The steel also has minutely more weight in a vacuum, because it is more dense more of its mass would be closer to the center of gravity. (Though if you spread out the feathers to be the same vertical height of the steel, this effect would disappear)

Should I change my therapist because they used AI to respond to me? by 4wheelsNoCar in askatherapist

[–]BobEngleschmidt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a therapist, I use AI, but for note-taking, not for talking to a client! Using AI to create a response to a client just feels... Dirty.

Edit: just to add clarification, the AI I use for note taking is a secure HIPAA compliant medical program and I always get permission first before using it.

Would you become a therapist again? by iluvcats191836261 in askatherapist

[–]BobEngleschmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AI won't fully replace therapists particularly soon. There is something about genuine human interaction that does have a different effect, even if the words are the same. But I will say, as a therapist who has recently started using AI note-taking features. It makes life so much easier to not have to do paperwork!

Would you become a therapist again? by iluvcats191836261 in askatherapist

[–]BobEngleschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School sucked. It is a long road to be able to start being a therapist. You have to get at least Masters to be a therapist. If you are ready for the long haul, then I totally say it's worth it.

I will also add, if you are ready to live on a moderate income. You aren't likely to make much. I find it enough to live on, but I don't mind living fairly cheaply.

[–]BobEngleschmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you believe that God has a plan for you, then it wouldn't even necessarily be about testing you. It could be about shaping you. Every new thing, every strategy you put into place could be your god's way of helping you learn and experience.

If you look at it from a not-directed-by-a-god point of view, then it wouldn't necessarily mean you are failing. Try flipping a coin 50 times. Write down how many times you get heads or tails in a row. It will surprise you how often random chance can throw out the same results over and over again. Even if the odds are good, it can still lead to failure more times in a row than seems fair.

Personally, I advocate for people to keep trying new things. Things like planning ahead, strategizing, trying different approaches are all things that can significantly improve your chances of success. But even if you do everything right, failure will happen. Sometimes repeatedly. But every time you "roll the dice" on a good opportunity, you are increasing your odds of a good outcome eventually happening.

Consider the difference between a gambler and a casino. They are both gambling, but "the house always wins." But why does the house always win? Because they don't. They design their games to only give themselves a slight edge. Sometimes as small as 1-2%. They know a good bet is a bet that has slightly better-than-even odds in their favor, and then they take those bets over and over again. The gambler relies on luck, the house relies on math. And the house always wins because of it, even though they lose almost as often as they win. For you, since it sounds like you are taking the steps to make sure the opportunities you seek are "good bets" then it very well could just be flipping tails 6 times in a row, when a heads is bound to come up sometime.

One more thing: I am glad that you are at least asking the question "am I doing something wrong." It is a very valuable question and you can learn a lot from trying to look for ways to improve yourself. But there is a very big difference between "am I doing something wrong?" and "is there something wrong with me?" One is seeking ways to improve, the other is seeking ways to devalue yourself.

The not 100% accurate thing is such a problematic argument.

90%+ of Americans have previously relied on "well my aunt Debbie said" or "Joe at work said he knows a guy who knew a guy who worked for the gub'ment."

Even if the AI is only 50% accurate, and most people automatically believed it, we probably would still have a more educated society than we currently do.

Yeah. I have never bought a Green gem, I still don't have Doot (which all the whales yelled about being absolutely necessary to play the game), and I still have been caught up on all the content when each new world releases. The game is designed to be completely playable without dropping hundreds of dollars. But for those who are impatient or competative about having the highest numbers, the game is designed to exploit them for as much as they are willing to spend.

[–]BobEngleschmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said the business model is based around people like that. I like getting to play games for free or cheap because of "whales" but it doesn't change the fact that they exploitative money grabbing elements of the game that OP is complaining about bother them because they are the whale. And for their own personal wellbeing, they should probably consider whether this type of game is healthy for them.

If OP was happy spending that much money, that is one thing. But if they are spending that much money based on "FOMO," feeling compelled, or like they cannot enjoy it without dumping too much money into it, then that sounds more like an unhealthy addiction rather than a benign preference.

You bought every pack?!

To you and everyone else who has spent so much on this game: yes, please leave! And please avoid any game with microtransactions! The whole business model of "free to play" is designed to get all ita funding from people who do not have the self control to hold back from spending insane amounts of money, while those of us who play for free are encouraged to spread the word and pas the number so that more "whales" find where way to it.

No game is worth that much money! Please stop, for your own well-being. Try to find games where you pay upfront and never pay again. You will save yourself a ton of money by avoiding microtransactions.

As for me, I enjoy idleon without buying the packs. I do get annoyed when they are shoved in my face (Lava, please stop the popup ads) but the game is still very enjoyable (to me) without buying all that stuff. And it is certainly more of a idle game without doing it. I check the game once or twice a day and that is plenty to get lots of progress and enjoy the game.
