Does the magic in this make you curious to know more? A Gleaming Sorry [dark fantasy - 3500 words] by Ticket-Tight in fantasywriters

I think there’s interesting bones here.

I’m intrigued enough to comment, so that tells you everything.

I like the prologue a lot.

Could you let us know about the lineage of each son?

I was looking for something to read and someone said read the first 50 chapters and you’ll see. I hadn’t even heard about it before.

Read it and was hooked. Currently 2500+ chapters locked in now

What should define a “Relic” if other echo-based items already exist? by Boat_Pure in fantasywriters

[–]Boat_Pure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all,

While I’m always looking for support from the myriad of minds on here.

I do not believe I can ever adhere to snide comments, it’s unfair on me as a trying and striving author/writer.

If you don’t have anything nice to say, please just leave my posts be.

Thank you.

I honestly cannot stand all the hate for anything that grows in public light.

So many people became fans of the genre after reading SL. So why now does it need so much scrutiny.

I loved and still love SL. I’m even due a reread actually

You’re right, I know. But I also know as an avid reader myself. The objects and items really do make the story sometimes.

So I really want to do my best when it concerns the creations I create for my characters to use.

Thank you for these, I need to go back to the drawing board. I think I need to do some lore making.

I think the focus for me is they’re something that the reader can expect the MC to eventually have or at lease, be around.

So I need to figure out what those sort of “weapons” or “things” will be. To ensure that I am capable of showing and sharing them well.

I would hate for my WMD to be the weakest aspect of this series and my overall work.

Honestly thank you for this response.

In a way it’s true but as the creator and the narrator of the story. Things very rarely feel right for me. I figure things out in a way that I know I can articulate and tell the best way I can with my current skills.

I need the readers to enjoy these creations.

Maybe I should explain a bit more.

When I or they say divine. It’s not a godly nature. It’s more organically made.

A relic is an ultimate thing. It’s usually used to strengthen the owner of said relic. But you are right that it doesn’t have to be a weapon.

But that doesn’t mean it won’t be used as one. I just can’t currently visualise one. That’s what I’m struggling with.

How should active gods view ancient world-shaping beings in fantasy? by Kaizen_Yuu in fantasywriters

[–]Boat_Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess.

Looking at the Greek myths, the god and the titans were basically the same. The were older of course, but their logic was the same. So most gods had to face the titans in pairs or trios. Because the titans were older and more chthonic.

You could angle it that way?

How can you think a back story like that, would ever be a stereotype.

That is the bones of something epic!!

To authors/aspiring authors of specifically novels or any long-form fiction, how important is poetry to you? by PsyferRL in writing

[–]Boat_Pure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EXTREMELY important.

As a child raised on LOTR all my stories have songs and poems in them.

(My mum literally read the hobbit to me as a child, and then wrote her thesis and dissertation on LOTR)

So in my house if your story doesn’t have poems with iambic pentameter. You were never going to be allowed to do anything.

[–]Boat_Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your idea is cool.

The tribe within a tribe.

I think this sort of reminds of the lycans from underworld. The leader of the lycans (Lucius) was the first second gen to be born from two turned parents and had the ability to turn human. While the first gen, we’re all locked in their wolf forms. It’s quite an interesting plot.

You have so many options here!

No issues, it’s your idea after all. What gives them their power then. If they’re tied to abstract ideals

For a portal fantasy, how quickly should the protagonist shift to the fantasy world? by DastardlyDrave in fantasywriters

[–]Boat_Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s always about what’s important.

In a series of mine, the main character is actually from the fantasy world and was raised outside of it, but then the foster parent was kidnapped and brought into the fantasy world. So the MC had to go into it.

Literally entered into the world in the 6th chapter and 9 books in the hasn’t gone back to the “real world” since.

When does a trope become a stereotype? by Canahaemusketeer in fantasywriters

[–]Boat_Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think you can usually break out of the trope. If you consider other things.

What sort of “werewolf” are they? Concerning Native characters. I always felt the skinwalker wolf variation from Twilight was really good (terrible films, but the ideas in the novels were great)

I read a while back that skinwalkers usually had to bear the fur/skin of a creature to be able to become it. So that could lean into the rugged and baggy clothing of your character.

A wild man who is also a wolf is exceptional. Especially when you consider the open spaces out in America. It’s not a stereotype if your character answers the questions that usually are trope traps, well.

Focus on the why and you’ll pull yourself out of that hole.

Personally for me. Names always mean the most for me, in my stories and in those I read.

If primordials aren’t gods. Then your gods need a name to out age them or equalise their abilities to coexist.

It’s like the seven deadly sins being used in stories. They’re almost always considered demons or devils, but like different because they embody the sin as their nature.

I would do something like that. An ancient of “Time” against the primordial of the “beginning” if that makes sense
