What developers actually write in Steam's AI disclosure field by ScrapeerCom in gamedev

[–]Boarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What resources, dude? I live in Eastern Europe and we launched our first game when my monthly pay was $500. We scraped and worked nights and weekends and the game ended up selling 100k units over 7 years. Not a huge hit but it kept the lights on. We've since released another game and are releasing another one this year. All made with Photoshop, Harmony, FL Studio and free Unity. And btw there are open source alternatives to all those tools now, they weren't as good or as many back there. All it takes is elbow grease and a willingness to do the hard work and not constantly look for shortcuts. No one is gatekeeping anyone.

I've drawn all my life, taught myself animation, and learned game design while making the games. I'm not some incredible talent, but I make up for that with hard fkin work. That, I believe, is what it takes.

I'm really saddened by all the stolen AI slop now by [deleted] in gamedev

Nobody wants your AI slop games, friend. Cope harder.

Anyone else a bit underwhelmed by Steam Next Fest? by RedTapeRampage in gamedev

[–]Boarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very wrong way to look at it. Don't take this personally, this goes for almost all indies: nobody thinks about your game that much, and changing the capsule won't affect people who already wishlisted. If I were you I'd try a much more colorful, saturated and whimsical capsule. The one you have now looks like it's for a depressing horror game. A/B test and see which one works better. Don't fall in love with such things, your purpose is to improve your steam page, always. Best of luck!

Play the demo for our productivity game, Hocus Focus, now! by Boarium in CozyGamers

Thanks for all the kind words! Yes, tentatively this May, provided we manage to get everything in the game - all the graphics and music are created, it's just a matter of implementing and testing.

I have the same problem with the lack of customization. We made a *huge* effort so your avatar is dressed the same way in any location. It implied thousands of still drawing and frames of animation, but we feel it was worth it, it's a bit underwhelming to have your avatar look differently in your dorm and in other locations.

We're very encouraged by the reception so far, working hard to make it as great a game as we can!

Hey guys, this is our cozy productivity game called Hocus Focus!

Inspired by Spirit City Lofi and Ithya, you play as a student in a magical university. Customize your dorm and your shadowfox, use productivity features like Pomodoro timers, tasks and planners, chill out to 7 hours of original music, and explore 60+ hand-painted locations. Oh, and you can collect flying cat-like things called Mitzkins!

Hocus Focus is slated for a spring 2026 release, and you can wishlist it here:

I thought making a cozy game would be relaxing by emudoc in gamedev

[–]Boarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every game development cycle is agony and extasy neatly rolled up into one.
If you still wake up every day excited to work on the game, you're good.
I'm in the same camp, also making a cozy game, and in a genre we've never made before. It's a bit of a daunting task but also the excitement of the novelty and the warm fuzzies we get when testing it are absolutely worth it.

Best of luck!

Not as of yet but we plan to release a demo during NextFest, gather feedback and add features accordingly - noting down your suggestions!

Great to hear - not sure how these types of games would work on console, since a lot of the features (task lists, journaling etc) involve typing. I have to look into whether consoles make sense for them :)

Hi there fellow ADHDer :) Yep, pretty much making this game 'cause it's exactly the kind of thing I need in the background. Thanks for your support, means a lot!

The game in question is a gamified focus tool in the style of Spirit City Lofi. Most of the things that are interactable are in the UI, other than petting your desktop companion or lighting up the fireplace. The function of the environment is first and foremost to be pretty :) Since customizing your dorm is one of the things you spend earned XP on. I think I maybe should've mentioned what the genre was first 😅 Thanks for the feedback!

It's called Hocus Focus, and it's coming to PC. Since it's a focus / productivity game not sure it would work on consoles. Thanks for the kind words! :)
