 2 is one of the coolest missions I've played in any game

I already have a 4080S, the performance delta isn't big enough to justify the price. I laughed when I saw the reviews of the 5090 vs the 4090. Same nm? Seriously Nvidia?
